Old Xbox 360 models compared to new ones.

I've got an old probably 2009 Elite 360 and the reason I'm worried about it running GTA V is because I was playing GTA IV on it the other day and the game would suffer from severe lag when I was in heavy combat (using grenades, lots of explosions etc) and considering the fact that GTA V is a behemoth compared to the previous iteration, will my 360 break because it's a relativley old model.

The difference is that the new models have better ventilation and are less quite,

I have a old Xbox 360 as well and it works fine :colgate:

I've still got my original 2005 edition Xbox. Still runs just fine, loud as a horse though... Need to get those new fans like the slim has, nice and quiet.

2009 models have a Jasper chipset, they're fine.

GTA IV can drop the framerate in heavy combat, that game is a disaster optimalization wise, ask the PC community if you want some great stories about that ;)

I'm rocking a 2007 Xbox 360 Elite. Some games run horrendously slow, like approaching the teens in frame-rate. It's bad.

I'm a diehard PC gamer so I notice frame-rate drops much more easily than console users can, so I am not sure if this is the norm or if my console is dying.

My slim 250g was stolen when my house was robbed. I lost all my game saves. It was not cool man.

I now have a refurb'd elite console. It is getting more and more rickety tho..

That's not good.. when that happens it is about to die, or in need of a good cleaning.

All the xbox 360s use the same hardware performance wise. So it'll be fine. Gta iv was the first GTA on the rage engine so they had a lot of performance problems.

That's a relief to hear and if a MASSIVE game like GTA V manages to run smoothly (which I'm sure it will) on current-gen tech I will attest to the fact that Rockstar Games are not just video game developers...they are wizards.

2005 launch day console. Its a piece of shxt. Sounds like the airport, no HDMI port and hotboxes my room with radiation.

I thought that too so I opened her up and went to clean her out; there was 0 dust inside the system. I barely used this thing over the years since I got her, probably logged less than 100-200 hours total play time on her. And I would use compressed air to clean it out every so often in fear of the hardware failures. So I was kinda disappointed to have cracked it open to find it was all in vain. It's not an overheating issue, I guess it's just a my eyes are used to 60 fps issue.

what you describe there is not the consoles fault. IV is just that bad when it comes to framerate
