There are Hollywood films that have smaller budgets than that.... wow.

O.M.G

GTA V IS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN ANY HOLLWOOD MOVIE EXCEPT PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN: AT WORLDS END. IT EVEN BEATS SPIDER-MAN 3

Are you adjusting for inflation?

I wouldnt think inflation matters.... pirates of carribean and spider man 3 arent that long ago

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

-- 2007 = $300,000,000 USD

-- 2013 = $337,986,515 USD

Spiderman 3

-- 2007 = $258,000,000 USD

-- 2013 = $290,668,403 USD

That £170mil is Development AND Marketing ;) Marketing (aka hiring people to hand-paint all those buildings, leasing the advertising space on all those buildings, decaling up buses/trains, the taxes & fees for advertising, etc) cost a lot more then people think it does.

Gran Turismo 5 had a Development budget of $80mil (USD), I'm going to say that GTA:V is somewhere around £100mil in dev costs with the other £70mil going towards advertising and some of that advertising budget comes out of the parent Take2 budget and not the Rockstar one.

$265,778,000 (USD) at roughly $45 per game (let's say stores get $10 & $5 of each game goes towards pressing, packaging & shipping to stores which may or maynot be included in that budget number so Rockstar/Take2 only actually get $45 out of the $60 game) that would take only 5,906,178 copies of the game sold to break even.

You're actually overestimating how much Rockstar and Take-Two get. According to [http://unrealitymag.com/index.php/2011/04/29/how-your-60-video-game-is-chopped-up/, out of a single $60 game only $9 goes to the developer and $18 goes to the publisher. But since Take-Two owns Rockstar, it's technically $27 going to the company that gets split between Rockstar North and Take-Two itself.

That's actually one of the reasons Rockstar is easily able to spend 5 years and hundreds of millions of dollars making a single game: their owners publish the games for them, rather than Rockstar North needing to shop around for a publishing company that takes the biggest share.

Max Payne 3 budget was roughly around 110$ (or more? correct me on any variance to 2k fiscal report)

What does it indicate about V?

A highly budgeted production cost?

Not necessarily as high as the article assumes.

Remember RAGE evolved during Max payne 3 development and it was truly optimized significantly to capture the massive GTA world.

As such R* left no effort in Max Payne 3 to push the engine for the better of all future titles. It was a bunch of a gamble as well

shortcut to the craftsmanship involved in cuting out the corners and limitations of console by the time GTA V is complete.

There are lot of good articles online explaining R* tech development efforts in polishing RAGE and how it can easily build great titles in future with reduced costs that can provide much density in content without hampering quality, just like Max payne 3 which is terrific on all platforms be it consoles or PC and

will likely be the case in GTAV.

The budget in making GTA V may not be that big if you consider that R* has given well over 6 years to achieve what we see today from previews.

IMO R* has managed to cover up initial costs already with Max Payne 3 while GTA V will fill up the losses that unfortunately MP3 could not reach in terms of sales-to-profit ratio.

GTA V will prove a break even point in R* year long investment and patience without a shadow of doubt

IV made $500 million on the first week so they have had the money covered. I wouldn't be surprised if V made $600 - $900 million on the first week.

GTA5 is using Bullet Physics Library what is that

As stated on Wikipedia, it's a collision detection engine for bullets(I think) like bullets fired reacts to collidable objects like walls and stuff

Do am guessing COD has a budget of 30mil or do every damn year, and they break sales record every year!! I wonder how Cod would be like if they had s budget around $200mil!

Btw am guessing! Not much innovation goes into COD, do am assuming budget is damn low!!

Dude, not SOME, ALMOST ALL of Hollywood movies have a much, much smaller budget that this. Only the biggest movies like Avatar and stuff get a budget of a few hundreed millions. The rest are mostly in the range between 10 and 40.

Not sure about the most recent titles, but Modern Warfare 2's budget was around $200 million including marketing. $40-50 million of it was development costs.

GTA IV's $100 million budget was spent on development alone. I don't believe a budget was ever released for it that included marketing costs.

You're being overly literal. It's just a physics engine, like Havok. It's also been used in films like 2012 and Hancock.

I see a GTAV commercial every 30mins on TV, wouldn't surprise me if advertising is included in that figure, didn't check out the link though.

Still a hell of a lot of money! Obviously they'll make way more than enough profit off of it though. Love that, because it allows them to make games as art rather than for income when they are already running on the profit of the previous game.
