Bad Sport Points

A lot of people seem unclear on what these points are. They ARE NOT player determined. I can't just give someone points. These points are determined by your actions in game. An example is blowing up a players car. The game knows the difference between a players car and a pedestrians car. Points will be allocated when you do stuff like that on an automatic basis.

this will never happen, ever, in any game, ever, or they would have done it already...

don't expect them to decide to add it in this late to the game

and Im sure they talk about this stuff amongst there team over the 5years it takes to make the f*ckin game

this is gta they designed the bank robbery missions to ALLOW players to backstab and steal each others money, you really think theyre going to cater to casuals like its CoD?? lmao... no! just NO!!

 

maybe they can add a special lobby for people who want to use "god mode" and cheats to stay alive, that's where you belong

But what if you're screwing around and killing people in a natural GTA fashion? I don't think bad sport points should be given for that. I'm not just going to sit around in a game any not kill anyone ever. I will go after other players, shooting them out of their cars and possibly destroying the cars as well. You shouldn't be given bad sport points for playing GTA normally.

My main concern is that this will be abused by those who are butthurt about normal GTA things. What is the criteria for filing a "bad point" report? What's to stop some guy from doing it after he gets beat in a race, or in normal free roam when you kill him?

Okay, so we're still unclear on what actually causes it, and what they do. So really, it could be even worse than having player-allocated points due to there being no pardon system if it was an accident.

Yes, the "Bad Sport" stat is a good idea.

 

I would hate to see a repeat of the spawn-camping with Buzzards and RPGs that plagued Free Mode in GTAIV.

The only problem I see is actual bad sports randomly giving other players bad sport points, because then inevitably, a group of 10 year old bad sports are just going to go on a spree of giving everyone bad sport points, akin to how people go on sprees downvoting videos on YouTube for no reason whatsoever.

 

But otherwise, I like how it works, and I know it would've been useful back in IV. If it's implemented just right (which it isn't difficult to see that it shall be), it's a good, welcome addition.

 

No.. I don't think that's how this works. YOU don't give points. You get points for doing things frowned upon. It's an automatic thing, not player determined.

 

Oh. Then it will be much more difficult to implement flawlessly. Hopefully Rockstar can pull it off without (much) error.

I think similarly but not exactly...passive mode is for those who dont want to be PK'd all the time while they are going around doing missions etc, normal should be the aiming variations in a friendlier environment where you can kill people if you choose to, enabling you to have a bit of fun...maybe a third, chaos mode where no bad sport points are accumulated or rated on. Potentially the option to set who you play with via your phone options...

i shouldnt have 2 "turn on" anything but my game & play the way i want 2 play. passive mode is not a protection bubble nor do i need one. trolls should be punished & im all for it.

 

after you accumulate enough of the bad rep points youll surely receive - hopefully rockstar has a forgive you policy when you relinquish your selfish ways of playing.

SPECULATION! I would design it like this:

 

Players only gain bad sport (BS XD) points in team games, that is, where they have allies they are supposed to be working with toward the objective, whether it is a mission, deathmatch or race. Go ahead and pour on the ultra violence against the enemy team, destroy customised cars and other cherished items as you wish. You only get BS points if you start offing your own guys.

 

The idea is that people join a team game with the expectation of bullets and bombs from the other side. They know the risks and will have insurance and/or balls. They don't want to be blindsided by the guy who was watching their back, especially if he turns out to be a squeaky kid who screams "fa**ot, I f*cked your mom" before disconnecting with a demented laugh. That would be bad sportsmanship, and the kid gets some points for it.

 

Free mode has the passive option as Milton T Pike rightly mentions, and is designed for chaos anyway.

 

Other offences include modding/hacking, and possibly some highly charged forms of verbal abuse (though that is a thin end of a dodgy wedge in my view).

 

Penalties would be being unable to join games with people who have fewer points than you (meaning the backstabbiest player in the world at any given time will only be able to play if someone else becomes even more evil), a tax on your in-game earnings proportional to your BS, and maybe having your skills drained/assets seized. Points would only dissipate following time spent in game behaving yourself. You can't just not play for a while to wipe your record.

 

Obviously R* have thought of all of that and much besides. The real game will be way better than this!

I'm about 97% positive this is how it's going to work, based on how it was explained. It's confirmed you automatically gain the points for doing something like blowing up another players car, so there's no way it's player determined.

I wrote something about this in a previous similar post.

 

Say I am griefed and I decide to go all vengeful an` sh*t. I start a KOS vendetta against a player and/or a crew. I will get bad points because I`ll kill a guy 100 times in 30 minutes, even if said asshole killed me 50 times in 30 minutes.

 

The system doesn`t know if it is a legit kill or a griefer.

 

It is a good thing, but it can be a pain in the butt for vendettas and paybacks. And sometimes, just sometimes, an asshole will only listen to a bigger asshole and some kicks in the butt...

What if you dashboard or disconnect out of a game just before it ends and the points don't accumulate? Like people that care too much about K/D and win/loss. Wouldn't stop people from joining games for the sole purpose of being an annoyance if it's possible.

I think it is a good idea, a good amount of years ago when kids were not on the internet as much as they are nowadays games were often populated with decent players - Game breaking behavior, Trolling and immature behavior meant a ban instantly.

Now 10 years later when every 12 year old has a Playstation or an Xbox online games are rife with bored kids that seem to do nothing else than grabbing jets and crashing them into other players on purpose.. singing trough their mic in an open voice channel... or ofcourse crashing/going to wrong way in races.

Bad sport? hell yeah, other games that have a similar system to put all the idiots in a room together works brilliantly.

You can file a report.. Which doesn't do anything unless you follow up and actually call XBL to make a formal report.

Not entirely true; on XBL, you can avoid players.

If you choose to do so in automatic matchmaking you will never be placed in their server, other way around as well if an avoided player enters matchmaking and you are already in a server the avoided player will not join your server.

Manually the player can ofcourse join your server if he has you as friend.. but who the hell is friends with an avoided player.

I think it's a great idea. I'm sure there will be a mode for "anything goes" but the modes where people want to play serious and earn money shouldn't be ruined by bad sports.
