DryBomber5
I find it hard to believe that in another 5-7 years, there will be a GTA 6 that will top this one. I don't know about you guys but how can it get any better than GTA 5? Besides enhancements and different story, I really don't see myself (In 5-7 years) getting hyped for GTA 6 the way I am hyped now. I know that's an arrogant way of thinking but it's just incomprehensible to imagine something better then something that already seems too good to be true. When GTA 4 came out, I was amazed at how god the graphics were at the time and now I look at them and they're terrible compared to GTA 5 (maybe that's over exaggerated but you get my point). Then a couple years later, RDR (red dead redemption) came out and those graphics were amazing and still are to this day. GTA 5 is coming out in just over a week and graphically, I think it's the best looking open world game there is... especially for current gen consoles. Now just imagine in 5-7 years from now, not only will we be getting hyped for GTA 6 but we will remember how hyped we were for GTA 5 and God knows what GTA 6 will look in comparison to GTA 5. Will it be a similar comparison to the way GTA 5 is compared to GTA 4? I wanna know what you guys think, because I really do find it hard to believe..... tommyxbased and swagbucks

Baineblade
...Where the hell are you pulling 5-7 years out from? Their average development time is 4-5 years between GTA games, as well, they have multiple studios to pull resources from.
Eutyphro
Isn't this a topic about future GTA's and thus in the wrong section? But anyway, I do feel the same way a bit. I don't know what they can do in the future that is better. IV had such a lack of features and variety that improvement was completely obvious. GTA V however has everything I want. Sure, in the future the worlds will be bigger and the graphics will be even better, but it remains to be seen if gaming will become more enjoyable than it will be with GTA V. koinix
I remember being pumped for San Andreas. At the time I didn't think it was possible for anything to top that, but look where we are now. I feel for u OP, the advancement of technology is baffling for me sometimes.
Fail_At_GTA
Don't forget, GTA 4 was supposed to top San Andreas and look how that turned out. It looks like GTA 5 will be nearly impossible to top until Rockstar is very familiar with next gen technology. GTA 6 may be a slight letdown, but GTA 7 should blow us away again. swagbucks
z06z33
Look at IV to me it didn't top SA yea the graphics were good but there was sooo much more to SA. I don't think the next GTA is 5 years down the road I'd say 2. I don't think next gen with have the performance issues that Rockstar has had to overcome with the current gen consoles the PS3 has 1 cpu core and the PS4 has 8 the PS3 256mb or ram the PS4 8GB. The future is bright!! Off topic but how does this game work with only 256MB ram. My PC has 8GB and that's a pretty small amount compared to some guys who have 64GB ram Edited September 8, 2013 by z06z33

GTA 4 - 2008 GTA 5 - 2013 That's 5 years (actually more because of the delay) and you act like you know when GTA 6 is coming out? I doubt it's gonna take over 5 years, I just put the 7 in there just in case it does. In fact, in relation to this topic, it might take longer then you think, especially if their intention is to make it better than GTA 5, ya know? CM_Kimmy
Even though GTA IV was a great base test for this console generation, the game lacked quality unlike SA. So for me, even though IV was good. SA was better.
Dog_Bread
We've all had that moment just after you commit, when you realise you could have done something better. Plus there's all the feedback you get on your work from the consumer/audience. The Benz had a d'Oh moment when the CVG guys asked if there was four player tennis available in GTAO, and pledged to get it in the game if they had time. Why didn't they think of that rather obvious feature already? They were too busy coming up with god knows how many other fantastic ideas and implementing them. Luckily, GTA 5 is now in the bank, freeing up minds at R* to push the envelope. The game designers will never cease to innovate until the day we are able to live in a GTA simulation (perhaps using an XBOX googleplex, 5th Dimension edition), and even then some bright spark will think of how to layer in more awesomeness. Frantz Fuchs
A GTA should be released right at the end of the console cycle. R* should get to grips with the new tech by making other games (RD3, Bully 2), then they can make the best GTA possible. TheFinestDonkey

I asked myself the same thing when GTA 4 came out, regarding story, characters, graphics.. just to name a few. It's like, Rockstar reads this topic and goes like: Oh man, that made me laugh so hard. Spot on, good sir. Spot. On. But yea, even though GTA IV was a major leap in quality, it was one of the few cases were quality did not beat qauntity. San Andreas had so much more content. It is still my favorite GTA to date, but it is painfully obvious how outdated the graphics and mechanics are. Can't wait to play the GTA V. So for me, even though IV was good. SA was better. I can't really respond to this, as GTA 4 was my first gta game (when gta sa came out, I was in middle school and didn't even have xbox/play station 2) but I do know that a lot of people were disappointed with GTA 4, most of which were people that have played San Andreas. If you just take GTA 4 for what it is without comparing it to anything, it was still an awesome game. Being that GTA 5 is my second GTA game, I already had my expectations high and from the looks of it, I definitely won't be disappointed.
celozzip
i thought they started development in 2010? i'm sure houser said that.. he's also said in the past they like to leave a gap before starting the next one to get some perspective. so 3 years dev time i reckon. hard to be specific with multiple projects and studios on the go. polycount
I agree and disagree with OP- It IS hard to think of how they could make it better, but it's possible. They could make it so you can go into many more buildings, rob houses, allow you to have houseboats (Driveable safehouse), and a lot more that I won't post here due to the sheer size of the list. So there's a lot of improvements that COULD be made, but I agree that right now it's pretty hard to actually think of how it could overall be a game that takes as much of a step forward as this one. swagbucks
Gigabomber
This GTA can be easily topped with the addition of Liar's dice, horses, and persistent mud effects that require hand washing to remove. Or, perhaps, being able to own more than one house at a time. Edited September 8, 2013 by Gigabomber

RussianFreak
I remember being overly excited for GTA IV. Absolutely over-the-top obsessed in fact. It all fades in time, especially because the IV PC port wasn't the smoothest thing in the world. Either way, I'm assuming the next game will probably have a huge map, even more customization, and much more photorealistic rendering. Maybe soft body physics for cars or something. This game will look then like a rigid and low-rez thing of the past.
