Now that we're discussing this topic,

if a TV's Native Resolution is 720p, will it look better in 720p or 1080p?

Personally, I have a 720P TV in my room and a cable box. Cable feed can be upscaled from 720P to 1080i which is the highest my TV can handle despite being a native 720P. I have to say I do like the picture quality more when it's upscaled. Much sharper imo.

According to the Boxart, the game on PS3 will only display at its native 720p resolution on PS3.

While on the xbox it supports resolution upscaling up to 1080 interlaced or progressive.

interesting. Im buying a PS3 copy for my buddy but after seeing this hes wanting to change.

Are you kidding me? Just cause the 360 upscale it doesn't make it better. It makes the picture worst. If you upscale anything from their ORIGINAL you will see the flaws more.

you seem pretty mad that you bought a ps3 now dont you?

Why would I be mad?

If its true what he's saying which most likely is true.

That means the 360 version will LOOK worst due to the stretch out picture. Gives me another reason why the PS3 version is the better looking one.

Xbox supports 720 native just like ps3, but it also gives you the option for 1920x1080 upscale too. which is nice.

Really? I couldn't care less for these differences, and even then, it's almost meaningless, at this point I just wanna play the game.

It will not look better or worse, it will look exactly the same. XBOX will stretch the 720p video before outputting it to your TV at 1080p. PS3 will output it at 720p and your TV will display it fullscreen.

THIS LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME.

With GTA IV, I can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p... no difference at all ...

How is it nice?

Upscale only shows more flaws with the game.

If one game is a force fake 1080p while the other version is a NATIVE 720p and displays that you WILL see a difference.

Native 720p display > Upscaled 1080p display

I can, I play it on PS3 with a 60" TV at true 1080p. On my 46" I cannot tell the difference though.

You really only notice it above 55"

For the record, it only results in a smoother, yet more washed out image - 360 at 720p is going to look better than upscaled to 1080,

Logic?

Nigga please, we don't speak that.

1080 that has been upscaled from 720 by the system is more than 720 that has to be upscaled to 1080 by the TV, so it's clearly better!

I've been wondering for a while. Thanks. ;)

No problem. It's actually not much sharper, but edges are more smooth, acting as an anti-aliasing effect.

Will look identical, silly bloody console war threads, soooo stupid, a true gamer doesnt care what they play it on as long as they can play it.

I have both consoles and a Samsung series 8 55" LED TV, i purchased the ps3 version simply because i prefer gaming with that console and its controller and my friends all use ps3.

Alright I think we got enough feedback on this discussion. Thanks to those of you who gave civil responses. Especially Brian. Your posts seem to help the most for me at least.
