sparkzmedia
Hey Guys! I'm one of those people who are plagued with the dreaded strict nat! Sounds like this is going to be a problem in GTA Online, for example in red dead redemption I could not play online AT ALL. But I can play games like COD and Battlefield. Even if it runs fine, it is going to severely limit matchmaking choices. You guys are probably going to say to go portforward - I've tried it whenever I do it my router website/page/thing freezes Do you think this will be the case? Romans Cousin Niko
What's NAT?
Spawngasm
You should call your ISP if the page freezes when you try to go to your routers page. If you could get into that page you could then put your PS3 or 360 into a DMZ. DMZ would fix the strict NAT issue.
Spawngasm
What's NAT? Network Address Translation (NAT) is the process where a network device, usually a firewall, assigns a public address to a computer (or group of computers) inside a private network. The main use of NAT is to limit the number of public IP addresses an organization or company must use, for both economy and security purposes. TheRealBars
Not connectivity wise since the servers are Dedicated Hosts, unlike console hosted such as CoD or Gears of war. In-game voice however might still be an issue with you not being able to hear other players on Strict and Moderate NAT values. r0eladn
I have the same problem, only i am not strict but moderate. I am afraid these problems maintain with GTAO. And if you tried PFWD or setting a DMZ, and you still get the error, you should put your Modem in PPPoE mode and router to bridge. (or the other way around, cant remember)
nbsaibot
Well the only times I cant join a free roam server in GTA IV is when people decide to mod it. In red dead redemption I can't really get into any matches, even by adding ports. But then again i am leeching off neighbors wifi
Tupiz
I thought the NAT 3 worst one, the only bad one, but I have had hard time with my type 2, also. It's such annoying that I can't open it.

It will not cause as big of an issue like in P2P hosted games, GTA:O is a dedicated hosted server. Edited September 8, 2013 by TheRealBars

Loves GTA
Get a static IP from your ISP if you can. I used to have NAT Type 3 on PS3 no matter what, but finally decided to try a static IP and that got me to NAT Type 2. (open) I tried everything before that. Port forwarding, DMZ configurations, etc. Nothing worked. I have to pay a little extra each month for this IP, but it's totally worth it.

A console is not in shape of hosting GTA:O.. no that is way beyond its scope, you need a proper server park for that. All information is real-time and in the cloud, Rockstar said they could monitor and make changes to the game at any time, including new content, P2P hosting wouldn't suffice for that. Spawngasm
I'll add another thing... It might be the browser you're using when you try to connect to 192.168.1.1 try using chrome or IE. Firefox works for me, but it has issues so that may be the problem. I really don't know any fix unless you can get into your router to change settings.
