Should Player Blips Only Show To Friends/Crew?

I think Online would be more interesting if you didn't know where other strangers are...

That way you have to stay on your toes instead of seeing an attcker from a mile away.

I really hope so, this was my mot hated RDR feature...knowing where everyone was if they were not crouched and seeing there name and color blimp far away next to the avatar....making stealth bad since you knew where they were almost all the time.

If the restricted it to crew/friends I would love that

yeah i hope there is something like this..also will make getting away from griefers easier. I also hope they fix the spawn system and that the far option actually works

what if we spawned high up in the air, and parachuted to the ground?

Your suggestion is interesting, and I'm glad you're posting it. It's really annoying when you roleplay and your rivals metagame your location by looking at the blip, instead of getting their lazy ass in a car and looking themselves.

that'd be alright as long as you are away from other players since you can shoot from parachutes now. I just hate having everyone spawn right next to each other so it turns into a spawn killing fest. If it's like IV's spawn system I will be using passive mode A LOT

I think there should be 2 variants of free roam- The free roam I describe below, and one where all blips are visible.

The only people in this variant mode that should be able to see your blips are rivals, crewmembers, and friends. I always saw people from afar in RDR with a sniper (I had horrid aim so could never hit them anyway, just used it for scouting purposes) but they could see me too and knew exactly where I was at all times- even on literally the other side of the map. It is my hope that this isn't the case in GTA 5.

Not blimp, but blip in RDR multiplayer there was different colored dots for each player or matching for friendly or rival possie...in normal mode you could track their every movement on the map and mini map, also if I'm not mistaking if they were in your line of sight you could see the names over their head... Making it almost impossible to stealth and such, turning it into a snipe fest, especially with the bad respawn system.

Hardcore fixed it sorta but you had to be crouching...

Been a while since I played RDR so I may have forgotten some stuff and made error's.

"I am just an NPC strolling around, passing by in front of the bank you are breaking in into. NO, I`m totally friendly and NOT selling your location just now!!"

I hope at the very least they bring back the whole Crouching = No Blip from Red Dead...

But yeah, being able to just blend in would be awesome.

Perhaps when you reach a 3 Star Wanted Level you will become more visible. I certainly would like to be able to assist the cops when someone is on a rampage.

It would kinda suck if you just hoped in your helicopter and started spamming rockets...but perhaps if you got a "Malndor is on a RAMPAGE!" message at the top of your screen with a "Press Y to bring him to justice" message below it.

Pressing Y would spawn you somewhere near him, with weapons that make sense given his wanted level, inside of a cop car. That way he still has a good chance of wiping you out and if he has a Super Car you're in for one hell of a tough chase.

I think you shouldn't be able to see others blips.

Only exceptions being allies/ friends.

And also random players within a 20 meter radius, but only if they're being loud, running, shooting etc.

Was annoying in RDR, no stealth.

Great idea if you wanna meet someone just call them in-game and ask fro their location , and it'd could be a perfect tool to counter the trolls efficiently

To answer your question, I want you to go to 3:07. This is the first thing that came to mind to check. There has been mention of gun fire creates a certain radius of detection around you, the louder the gunfire the larger the radius.

I checked this video again to re-check and as I thought there's a couple of blips that fade in an out of view on the mini map. So I'm resuming if you aren't firing your blip disappears, when firing it shows. So I am presuming this has to do with something like the 'hiding from cops' effect under a bridge.

I agree. Blips ruin gameplay in every game that has them.

It should do other things in order to bring payers together. For example, imagine you are in a free-roam, and every player gets a phone call to notify them that a certain cargo is in a certain location. You decide to go and steal it, but you also have to survey the area to discern whether there are other players going for it. That unceratainty nd tension would really add to the game in my opinion. That guy over there sitting on the bench... Is that an NPC civilian? Or is it another player who has his eyes on the loot? Why is that car creeping? Is that a hitman who is here to collect that contract that a rival put out on me in my last play session.

A lot of variables like this, adds tension and suspense to the game in a realistic and dynamic way.

Chasing blips around the map is boring.

Maybe if there were 32 players. But blips off in a 16 player freemode on that big of a map? You wouldn't be able to find anyone and it would get very boring to try to find someone on a map the size of gta v. The map would feel empty imo and feel like i'm in a freemode by myself unless i get lucky and find someone. Maybe they should have two different options so players can join blips on games and blips off games but if they had to pick one then it should definately be blips on. I find the idea of blips off freemodes really fun though, I love blips off but it's just the size of the map. What I wish they would do is make it to where if you are far away from an enemy then blips are on but if you come close to medium range then blips would be off that way you get the joy of playing blips off while having a general idea where the enemies are.

One of the ways to solve that is a Map Blip setting. GTAIV had it.

Set Map Blips to Far, that means that so long as you are Relatively Far away you can see a Blip on your Pause Map for every player.

If Map Blip is set to Far and Player Blips (meaning the Blips that appear over your head when your opponent can see you) are turned off you can keep track of where your opponents are within a reasonable radius...but when you start getting up on them you have to actually obtain and maintain visual contact.

Combine that with some sort of blinking or other indicator when Opponents are travelling at high speed near you or firing weapons near you...

Awesome.

Oh yea I forgot about that. Haven't played gta iv in so long. I agree thought, if they made it like that then i would be so happy but blips on is ok i guess.

Brilliant!

I'm really hoping that's how they work it, because I'm DYING to play a game of Manhunt with my friends. Sort of like that Ice Tea movie where Rock and The Vampire from Buffy The Vampire Slayer hunt his homeless sas through the woods? Like that. Or I could've just said running man. But you get my drift.

I just hope servers have the option to turn them on or off. Most people leave the settings as the defaults but some people will actually pay attention to the options and turn them off.

I don't really like the blips either. I'd like it better if just the region of the map shined when someone was in it. That way you have the general idea but it allows for a lot more realistic battles and stealth.

Honestly this is a feature that had made zero sense to me and I believe to many other gamers through both GTA IV and RDR. Why would you show where people were located at all times? If we didn't know where opposing players were it would make for extremely interesting game play. Especially in game modes like death match.

What about Mask. We know there are different mask in the game what if your blip dissapears when you put one on.
