Foxlogik
I know we have to install the first disk, but does anyone think or know if installing the play disk as well would help with rendering/loading speeds and general smoothness?
Octavio87
Most likely (if its possible) I mean your console will read data from the second disc anyways

tom_p1980
Yes most definitely. It's what I will be doing.
ZombCreations
Yes. It will help your disc drive last a lot longer too because it's only working to verify you're putting in a legit disc. If you don't install, it's constantly reading the disc to play the game.
22ndLegion
I install everything just so it'll be quiet. I'm pretty sure it will load faster, reading stuff off the disc isn't as fast as just going through the hard drive.
StellarFish20
This is good news for me, just recently bought a new 360 Slim with 250gb of memory - So plenty of memory to use up.

Hotrodx199
Yes, it can be beneficial, because i'm pretty sure loading times will be faster since it will read the data stored on the hard drive rather than the game disk.
Cylon
Similar question. I know about the mandatory install on PS3, but I guess the disc will still have to be in the drive? I'm asking because the drive in Slim is just so goddamn loud.
lazloisdavrock
i never knew you could do that with xbox's...... you can do this with every single game yeah ill be doing it. Jenia
Can someone explain me, how install will work? I know, 2 discs, 1 for mandatory and 2 for play, but if I want the full install, what disk I need to insert lol? the 1st or the 2nd? And if I insert the 2nd disc, commonly, the game will run just after inserting, so Im confused (I have xbox 360) Edited September 8, 2013 by Jenia
MintBerryCrunch
I'm gonna be installing both discs. I got 19gb free on my XBox right now which should be enough. If not, then Arkham City or RDR is gonna get zapped! lol
mattfab
I've been told it will be good to install it. I actually just installed gta 4 onto my flash drive last night on my 3 year old Xbox slim. first time ever installing a game. What I have noticed, at least with the slim, that it is very quiet (even though the slim is always quiet, it's just silent now). After a little while of playing, I do notice heat leaving the vent, but I think it's always gonna get a least warm, since it still has to run the game, but the fan on the slim does a good job of removing heat. I find the game runs fairly smooth, a little better than with the disc, but gta v may be different
Bobbyleez
At first I was thinking I didn't want to do it, just for the sake of time thinking I'd get to play faster... But the more I think about it, I'll be doing it too, I've got 109Gbs free.

Let it install 2. After its done eject disc 1 3. Place the play disc in, on the Dashboard press X on the disc. takes you to "Game Details".. Press the INSTALL tile. let it install. theworldfamous
Doubtful actually, I posted a topic about this a while ago. Bandwith is the problem. If it's all on the harddrive, all data will have to get funnelled through whatever bandwith the harddrive has. I think using both disc and harddrive gets you more bandwith, maybe the game is even built with that in mind, seeing as the install is mandatory and all. This was pretty common when PC games shipped on two cd-roms. Also, IV performs worse when installed to harddrive, apparently because the disc has a higher search speed or whatever. IV runs ALOT smoother when installed. All games do in my experience. Installing IV got rid of all my pop in issues. 7200RPM drive FTW

HeavilyArmedX
I know we have to install the first disk, but does anyone think or know if installing the play disk as well would help with rendering/loading speeds and general smoothness? I remember there was a game that I had installed fully onto my 360 harddrive, and it actually made the pop-ins and general frame-rate worse. I'm sure the issue was resolved eventually but this completely put me off from installing games.

It has more to do with how the engine is optimized than the speed of the hardware. It's common in games from that era. but that wasn't my point: disc and harddrive together give you more bandwith

The way installing works is you insert the disk (in this case disk 2 for GTA V) wait for it to read the disk then press Y. It will take you to another screen where you see it say install. You hit that then wait. Bam there you go!
