Why do people compare saints row to GTA? I just dont get it!

Hey guys I recently decided to play saints row 4 (presidential edition) in order to keep my mind busy at least until GTA 5 comes out! (btw 8 days left!) I don't get how people can compare saints row with gta?! After just playing half an hour on it I got bored with it. Some stuff that I hated about saints row were:

1) The graphics are just not comparable to the realistic graphics in gta games.

2) There was no story line at all! The beginning of the game was awesome where he was president in the white house and u could make decisions and sh*t but after the Whitehouse got taken over by aliens it just got so boring and was not that fun. I did not get what I was supposed to do in the game. just go kill people or something? GTA has a better story line than saints row. Even injustice: gods among us had an EPIC story compared to saints row.

3) The cars in saints row are just useless and so unrealistic! One reason why I love gta is because of the open world and how the cars look and feel in the game are so realistic!

I did like the weapons in saints row and the shooting mechanics of the game.

I hate how people say saints row is so much better than GTA. It just isn't!!!!!!

What do you guys think of saints row compared to gta?

Because the comparison was valid between GTA: SA, SR1, SR2, and GTAV.

They don't really occupy the same ground anymore, but people refuse to realise this.

almost every open world game will be compared to GTA

especially criminal open world games.

Saints Row 4 went completely left though. They're not even competition

They only compared the first two Saints Row's with San Andreas.

Also, everyone tries to compare other games that are of the same genre. Sandbox in this case, but don't you get sick of the war between the Call of Duty fans and Battlefield fans? Same genre (FPS), but they are still two different games?
Kinda the same with GTA and SR.

People complain about Saints Row because Volition tried to make a better version of GTA....which clearly didn't work.

That's hardly what they were trying to do at all.

Saints Row was a valid game in its first two tries. Then THQ being THQ they just gave up and started doing stupid cr*p when they realized they could do easy money with minimal effort (reminds me of every other THQ game). I won't even go further because, really, I feel sorry that there are people out there who support this kind of thing.

The old Saint's Rows were actually not bad and were a valid comparision with GTA at the time. But SRIII and onwards are simply ridiculous and shouldn't be compared to GTA at all. I'd even rather play the original GTA than SRIII or IV.

Because if you had played Saints Row 1 and 2, you would know it was a GTA clone at first.
SR 4 became total bullsh*t and have changed so much since the first one that it has "its on personality now".. well or no personality anymore I would say.

Fun fact: They have admitted in an IGN interview that they are fans of GTA and wanted to make a better version of it.

because SR came out in 2006 and was the only true gta style sandbox game to come out on the new generation at that point. So from GTASA to SR1, that is why people compare the two and rightfully so. SR2 had many one ups on GTAIV when they came out. SR3 is when SR started to go downhill. SR4 is a fun game, but it is actually more like crackdown than GTA. SR has its roots in GTA style fashion but has since diverted from that formula.

SR4 isn't meant to be realistic at all, the whole game is just a Massive piss take, it's meant to be humerous and over the top (which it is)

I don't know why people compare them, maybe because they both involve killing people, car jackings, open world etc. But still not worthy of comparing.

Also you say all of this while you are comparing the 2 yourself?

Because it was so easy to compare the first two SR games to GTA, but it's not even possible anymore,

I play the first two SR games, but I do not care for the last two, because they are just so stupid now,

I get what THQ was trying to say by it being a "gang member's acid trip" but it's just gone stale for me.

They obviously succeeded since Rockstar lifted a lot of the first game's mechanics for GTA IV. The GPS system, post-mission autosaves, 360 degree aiming from vehicles, and the cell phone mechanic, for starters.

Lol, once V is out, SR IV will drop to about 20 bucks, i guarandamntee it. Can't believe you wasted that much money on a piece of sh*t. I rented and played it and it was trying so hard to be a Mass Effect clone, which isn't even funny anymore.

There just is no comparison to be drawn these days. Basically, when San An dropped and Saints Row 1 came out, you could see the parallels. But GTA has moved into a more mature era, a grown up era. Its writing and gameplay have excelled where some of it's more peripheral elements have fallen away. Some may see these as the 'fun' parts, but I totally disagree with that.

I've recently replayed GTAIV and the DLCs, and had a blast. I've also played through SR3 and I'm currently playing through SR4. It's sh*t. I mean, really, really sh*t. But it's fun. And there's absolutely no parallels between it and GTA other than that it's an open world, city-based sandbox game. Sure, you can steal cars and what not, but they're so far removed from each other, that in no way can comparison be drawn.

Saints Row has found its market - those that were disappointed with IV because it wasn't 'fun'. Personally, the level of detail and depth to the IV era Liberty City give me way more fun than body building, character customisation, property buying, etc EVER gave me in San An. Or any III era GTA. The city is and always will be the star for me, and Liberty was just brilliant. I'll be the first to admit it had its flaws - duplicate peds and cars, etc, but the feeling was great. Scale was upped, scope was upped and the number of different peds was fantastic. I could, have and will walk around that city for hours. Some people don't want that, though. They want things to do, very specific things, that let them carry out the wanton mayhem that San An had.

Steelport, on the other hand, feels dead. The peds aren't funny. They don't do much other than run away screaming or occasionally get body slammed by yours truly. It just doesn't have the depth a game like this needs, so they've filled the world with distractions, mini games and the like. The character customisation options are pretty good and I'm confident what we get for GTAO will far surpass these. But when you've bought all the outfits, heard all the dick jokes and unlocked all the junk, what's left? Not much, other than a fairly weak soundtrack and ever so slightly janky game mechanics.

For me, the move to a more mature world, that exudes a sense of actual life, will always beat a game that just lets you smack people with a big cock or jump up buildings. Saints Row just needs to do what it has already done - give people a fun distraction until superior games come along. And it's done this very well for 4 instalments. I don't see it lasting much longer, though, unless they step it up even further into the ludicrous... but where do you go from dubstep gun-wielding superheroes?

They're 2 very different games that are successful with 2 overlapping markets.

Signatures are dumb anyway.

Saints Row 4 was made by a whole different company. It used to be THQ, it's Deep Silvernow.

Well... both are open world, and both involve crime. Pretty similar if you ask me.

But GTA is on a whole different level.

It's much like any platform-type game ever got compared to Mario, or every head-to-head fighting game got compared to Street Fighter.

It's still Volition making the actual game though. And seriously, there's so little difference between 3 and 4 barring the super powers that they may as well be the same game. It's VERY apparent that this was supposed to be DLC.

Signatures are dumb anyway.

I only played SR because of the customization feature that was lacked in GTA IV. SR got boring when SR 3 came out.
