caligula87
Word's can not express how stupid all of you doubting the map are, can you put your f*cking glasses on bring up the screen shots and look at them again, proceeded to smash your face into the computer monitor until you get through that thick skull of yours that this map is not only 100% massive but also extremely detailed, and i mean extremely. I can literally see you downers coming back on the 17th and saying woah this map is bigger than i thought , oh.... wait no you won't because you are a bunch of pussies and don't have the guts to apologise to the good forum users for being assholes. U mad?

Jackhepburn
The map itself is if anything 'too' big, but I think the city areas should have been more widespread imo, not even more, just spread out better
K20
all im saying is, this map checks everything i wanted: - driving fast on a long ass highway, as well as crashing spectacularly in the opposite direction [check] - drive a trailer around the map and f*ck about, as well as crashing spectacularly in the opposite direction [check] - country to do stupid things in [check] - mountains to climb, with feet and with a vehicle [check] - animals to hit at high speed, and to shoot at. [check] plus much more, but i can't be bothered to name. so do the people who complain want a GTA IV but different city shape? or this? Noetski
Just played gta IV and i flew from the airport (most right part of the map) to the most left part of the map and it took me about 1:50 with a sightseeing helo. Rotate the map of gta 4 90degrees and lay it over the map of gta 5 like 3 times to get the same size(roughly). It would still take you around 6 minutes, that doesnt sound like much but try to sit in an ice bath for 6 minutes, then come back and tell us 6 minutes is not long enough or big enough. CookPassBabtridge
I think the land/city ratio is what's throwing people off (e.g. the really young kids), its clear the map is way big enough. Must say Im a little curious to see if there is a dead space problem, but im not overly worried

Nexstar
How anyone can complain about the size of the map is beyond me, and actually quite dumbfounding. its HUGE, Los Santos is massive in itself, let alone the countryside. Look at this guys calculations and math, and then the map. Quite provoking and looks to be very real in my opinion. If so, Wow. http://www.reddit.com/r/GrandTheftAutoV/comments/1m3vmc/instead_of_simply_pasting_one_map_on_the_other_i/ sufferblind86

stobe187
The airport in San Andreas was tiny compared to the Los Santos one. Also, the roads in the city are the same width as the highways and there are no small alleys or smaller streets even shown. I have a very good feeling about this. I can say more during the weekend.. sf15
The City looks really small to me. You have to remember that when Rockstar mention the size of a game, they take into account, the detail, the interiors of buildings and all the underwater areas. The actually size of the map doesn't look that great. With the countryside, the map is bigger than Liberty City, but Los Santos on it's own doesn't look like it is. Just count the blocks and look at the roads.... Bit disappointed really. I hope I'm wrong and the map is deceiving.

Galaxyass
From Reddit. Is this true at all? For my calculations I used the map from here: http://gtaforums.com/topic/531982-very-detailed-analysis-of-map-sizes/ He made very precise calculation that prove that GTA SA is the biggest GTA map pre-GTA V and detail the scale of the map Instead of putting a rescaled map of RDR/IV/SA on a 1982x2644 map I decided to compare them with exact size according to their scales. And the leaked map from here: http://i.imgur.com/7BgHpKO.jpg I used the Photoshop ruler tool to find the following: From his calculation in the picture, using the golden line scale: 273 pixels = 1 mile = 1.60934km In GTA V's leaked map scale on the right size(5000ft - The part you can see in the middle): 76 pixels = 2250ft = 685.8m = 0.6858km So I needed to find out how much is 1km by using percentage calculations: GTA V: (76x100)/68.58 = 110.8194808982211 (Pixels per km) GTA SA: (273x100)/160.934 = 147.2653386 (Pixels per km) I then made the GTA SA map from his thread 110.8194808982211/147.2653386 = 0.752515467 = 75.2515467%times smaller(Using photoshop resize percents when you CNTRL+T) to match the size of 1k in GTA V's map to see the size comparison This is the result: http://i.minus.com/jbxSxKT9m7OCdE.png Edit 2 WITH GTA SA, RDR AND V - calculations(The gold bar is 1mile in all pictures, that's why the calculations are almost exact excluding the amount of pixels the gold bar takes in each picture): GTA IV : (324.5x100)/160.934 = 201.635453043 (Pixels per km) RDR: (272x100)/160.934 = 169.013384369 (Pixels per km) Reduction percent for IV:110.8194808982211/201.635453043 = 0.54960315374 = 54.960315374% Reduction percent for RDR:110.8194808982211/169.013384369 = 0.65568464481 = 65.568464481% (Don't forget that he's riding a horse so it might can feel bigger) Result 2 w/ RDR+IV+SA: All, IV, RDR As the guy in the thread I linked to said, ""GTA V is larger than San Andreas, GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption combined" statement means that it could take over *HALF AN HOUR to jog from one side of the map to the other***" but he used the number Rockstar gave of square km that might include water. Anyways, it's pretty big and if you didn't believe the pasted maps one upon the other like I did, you have proof now. It looks even bigger now seeing as the GTA IV map someone posted here covered half of the map while after doing some math, the GTA SA map that is bigger than GTA IV covered barely Los Santos.\ Edit: A good point Jennica pointed out: There's underwater distance to factor in and if most buildings in LS that has the same size as the whole San Andreas map have interiors, some with even with second, third etc. floors, this is insanely huge. That's too much to calculate without more information from R*. Edit3: Good point from The-Dragonborn regarding the legitimacy of this scale some people seem to disagree with although I provided solid proof:http://www.reddit.com/r/GrandTheftAutoV/comments/1m3vmc/instead_of_simply_pasting_one_map_on_the_other_i/
