Definitely get rid of it.

On the other hand, I would much prefer the option to "like" certain posts; that way there's still a system for crediting and acknowledging ideas and posts, without the hassle of a ridiculous system people use to measure their e-penis. It just feels tacky.

It really only needs tweaking slightly. Just remove the "Respect counter" and reveal on each post who respects it.

Take it down completely as it's useless and too easy to abuse. We don't need stupid buttons or numbers to respect each other.

The problem with the respect system is that it's easy to abuse. It doesn't have to be removed altogether, but it should be definitely tweaked. For instance, the number under usernames seems to encourage whoring around here, so it's the best to get rid at least of that.

I doubt it's going to last long because people like to break things that are fun.

But! I have to say that the notifications are a great thing. If your respect is seen by you, and only you, I think it'd be more effective.

Or, scratch that - just lose the tally altogether, and just have respect go straight to your notifications.

Or, if that's a stupid idea, and the system is here to stay - what if posts show who respected them? :p

I was part of a forum around a year ago that had pos/neg rep. Needless to say it was extremely abused, anyone that wasn't liked would literally be forced out by constant negative rep, the admins would have like 2000 rep, and the mods would just be repped by people who liked to suck up to us, rep really has no meaning on the internet. It's not reputation but more "nice post have 1 brownie point"

Also the whole rep system is gonna open up a new window for rep whores, kinda like reddit karma whores (People who post fake stories to get karma)

Get rid of it to a certain extent, make it so that we cannot see the number every time someone posts. Change it to something like...

Facebook. It would be nice to see a like feature on posts/topics rather than the respect system. The number of likes would be shown like it is on Facebook and it would only be shown in that specific post.

The most liked posts of the day could then be showcased at some other page to highlight the best posts of the day.

I would say not respecting peoples post but 1 person can specifically respect your profile once and that's them done so it is a true count on how many people respect you rather than individual respect for a post, make a like feature for posts.

Actually, that would be a pretty good idea shoumic :) Either way though, the system will still be abused by people sucking up to others, the most liked posts of the day thing will be completely ripped up by the abusing :/

Respect should be given by staff if you get commended by mods/profile reported to note good deed. It's like the next best thing before awards

I think respect counts should be hidden in the same way our post counts are. And I'd put our reg dates back under our usernames.

The only problem I have with it is that it is an irrelevant feature yet it is still displayed next to everyone of your posts in a big number. If it'd be only shown in your profile I'd have no problem with it. It would also not be as irrelevant if couldn't abuse it so easily.

I'd much rather wave around my neat little -08 than a number that doesn't actually represent anything.

What i wanna know is how some members got +150 respect so quick, are they telling others to increase it for them? or are people just randomly clicking the respect button on other posts?

Post counts are not hidden, they are on your profile (or is this considered hidden to you?). And I agree about the Reg Dates under the usernames, I'd like them to be reincorporated. :^:

Also if you hover the mouse pointer over a user name it tells you how many posts they have, or you could just go to their profile. It isnt excatly a secret in that sense.

Mostly gang members tell other members of their gang to 'Respect+' their posts for them. This is why you would find a few Yardie members with over 100 respect for example.

They only did it as a joke though, nothing to take seriously. This is why this feature should be tweaked.
