CM_Kimmy
Got an email from Rockstar which says unfortunately you can't use a USB to install GTA V on your PS3, and you need to have storage on your console. Dissapointing but i suppose i will have to delete a lot of stuff. Just thought i'd post this as a headsup to anyone thinking of buying a USB (Like i did) in hope that you'll be able to install via that. Be sure to free up any space if you want to install GTA. Here is the email i recieved - Thanks for your email. It will not be possible to complete the install required to play GTAV on PS3 with a USB flash drive, but you will be fine with your 12 GB console providing you have enough free space. Feel free to reach out to our support team at http://support.rockstargames.com if you have any further questions. If you're talking about PS3... so long as you have storage ON YOUR console then you'll be fine. USB won't work though.

CM_Kimmy
Lol.. who cares, it takes 2 minutes to swap a larger drive in your PS3.. just upgrade. The reason i posted this thread was to alert people who didn't know about the situation. It should also be noted that not everyone can afford a HD upgrade on their console. If you're talking about USB flash drive on Xbox, then you can look at it's specifications in the settings. It has to be USB 2.
Ash_735
No one ever said you could use a USB Drive on the PS3 to do the install, the PS3 allows you to replace the hard drive, so if you need more space, just buy a cheap hard drive and throw it into the PS3, sorted. If you have a 12GB PS3, you actually have 12GB, the flash memory is actually 16GB, but 4GB is reserved for formatting and system use, so you get access to the 12GB Direct, which is more than enough for the 8GB Installation of the disc version. You won't be able to download the digital version though as that's 17.2GB.

CM_Kimmy
Yup i really dont understand why you bought a 12GB PS3 and not a bigger one. Because i was on a budget. Not everyone can afford a 200GB

If you're talking about USB flash drive on Xbox, then you can look at it's specifications in the settings. It has to be USB 2.0I use it to install all my games, so it has to be 2.0. Where do I see the speed though? I've never seen a developer say it required 15 mb/s.
Its Mr. V
You can use a USB on the XBox, but on PS3 you can't. How can I tell how fast mine is? I'm terrified right now. You can search for a tool called H2testw. Alternative you can also use CrystalDiskMark. These will help you determine the read/write speed of the stick. kb8618
You can use a USB on the XBox, but on PS3 you can't. How can I tell how fast mine is? I'm terrified right now. Easy. Google your usb stick and check specs, or run a test on your computer to get more acurate readings
