TeamTrev101
right so knowing my luck, my xbox 360 decided to f*cking f*ck up last night, the disk tray wasn't reading games. i set aside 3 hours; took apart the whole thing, removed dust and fixed the disk tray. thank god it works now, i'm kinda glad that this happened the week before rather than on the day. i'm just throwing this out here to clean your console before the games come out
Patriot_Action
You can clean consoles? I run a Swiffer thing across the top once a week. I don't recommend ANYONE open a console and try to clean the inside of it. RichyB

serimos6
Yeah i wouldn't recommend anyone even attempt to take apart an Xbox unless they have an okay amount of modding experience, it's a pretty good way to break something inside of it in the process of opening it. If a kid sees this and decides to give it a shot there's a good chance he/she will wind up with an even more broken xbox lol You can clean consoles? I run a Swiffer thing across the top once a week. Tear that thing open and clean it before the dust build up shorts out your system! I completely disassemble mine once a month. I've even run it while it was completey apart, never has it done it any harm. Edited September 8, 2013 by Omnifarious

TeamTrev101
yeah i had difficulty when doing this a couple of years ago, but what i can suggest is that when i did it this time i had countless videos and tutorials on the best way to do it, i know it seems risky but seriously you'd be surprised how much sh*t is in there, and i'm not taking any overheating risks when playing gta5
IveGotNoValues
I dust off my PS3 pretty frequently, it works fine. I wouldn't go as far as opening it up, but that's cause I don't have any experience with that kind of stuff.

Omnifarious
Also to note, (at least for an Xbox) is that there's really nothing in there to break. It's just a giant bread board on a metal plate, the disk drive is screwed directly into it, so no breaking that, and there's a plastic cover over the fan. That's it. Nothing else inside. TheRealBars
If you're afraid to open it. Pin your fans in place. (Don't want them to spin - they can generate energy which in turn can burn out the connectors) Give it a good vacuuming trough the vents, it will suck most of the dust straight out.I just don't have a very dusty place, i was surprised how little dust build up my pc had after 1 year of use. Actually, electronics tend to attract dust due to the fields present within the majority of their components. The rest of the house can be spotless, but the internal gubbins of a PC/Console can be disgusting.

Patriot_Action
K, you can all keep preaching if you want. Bottom line is that unless somebody knows what they're doing, opening a computer/videogame console to clean or repair it is often more risk than it's worth. Recommending it to people is dangerous. Would you suggest that somebody who knows nothing about cars do their own brakes? I'll take my chances with dusting the outside of the console like a normal person. Been working for ~20 years so far. There's no special technique... You just take off the case, that's it. It's just a two sided plastic wrap. You can literally just tear it off your console like a shell of a pistachio. I know, I've done it before.
