Bad Sport Points

  1. 1. Do you think it's a good addition to GTA Online?

Recommended Posts

I used the search feature. Didn't see a thread on the first page about this, so I assume if there was one, it's long gone. The only one close was something about GTA being peaceful.. Which is LOL..

Anyway, thoughts on Bad Sport Points? I think it's a great idea. So far, between me and my three other friends IRL that are getting the game on release, we're split 50/50. Two of us think it's good, two of us think it sucks.

My reasoning is it brings more to the game. A much better experience since we'll actually be able to do stuff without the fa**ot that runs around with an RPG. Sure, that'll happen still, but not nearly as much I assume.

I also hope there is some sort of negative repercussion for X amount of Bad Sport Points, that possibly affect your being able to find a game with players that don't have many. Maybe even a matchmaking penalty if you're out of control with it.

Thoughts?

Edit - Should you be able to get rid of them after a while? I think yes. After a while of good behavior, they should start going away.

A lot of people seem unclear on what these points are. They ARE NOT player determined. I can't just give someone points. These points are determined by your actions in game. An example is blowing up a players car. The game knows the difference between a players car and a pedestrians car. Points will be allocated when you do stuff like that on an automatic basis.

I think it depends on what happens when bad sport ports are handled. Is one able to get rid of them after a set amount of time....what impact do they have upon you if you have them...etc.

Good point, I'll add to the OP.

It's a good idea n somewhat keeps people moderated but it depends h ow its implimented and how it works. There will be fa**ots online trying to annoy other people its inevitable its just how they're dealt with and how they even gain bad sports points.

doesn't xbox live and psn already offer this as part of the overall online experience?

seriously I don't get all the whining about people who hate online cuz of little kids or whatever, I never have a problem with "bad sportsmanship" and if I do I leave the game and find another one... its all about who you CHOOSE to play with, if somebody plays fair add them to your friends list and build a group of people to enjoy the gaming experience with

You can file a report.. Which doesn't do anything unless you follow up and actually call XBL to make a formal report.

I don't know about PSN.

Max Payne 3 had games specific for cheaters! All the cheaters would play in a game together, if they continued to cheat then their would be major consequences.

But since RPG'ing isn't cheating but more of an annoyance, I assume it would be dealt with differently. Like having a bad rep being shown on their character.

The only problem I see is actual bad sports randomly giving other players bad sport points, because then inevitably, a group of 10 year old bad sports are just going to go on a spree of giving everyone bad sport points, akin to how people go on sprees downvoting videos on YouTube for no reason whatsoever.

But otherwise, I like how it works, and I know it would've been useful back in IV. If it's implemented just right (which it isn't difficult to see that it shall be), it's a good, welcome addition.

I agree, I really hope that bad sport points are time-based and not permanent like your public rating of your XBL profile or something. Imagine that some douchebag kills you, and then jumps in his buddy's car - but his buddy had nothing to do with the chaos - so when you blow up that car, his buddy gives you bad sport points. You could end up with bad sport points just for defending yourself.

In addition, believe-you-me I am right behind you guys who want to avoid the hours of endless helicopter dick-in-bum and RPG retardery online, but I also think that some degree of assholery is needed for it to feel like the real, authentic GTA experience.

It becomes a problem if the community starts to be bad sports on a whole. Like if more people are asshats than non asshats. No one really wants to spend 20 min hopping from game to game to find one that is enjoyable.

It also depends as what Rockstar deem as being a bad sport. All i know up to yet is blowing up a mates car. As for everything else i'd be interested to see a list of what you'd get bad sport points for. So at least then people know what they should try to avoid doing. I'ts a good idea though, Keeps people in check. And maybe its automated.

No.. I don't think that's how this works. YOU don't give points. You get points for doing things frowned upon. It's an automatic thing, not player determined.

I agree....spawn camping etc needs to be punished but not playing within the intentions of the game mode. Some people are bound to be killed a lot just due to skill etc.

Get over it? I am not all up in arms about it. I am having a rational discussion no need to get YOUR panties in a bunch.

Yeah they need to be very careful to distinguish whether someones being a dick or not. I hope the system isn't too harsh giving bad sports for too much. And yeah whether its permanent or not is interesting. If you dont do anything dick-ish for a week or so do you lose bad sport points again?

I hope its not permanent, because hey, who doesnt like to be a dick to a friend every now and then just for sh*ts and giggles?

I say no, why?

Well there could be that one asshole that literally just gives you a bad rep, then get's hid buddies on to down vote you over and over, then you get f*cked and you are prevented from playing with the good players. :beerhat:

I assume it would be line Tiers.

the higher the tier. the higher the consequences.
maybe have the title for a week. then 2 weeks. a month.

and you would be filtered from sessions that have a block on it.
and also a right to vote to kick/ and or apply the bad sportsman badge.
and the host also being able to kick without needing a vote.

ive played a game for years (mmorpg)
and when you kill people to get a white skull for 15 minutes.
kill 3 people in a certain amount of time and you get a red skull.
as a RS you are prone to being PK'd and lose all of your EQ + Exp + skills.
after a red skull you are a black skull.
lose all the above and respawn with very little health. as its your priority to get to your Depot (character item chest).

i think this bad sportsman is a VERY good idea.

I'm all for it. This doesn't completely stop people being douches and attack you for no reason but limits it which is great. I think it's good to have that possible threat out there.

Also if LSPD puts a bounty on players with too many bad sports points or something like that it could lead to good fun.

well considering this feature doesn't exhist you are correct, but if people just use the built in xbox live/psn feature to report somebody then its the same f*ckin thing

I like the idea a lot, but should it be handled through rating, I see this feature being abused heavily.

It's a great idea. It's just how well its implemented but The Benz admitted as much as anyone he hates people trying to ruin the experience for other players and confirmed that Rockstar will monitor the system and 'govern it' So as long as this is implemented well its a fantastic idea. Which is also offputting to many people that want to try and be a nob.

A lot of people seem unclear on what these points are. They ARE NOT player determined. I can't just give someone points. These points are determined by your actions in game. An example is blowing up a players car. The game knows the difference between a players car and a pedestrians car. Points will be allocated when you do stuff like that on an automatic basis.

this will never happen, ever, in any game, ever, or they would have done it already...

don't expect them to decide to add it in this late to the game

and Im sure they talk about this stuff amongst there team over the 5years it takes to make the f*ckin game
