Oneima
So i quess that im not the only one that doesnt need GPS while driving around in liberty city.. I literally remember the map from memory. I cant name every street, but if i see a picture of a street, i can tell you where you can go from there and so on.. I really dont remember San Andreas:s map that well, only part of the grove street area. So what do you guys think, how long will you need GPS while driving to a specific place? Will that help if you know San Andreas:s map from memory? My quess is that it wont help. Its a different map. Sure, some parts are propably going to be as they were in san andreas, but the countryside is totally different.
AlmightyD
I think it will be hard on this one because theres alot of mountains and places like that so yeah, not that easy. But anyway i dont really plan on memorizing it.
Jimmy Darmody
I barely know GTA IV map or RDR by memory. I still got to take a look at the map sometimes. Map is 4 times larger than SA, GTA IV and RDR... SO that answers your question
zakir2
Er uh 1 or 2 months maybe. Well I have a sh*tty long term memory so.

vibe92
I've followed the mapping thread from day one, which has obviously been awesome, but the downside of that is that I know where pretty much everything is. Maybe not at street level, but if I see two screenshots I could tell you pretty much how to get from one to the other. I hope this doesn't spoil the game too much, or Rockstar have a few surprises in there to have that 'new discovery' feeling. Liberty City it took me a couple of weeks to get that high level of map knowledge, but that feeling of seeing Star Junction for the first time was incredible

6.3 AMG
I know GTA IV's LC by heart (well almost). But I'm sure, it's going to take years until I remember/know every single spot of the map. It just is that huge. Also, don't forget the underwater areas... It's going to take a damn long while, which is totally tits!
novesori
I know The San Andreas map by heart from roleplaying on SAMP. Same here. I can still remember nearly everything from San Andreas, although the last time I played it was 3-4 years ago. Had much more problems remember for example fast ways to a destination in GTA IV. I highly doubt you, or anyone here knows the map from memory, what you mean is that you know certain parts very well. all the locations needed to enjoy the game the way you play it. I still remember all the hotspots from GTA1 through to IV, and sure as hell will be memorizing all the places I feel will be advantageous to my play style. as well as spawn locations and areas of notable worth. It's always an enjoyment to learn certain routes to and from where you need to go without relying on the map/gps. E•MO•TION
It took me a few days of roaming around Liberty City, but soon I could get around without the aid of a GPS.
fitbikesbmx
A while. I remember when San Andreas came out, it was overwhelming. That was an amazing feeling. I hope it's like that with V, only even more overwhelming.
countrymike84
I'm still learning the map of LC in GTA IV. Last time I played, I walked from north to south in Algonquin but took some time due to the HUD being off.
GTAboob
It won't take me long to get around the city by memory(I mean 5 years in one place takes a toll).... but the rest of the map may take some time.
zzmorg82
Unfortunately, I hardly remember any of the busy streets in GTA IV and I've been playing that game for 4 years now. So I can imagine how V will be.
NYdreamz
i guess that answer depends on how much you play the game... i know alot about liberty city because im usually in free mode just driving around.... i think the only part i dont know well in IV is Alderney cause most the games i join... nobody ever goes there which means im hardly over there as well lol Edited September 8, 2013 by NYdreamz
gwaha
I doubt it will take me long. I have been checking out the fanmade maps too much for it to take more than a few minutes if it will even take me any time at all.
MikeyB
I can find my way around GTA IV pretty easily without GPS. But it's taken years of playing for me to know it so well. I never really got to grips with the SA map and I am expecting V to be difficult too because of the countryside. IV was pretty much all a grid but I did struggle on the parts that were NOT so regimented. I am not in a hurry. It will be 5 years at least before V is replaced so I have plenty of time to learn the areas naturally. SR & SR2 I got to know well, but SR3 & SR4 all a mystery to me even now. I care about GTA so I think it will sink in more than SR.
Coolyfett
Los Santos is going to be hard to learn. It will take a lot of playing hours to learn. It would be funny if Rockstar stopped with the GPS altogether.
Morganthaler
I know the LC map pretty much by heart. I don't use the waypoints at all because they lead you down the "legal" route to your destination, and you can very often get their faster by going the wrong way down a one-way street, or down an alley. It took a long time to really get it down, though. I spent a lot of time in free roam riding a motorcycle down every alley on the map just to see where they all went. The Leprechaun
As some of the others have noted, because of the Mapping thread, I feel I have a good idea where things are. Once I get it, it probably won't take me long to remember reasonably significant areas. Knowing smaller details might take a month or they may never be retained. _Kindled_
Not very long, in my case. I know LC inside and out. Smaher.
differenz
It comes naturally, our brain recognises this sort of stuff, our brains are little pattern recognition machines. After a great deal of playing, I remembered every map from GTA games - coincidentally, I can't remember nothing from Saints Row the third! Also.. as OP said it will be tougher to remember the map because of the mountains? I disagree, I think that with such landmarks and panorama, you can recognise and remember your path more efficient.. remember RDR!
