Playing GTA V for the free roam

I'm wondering if anyone here just plays GTA V for the free roam, and only does missions when you have to, I like it way more to just explore, kill and cross then follow someone with a car and kill him. Just relax and kill for fun.

Are there more people who do this?

i do,i love driving around,watching scenery,discover things and such

this may sound weird, but sometimes i like to walk to city areas especially full of population, and just stood there and look at different npc doing something

this game is like a second reality world for me

Exploring is 99% of the game for me. Following peds around, listening to them chatting, watching them go about their weird little routes.

Story will be ace, but I'm going to spend way more time just walking around and checking out the vibe.

The real success of this serie have never been the story, it's the free roam aspect of it, wrecking havoc with almost anything on the screen being part of the fun, the story is just a bonus IMHO, you bet I'm gonna do free roam.

After listening to the leaked cutscenes this will be the first GTA game I'll actually be interested in playing for the story but yeah, since GTA III I've only ever played them for the free roam.

I buy the GTA games for the entire experience. Burned out on missions? Go kill some people and drive off a cliff, champ. Tired of murdering? Go play some minigames, or hunt for hidden treats! That's the beauty of GTA, there's always something for everyone to do.

I mainly did the missions in GTA IV because it was boring to Free Roam. The environment was all the same. At least this will be like a SA in the aspect of the environment. Much more enticing to explore!

All about the exploration for me. It used to frustrate me that the world was never open from the get go and I'd be forced into doing missions to open new areas (which I would do only after I'd fully explored what was available). In fact in both Stories From Liberty City and San Andreas I spent so much time blowing money on weapons, gambling or whatever that I had to go get a job like a mug to advance the story. So I drove cabs in Liberty City for hours to get the money to advance and pimped for a few hours to level 10 in San Andreas to buy the airfield to advance haha....I still play GTA 4 and just live in the world, knowing what it's like to be in one particular spot at a particular time.

The music, the people, the transport, the environment create (as someone else said here) a second world. That's the whole thing for me.

I can't free roam without a mission for much time. I must have an objective. But I can explore between two missions or such.

If at some point, I have nothing else to do but exploring, I'd get bored. There must be something specific to keep me interested in exploring the map.

Making things randomly is lame IMO. I don't like to do that.

90% of GTA playing time is taken up with free roam. The story is important, since a crap story/protag = sh*t game. Never the case with Rockstar Games though. When it works out, I'm playing the game years to come. RDR free roaming is hunting mainly, GTAs is just role-playing with trainers. Pretending to be a hobo* in Liberty City, or play as Niko in real time seeing Roman, eating, perhaps call Brucie for a race set up.. it goes on. GTA V will be a new era of free roaming for me.

It's funny how few crimes I usually do when I am free roaming. Mostly I just drive a car around, because it's just fun.

Free roam is how that 100 hours of game play turn into thousands of hours. Free roam is just fun. I am hoping that sitting around like on a park bench will be available and we can just sit and listen to people.

R* always fills their GTA world which such goodies it to me is a wonder that they even make games that are so limited like MC:LA. Fun in it's own right, but still just one thing to do.

Bring on the free roam. Driving and exploration.

I love to do everything in the GTA games. Explore the map, play online, do missions, earn money, play mini games and do free roam. I don't just play the game for free roam.

I fully enjoy the missions and the things they unlock for you along the way but free roam is what makes GTA so great.

I would much rather experience the map during missions. It's like unwrapping a gift. Once I've completed the game, Then I'll goof around the map for days and days... Much more fulfilling for me.

  • 3 weeks later...

Can't say GTA5 free roaming has impressed nor entertainemed me that much, I had much more fun cruisining in 4 and absolutely much more fun in VC.

I think it's quite cheap that the map is huge, but for a huge portion of this huge map it's just mountain. Pretty useless imo.

There's not much for your imagination to do in the cities, like exploring buildings for jumps or finding fun drivingpaths.

I just find this GTA to be quite shallow :/ You get to know everything too quickly and you get bored of it quickly as well.

Free roam is the only thing i did when i was so young playing GTA 1 that I couldn't do the missions so it has always been a big part of gta for me. Just driving about, starting some sh*t with coppers, having a chase then a fatal standoff is how i like my freeroams to go :)
