IslaVista
With the strike on Syria getting the green light from Congress; Obama striving to pass it. Russia warning the U.S. alongside China, moving a significant Naval force against the U.S. on the coast of Syria. Iran threating to attack Israel in the case of a military strike. U.S. military troops training for a conventional war in the Middle East and a propaganda movement going on in the states. Military months away from peak intervention status. What do you think? Do you think the U.S. will strike? Russia is ready with public support to scrimish the U.S. in the middle east. Could we be looking at the start of another major war? Maybe WW3? Discuss. (Keep posts a respectful debate.) El Zilcho
If it didn't happen at the height of the Cold War, what makes you think that America and Russia would throw their weight behind Syria all of a sudden, to the extent of a World War? It won't happen; you can bomb my house if it does. universetwisters and DeafMetal 2 U R B A N I T A S
The-King
What is it with everyone crying "World War" everytime a military conflict starts? I mean, Jesus. I remember them when we bombed Libia specifically. Not to mention the Afghan and Iraq wars, there were just constant cries of 'World War' and nothing happened. People are stupid. This If the USSR and America could keep their cool for fourty years, then what makes you think they'll suddenly flip sh*t over something that's been going on for a little over a week? H. León
Excuse my ignorance, but what changes once it's declared 'World War'? Edited September 8, 2013 by HUGOHL
OchyGTA
For starters, there will never be a 'World War' on the scale of the two in the 20th century. Warfare has evolved to the point where that level of troop deployment and engagement is unrealistic and unnecessary. With regards to Syria, Obama is just playing a game. He knows that Syria is Russia's last ally in the middle east. Russia have recently given Snowden asylum. It's no coincidence that the US have now ramped up their military presence and made clear their "intentions" over Syria so soon after Putin's decision to grant Snowden political asylum. All Obama is doing is trying to force Putin's hand over Snowden by threatening to topple the Syrian regime. It's all politics.
DeafMetal
The world's economy is too closely linked together for another World War. It'll never happen as long as the economy is like it is now. China could wreck the US but then they'd take a huge hit to their economy; works vice-versa. Otter
I think a "significant naval force" is impossible in comparison to the United States Navy. It will take more than Syria - whatever happens - to spark anything amongst the first world United Nations. Knock on wood. GTA-King
W3BB13
Meh. We've been on the brink of World War III for years now. Even if it does happen, it's completely out of our control, so there's no sense in worrying about it.
