AllenKS
How do they even know how much was spent on it? Also, that means GTA V would have to have around 4-5million pre-orders, how did they get those pre-order figures?
epicluca
Where was it confirmed that V cost $265m? How do they even know how much was spent on it? Also, that means GTA V would have to have around 4-5million pre-orders, how did they get those pre-order figures? VGChartz has 3million for Xbox and PS3 in the USA alone Edited September 8, 2013 by gtamad8

INFYN
you can re-skin call of duty each year and claim you're "breaking records" with pre-orders and sales, but wait 5 or so years and here comes rockstar to piss on activision's bonfire. A £170,000,000 dev budget for GTA V sounds like a resounding "f*ck you, we're better" from rockstar to the rest of the games industry, lmao sagemred

Durden
Yawn. I never doubted the significance of GTAV towards the gaming industry. Neither part of the OP is surprising to me. I'm more excited at reading people's thoughts on GTAV, that so far don't know sh*t. The only people that are not excited for GTAV are gruesomely uninformed. You should read the GTAV threads on NeoGAF, the GTAV haters are staying away because IV left a bad taste in their mouths. Narrow-minded idiots. I fret not, though - for I know they'll love it when they play it. Edited September 8, 2013 by gionascm2
AllenKS
Again, I don't want to be a party pooper, or whatever, but where did they even get their figures from? I haven't seen any confirmation of the budget, or the amount of pre-order sales confirmed anywhere. Except VGchartz and those were US-only, and VGchartz is horrible as well. gonnaenodaethat
The production / advertising budget for GTA V was plucked out of thin air (ie: made up) from a so called journalist from The Scotsman newspaper who, after I read the article, has never set foot in R*'s offices in Leith Street let alone interviewed anyone there. Nikhilmao, Archangel0934, TELEMUNDINI and 2 others

Vormek
If I'm not mistaken, that (inofficial) number includes both development and marketing. There are plenty of movies with a 200M+ budget for production only, not including marketing. So there would be plenty of movies with a bigger budget than 265M if you count marketing for those movies. Just a little fact check. Very impressive nontheless. V seems to be taking the throne for the most expensive game ever made and will probably hold onto that title for a very long time. Vormek
Avatar cost $310,000,000 and $150,000,000 for promotion The budget for Avatar was $237.000.000 my friend Don't know how much the marketing cost but wouldn't be surprised if it was 150 mil.
