Fixed Top Bar

As part of our on-going new default theme development, we'd like to know your thoughts on a proposal to fix the top black bar to the top of the browser window.

 

This would keep the bar fixed in place as you scroll down the page, negating the need to scroll to the top of the page to check your private messages and notifications, or logout.

I personally like the idea but I'm sure a number of people won't. So how about a little button that attaches/detaches it per user preference?

Yeah, that would probably be a better way. Though I would all be for the bar to be scrolled but I rather just the notification part of the bar to scroll, rather than the entire banner.

I would prefer it if the whole banner was to scroll down the page with you, as it would just makes things easier if you wanted to quickly go to your profile or see what notifications you have etc.

I was wondering why it the bar didn't follow me when I scroll down. It's so annoying to scroll up all the time when I want to check new notifications and private messages. Fix it, please.

Yeah, I would prefer it if the top bar scrolled down the page with you.

 

Also making notifications and such real-time would be pretty cool as well

It'd be nice but as Knife said, I think it should be optional (if possible) because certain users may find it annoying and dislike it.

Oh and yeah, I do want it to be fixed (optional), as well as the sidebar.

It's fine either way. I do like the idea of fixing the black bar at the top of the browser page. However, if it's possible to let the user choose between both, then that would be the best solution possible.

I voted yes, however, a toggle to make it be at the top or stuck to the top of the browser window would be nice.

I voted to keep it as it is, stuck at the top. It would be good for quick viewing but honestly it doesn't take much to scroll up and it will probably feel 'in the way' while you're reading through topics.

I like it fixed at the top, it's just what I'm used to. But having it as an option to scroll down the page with you would be a good idea. I'd just keep mine in a fixed position though.

How many Top Bar buttons are ambiguous to the ones on the Left Bar?

Please don't make it so it follows all the way down the page. It takes up screen space when you can just go to the top of the page.

If more things can be accessed via the bar, I won't mind it following me down on the pages. Currently, it doesn't look so important.

This feature is live now, and so far I love it.
