Need Help deciding between which Console for GTA:V

To recap. PC gamer. Haven't had a console in 6 years, want to play GTA:V badly, no pc release anytime soon, etc etc.

1. What has the better online Experience? I'd rather not pay for Online, but if I have to then I will. Do I need to register a credit card with sony even if online is free?

2. Cheapest base model console? Or best Value console. I'll buy a new one if it comes with bundled GTA:V

3. All my friends are on PC. Literally none of us have any consoles. So I'm impartial to either or.

4. I admit I'm more nostalgic towards the PS3 controller because I used to play alot of Socom on the PS2 back in college. But I do use a 360 gamepad on my PC when flying in BF3, due to it's superiority in FPS games.

5. What does it mean when a game is installed or partially installed on the system? I have an SSD so I'm used to fast load/boot/server connect times on my PC.

6. How's the online community on both systems? I don't want prepubescents screaming into my ear about owning me, like in TF2.

7. I have a 4K 36" display. Which system can better upscale to high resolutions? I'm assuming that HDMI won't be a problem on either?

8. How fast does each system load games?

9. Is it possible to modify controls in anyway on either console?

10. I have a multi monitor setup, can either console stretch across 3 displays?

Thank you.

1. That's pure your opinion. And you don't need to register a credit card with Sony to play online

2. PS3 and GTA V have an exclusive bundle. 500GB console, 1 month ps+, 1 controller and the game.

3. -

4. Well, ps3.

5. A game loads faster if it's fully installed.

6. I've never really had kids screaming at me in IV (ps3).

7. -

8. -

9. the developer decideds this.

10. No idea

4. Yes

5. Not sure

6. There's gonna be assholes in both consoles, in my xbox experience i rarely encounter kids screaming but that's just my luck i guess

Thank for giving us a list of things to help us decide. Usually people just ask what's best and then a console war starts.

1. What has the better online Experience? I'd rather not pay for Online, but if I have to then I will. Do I need to register a credit card with sony even if online is free?
I haven't played online using an Xbox. I've only ever owned a PS3. Honestly, I've never had a single problem playing on PSN which is free and you don't need to enter a credit/debit card to use it.
2. Cheapest base model console? Or best Value console. I'll buy a new one if it comes with bundled GTA:V
Base models only come with 4GB or 12GB storage. So you'll need to install a HD. You could of course buy a console that comes with a HD pre installed. It just really depends on what kind of deal you get. Both consoles cost about the same. There is a PS3 GTA V bundle available! I'd suggest getting that.
You can use an SSD but because the PS3/360 use older SATA connections then you won't be able to fully utilise the power of an SSD. An SSD compared to a 7200rpm in a PS3 is only a few seconds faster most of the time. If you're installing a HD then go with a 7200rpm over 5400rpm. a 7200rpm only runs a couple degrees hotter but it's safe to use in a console. If you buy the PS3 GTA V bundle it will come with a 5400rpm. This speed is fine but you'll notice pop in textures much more than a 7200rpm obviously.
As for installation. "install" ususally means a partial install. 360 will be able to install the full GTA V game, you'll still need to put the disc in to play but it won't spin. PS3 only does a partial install. Basically it installs all the large files like textures/models for quicker access. the rest of the game is read straight off the disc.
6. How's the online community on both systems? I don't want prepubescents screaming into my ear about owning me, like in TF2.
Never had this on PSN.
7. I have a 4K 36" display. Which system can better upscale to high resolutions? I'm assuming that HDMI won't be a problem on either?
Both consoles use HDMI but I'm not sure about upscaling. I don't think you'll have any problems with either console.
8. How fast does each system load games?
Installing a game onto the HD from a disk doesnt take long. Can be anywhere from a few minutes to about an hour. Just really depends on the size of the install and what type of HD you have installed.
It really doesn't take that long to load up a game. I don't have an exact time but it really hasn't ever bothering me. Some games take longer than others.
9. Is it possible to modify controls in anyway on either console?
The only way you can change controls is choosing between pre defined settings. i think the names are something like: default, south paw, legacy etc.
10. I have a multi monitor setup, can either console stretch across 3 displays?
I don't think you can do this on either console

Based on what information you've given us, I'd say your best bet is the PS3. You said you'd rather not pay for online gaming, are nostalgic for the playstation controller and would like to buy a bundle console with the game.

pc gamer here. i decided to get a ps3 because it has better exclusives (mostly tps games) its got bluray, a better controller imo and ps+. i think xbox is technically better, i'm expecting gta v to be slightly better on that but overall ps3 is the best.

Regarding your triple monitor question, I believe it only works with Gran Turismo on the PS3 and Forza on the 360. Even then you actually need 3 consoles and 3 copies of the game.

you seem like a good egg (for a pc head) so get a ps3 so you can play with us for free.

also TLOU is a must play.

I may be slightly bias, but I would seriously recommend PS3 for the following reasons:

1) PlayStation Network is free, and PS+ comes with some great perks should you fancy them.

2) If you feel like deviating from GTA, the PS3 has great v exclusives such as The Last Of Us, Heavy Rain, Uncharted, infamous, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Killzone. Also, Thomas Was Alone is on PS3 and PC.

3) The whole hard drive/disk space thing is handled much better on the PS.

4) GTAV+500GB PS3 bundle. Or, get a PS3, order GTA digitally and get 75 percent discount on any Rock* title.

5) Ps3 has bluray and the game only comes on one disk.

Hope I helped. Also, well done for a well written OP that has avoided a console war!

What does that mean? I watched a playthrough of TLOU, I was seriously considering getting a PS3 because of it, but the game is more movie than game.

Check # 3.

I admit I'm leaning slightly towards the 360 because of the Controller.

Well I have a PS3 so I'm biased to that I guess... but yeah if you don't wanna pay for online PS3 is where it's at. Also, probably doesn't mean much at all but so far I think all the in game things we've seen have been shown on PS3 - whether that's due to a slight technical/performance advantage I have no idea, but something to think about.

Good luck with whatever choice you make! Oh and blu-ray player!

As far as upscaling goes, the 360 is your best bet. It natively upscales 720p games to 1080p. The PS3 does not upscale 720p games at all and will just push the 720p render output straight to your TV. At that point you'd be relying on your TV to do the upscaling if it does indeed have a scaler, otherwise it'll just be running in 720p.

If for whatever reason you don't like the ps3 controller afterglow controllers are set up like a choice. I had it when I had a ps3

PS3 because it's better than 360.

I may be biased since I own a 360, but I think maybe you should get the 360 since you said you are familier with the controller, since you use the 360 controller on pc.

So just get whatever console you view as the better value, and what you are more familier with. Another thing to ask the OP is are you looking (regardless what console) to purchasing a new console, or would you not mind getting a used one that could be cheaper if you're just looking to purchase a new console soley for GTA V.

Since you prefer the 360 controller buy this device on Amazon and buy yourself a PS3. I will be playing GTA V on the PS3 with a 360 controller. I don't use the turbo function that much, I just bought it because I wanted to use a 360 controller instead of the PS3 controller. One thing about this device, you will need a "wired 360 controller, not a wireless controller." http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007SO06O6/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
