Gazi
So I heard that GTA V will hgave 49 square miles map size. For comparsion GTA: SA had "only" 13 miles. So those 49 miles include underwater ocean? truthful

Napalmbrain
No one knows exactly. For all we know R* could be hiding another area that no one has seen yet. truthful
DoomsdayFAN
If I had to venture a guess based on practicality, I'd say the 49 square miles includes the water. truthful
gwaha
That number is rather odd. I mean currently the landmass based on the known map outline is about 20 or so square miles. 29 square miles of underwater content is rather extreme. I still think that number is an error though and it may be 49 square kilometers of landmass which is 18.9 square miles and exactly 3.5 times RDR's playable area. I wonder if Rockstar actually told them or if the author simply looked up the numbers online assuming the source was Rockstar. truthful

SA = 13.9 and IV = 6.25 and RDR = 6.5 playable area = 26.65 which rounded up is 27 sq miles. RDR = 6.5 x 3.5 = 22.75 and 5x = 32 so there is one wrong quote in that area. It's definitely NOT sa + iv + rdr. If the landmass is going to be 22.75 miles = 23, then altogether it's 32 with water. Otherwise, we don't actually know. It COULD be 49. 73duster
Where did this 49 square mile number come from? I've seen it repeated several times. Is this an OFFICIAL measurement? Or is this ANOTHER "size of Los Santos" type of guessing game? truthful
jamieleng
Any estimation should count the seabed. It's a big part of the game & has the same attention detail as the rest of the map. I guarantee it will be better realized than Ibisoft's & it's just a small part of V.
Fail_At_GTA
Not this again... The site where you read that from used improper measurements of both GTA 4 and RDR, using inflated measurements. The actually landmass of GTA 5 is between 20-25sq miles. Assuming we take the middle and say its 22.5sq miles, the map with water would be 32sq miles, definitely not 49sq miles. MikeyB
I hope it's 77 squar mild 77 squar mild converts to 49 square miles. 49 square miles is only 7 x 7 miles. That is only about the size of my city and my city is only the 13th largest in the UK. Edited September 9, 2013 by MikeyB
killahmatic
Where did this 49 square mile number come from? I've seen it repeated several times. Is this an OFFICIAL measurement? Or is this ANOTHER "size of Los Santos" type of guessing game? Its an official number released the other day but never said if it included water or just land. My guess is that water is included. There has been too much emphasis on underwater being fully detailed and fully explorable for them not to list it as part of the map.

Dope_0110
I believe in Los Santos size thread estimates that say it's about 25 square miles which is pretty realistic and fits in with their description. 49 is waaaaay too much and definitely not going to happen. 73duster
It's DEFINATELY including the ocean, as it SHOULD. Even so, 49 square miles is IMMENSE. I hope it's true.

If it's true that map size is 49 square miles, it's about two San Andreas, two GTA IV and two RDR. Even counting the ocean, they can't reach that size. If the map is 49 square miles, then Los Santos and Blaine County are not alone. Edited September 9, 2013 by Darth Mike

It's just more speculation being fueled by numbers coming from faulty calculations, JUST like the Los Santos size thread.

AtomicPunk
If V is 49 quid...I mean square miles, then that mutha is big. BIG! BIG AND DETAILED. I would so get lost in that sh*t. But I have my doubts. I'm pretty tired and cannot tell if this is all just bullsh*t or not. If not, then that's BIG! Aw! I already said that. But squar mild....that's some srious sh*t right there.
