I'm definitely going to write a review! I doubt I'll be able to give it a 10 because no game will ever be perfect, even if we think it is now because when another game comes out it might seem better

10/10 doesn't make it a perfect game.

Sound - ppl been worrying that ppl will get bored to the soundtrack instantly , but some mexican radio station and punk rock with other dont make it possible.

and about , "you can hear the street light neon buzzing" . damn ambient. Cant wait to be in the wilderness

Graphic - unlike previous R* games in hd era , V seem to be clean graphic. not on top not at the bottom , pleasing

Storyline - not new in this generation but very new to GTA and R* series , 3 protagonist at once.

Mechanic - every hand on preview voicing their satisfaction toward vehicle handling, but bike handling never mention and not even a glimpse show if R* put any touch to bike control . gunplay of RDR and MP3 - dem perfect .

Gameplay - V , not GTA:O , and all written . hmm

Overall - R* still hiding almost 65% of their game content (GTAV alone - GTA:O content not included), look - 6/7 days left. almost 300m cost - wow .

This should be game of our decade/era. It should be.. but.. i give

9.8

, first - after many years in dev , we given very few information . melancholic marketing (the leak make it be like this) . Heartbreaking Delay . To secretive - leaning bad way. im so mad!

Sound should not only be music. It should also be the sound effects like the guns, cars, explosions, voice acting ,surround, and also on how much bass the game has for people with subwoofers.

I expect to give it a 10/10, simply based off of all the information we know right NOW. Even if there are NO new surprises in the game, there is ALREADY enough for me to predict a 10/10.

So far, the game has EVERYTHING I could hope for. Anything I discover after Sept. 17th will simply be icing on the cake.

The ONLY way I could possibly see dropping my score is if I see something that is a huge disappointment. It's possible, but I don't forsee that happening.

For the record, I DON'T think a 10/10 means PERFECTION, but judging from what I've seen so far, I don't see anything to make me start deducting points. This game has already surpassed all of my expectations, while raising my level of excitement.

So, can I make a preview review, telling my expectations for each category? :sarcasm:

Preview review

  • Presentation/Graphics - In all fairness, GTA was never about graphics. Sure, III looked impressive for the time it came out, but since then the main focus has been on the storyline and gameplay, not exactly how it looks. Even IV, despite the city itself being beautifully made, wasn't exactly visually astonishing. With that said, Grand Theft Auto V looks to have some surprisingly good graphics. If something, some textures look to have a considerably low resolution, but hopefully that won't be a game-breaking detail. The city itself looks greatly designed, the map seems to be surprisingly varied, the vehicle models appear to be as detailed as the ones in IV and some of the environments and lighting are pretty reminiscent of Red Dead Redemption, which is in my opinion one of the best looking games for consoles. Bad textures seriously seem to be the only problem in the graphics, something that I'm pretty sure to be solved in the eventual PC release.

  • Sound FX/Music- Rockstar has always done a pretty good job with sound effects, and I'm confident V will be no exception - For what I've heard in the trailers, weapons and vehicles sound consistent to their real-life counterparts. The radio also seems to be, once again, great: Extremely diverse in genres, with both famous and somewhat unknown but still great groups and artists. Honestly, I only fell the lack of some classic California rock, like The Doors, Eagles, Jefferson Airplane, etc - But that is, in my opinion, minor, and doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of the music in the game is well picked and sounds really great.

  • Storyline/Plot/Characters- Another thing Rockstar succeeded most of the times in GTA games is brilliant storylines, and once again they seem to be hitting the spot, especially with three different protagonists. Just looking at each of their individual trailers makes it most certain the entire game will feel completely different between each: Michael seems to be the elder and semi-depressive figure that might present us with the most emotional story around, Franklin seems to be the aspiring hood kid with the most "gangsta" storyline and Trevor seems to be a quite unique and totally deranged psychopath, like Alex DeLarge or The Joker. Also taking in account the trailers, acting for each character seems to be stellar. I'm pretty sure to be in for another RDR-level storyline.
    o7nxnsp.png?1
  • Mechanics- Unlike many, I personally loved driving in IV - I do agree cars did lack some weight, but felt a lot more credible than the 3D era vehicular engine and I found it both easy and fun to maneuver. Sadly, V seems to be backing away from that and appears to be trying to give a more heavy and realistic driving engine, more similar to racing games rather than actual sandbox ones. I'm definitely preoccupied when it comes to that, it might end up being a good change but I guess we'll have to see. On the other hand, they seem to have maintained the boat and helicopter engine from IV, which sounds good, and hopefully they're going to give us a more realistic airplane engine than the one in San Andreas. Another big plus is the shooting mechanics: Most GTA's did felt lacking a good gunplay, not even in IV it felt that good for me, and I'm really happy that they seem to be porting most of it from Max Payne 3. I loved the shooting mechanics in that game, and knowing they will be in V is just great. It's time GTA finally has a TPS-worthy mechanic, and I've been playing a bunch of MP3 lately just to master it the best I can.

  • Gameplay- Rockstar seems to have learned it's lesson with "quality over quantity" when it comes to missions. TBoGT was a perfect example of that, nearly all missions were (Some even literally) over the top in that DLC. Taking in account what they've experimented with in RDR, LA Noire and Max Payne 3, and judging for the trailers and previews, I predict mostly fun, challenging and diverse missions and side-missions this time around. I also can't wait to go around exploring Los Santos and the countryside, and I'm confident that all the vehicles and extra activities will add even more to that experience. Also, character and vehicle customization seems to be deeply developed like never before, and one of the first things I will do as soon as I get some in-game money is to see how far said customization goes.

Overall: Summing it up, it gives 9 stars out of 10, but if the game lives up to these expectations, I'm pretty sure I can leave those small details aside and give it a 10/10.

I want to say it'll get a 10/10 but i don't know, something tells me it will get around 9.5…There'll be something that the reviewers find.

No game is perfect, and tbh if I was expecting V to be a full 10/10, I'd be deluding myself.

There'll be bugs, glitches and annoying bits as with every game ever since the first computer game ever.

I thought IGN (or whoever it was) giving IV a 10 was stupid.

I'll write up a review if I have the time (between uni and actually playing the game, that's not a certainty.) Normally, I dislike review systems like this (where the final score is worked out by averaging/adding up scores in different categories), as I tend to give more weight to some categories than others, but it'll work here, to give some uniformity to the review structures.

I'm most looking forward to reading the first negative review, just to see what they say.

Digging this. I'll definitely start working on my review when Iget the game, but I'm most likely gonna do it about singleplayer only, is that okay? I feel like GTA Online is a different experience altogether and can vary from person to person depending on their actions, singleplayer is at least a bit more structured.

EDIT: Gave it a 9.5 on the poll, I don't think it's going to be either perfect or a masterpiece, but for the record I gave GTAIV an 8.8 for score.

Play it then make this topic again....

Did you not read the OP? I posted this as a sort of heads up that I will be holding a contest for the reviews, and to encourage members to post their own reviews. I wanted to give you guys a heads up so you can keep this in mind while playing.

@Deffpony,

Sorry if it's already been stated. But wouldn't opening this up for reviews on the 27th (one week after the release) make the reviews more realistic and substantial?

Day 1 reviews will largely be over-hyped, biased, and uninformed.

Its a good point man, but there are a few things to consider. Some people are getting the game early, and will feel comfortable writing a review by the 17th or 18th. Also, members should be allowed to write the review as early as they want. If it ends up being nonsense then maybe it will get voted "worst review" come contest time. The hope is that enough members make reviews so that the few bad apples get diluted fairly quickly.

Understood, It would probably generate less interest if you were to postpone it as well. Looking forward to the reviews. Cool thread Deffpony.

Really wanted to say 10, but I think there will be texture pop-ins when transferring characters over long distances so I gave it a 9.5. If that's the only problem, I would give it a 9.75-10.

With idiots at IGN and Gamespot -tom mcshea or something- who deliberately give game lower scores just to get more traffic for their site, it will probably not going to get a full 10.
