Typhus
Okay, let's do this thang: GRIM FANDANGO: A perfect slice of late 90's surrealism. Grim Fandango is just about the most artistic, beautiful, tragic and funny game I've ever played. The soundtrack is unforgettable, the voice acting flawless, the character design instantly striking and the art deco feel of The Land of the Dead almost makes me want to put my head in the oven to see it. In my view? Not just my favourite game, but perhaps the greatest game ever made. SKYRIM: Yes, constant Dragon attacks are a nuisance and I really hate any leveling up and always used my companion to do the actual fighting. But the first time I broke into a woman's home, went down into her cellar and found out that she was a f*cking Vampire will stay with me forever. The world is fleshed out with all manner of creatures, creepy little caves and enough good humour to make you want to keep picking up the controller. METAL GEAR SOLID 2: SONS OF LIBERTY: I don't think any game has ever inspired me quite as much as MGS2. The central story deals with so many issues close to my heart, government control and patriotism and the notion of leaving behind a legacy when you die. The image of Solidus reaching up to the statue of George Washington is forever embedded in my mind as the most tragic moment in any video game I've ever played. LittleBigPlanet 2: Stephen Fry does the voice over. What else do you want? AKUJI THE HEARTLESS: Remember the Platform genre? How characters like Mario and Crash Bandicoot inspired a litany of pretenders? Some of them, I hated, like Fargus in Pandemonium. Some of them I liked, like the uber cute fox-Knight in Kingsly. And some of them I loved, like Akuji - the brutal Voodoo priest who had his heart torn out on his wedding day and had to fight through Hell to get back to his wife. A simple story, ominous soundtrack and truly original artistic vision makes this the pinnacle of grimy late 90's gaming. Mention must also be given to the two behemoths of the fighting genre, Tekken 2 and Soul Blade, that whilst dated still have an incredible darkness about them that has sadly been lacking in their more recent incarnations. Even the soundtrack alone of these games is astounding. Don't believe me? Take a listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRiAEzoGG4c Edited September 6, 2013 by Typhus Adler
OchyGTA
5. Metal Gear Solid A game which holds so many early memories for me. I was still pretty young when it came out and was thus terrible at it, but that doesn't take away from the hours I spent watching my brother play through what I thought was the most realistic game I'd ever seen. Brilliant game and one of the best in the series. 4. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare I can almost hear you all groaning through the screen. This game was by no means perfect but I'd be lying if I said I hadn't sunk days of game time into it. This game provided me one of my first online console experiences and boy did I love it. It was just so much goddamn fun. 3. Red Dead Redemption Is there anything Rockstar can't do? This is arguably one of the best games of the generation in both storytelling and game-play mechanics. Rockstar created an incredibly expansive world through intriguing characters, beautiful scenery and probably the best storyline in a long time. 2. Assassin's Creed The original game in what is now one of my favorite franchises. I got this game in a bundle back when the PS3 was first released and wasn't actually that interested in it at first. I only played it when my brother convinced me that I should give it a shot and once I loaded it up for the first time, I was in love. Ubisoft created one of the best looking games on this generation in Assassin's Creed and I think it's testament to how a good a game it is that I still have it, despite not owning a PS3 in years. 1. GTA IV There's a reason I'm a member here. I honestly believe that this was the best GTA game to date. I feel it gets a lot of undeserved hate from people who are annoyed that it wasn't like San Andreas but I think that was a good thing. IV was a real nitty, gritty crime game with a fun and interesting story. The supporting cast often supplied the humour that I expected from Rockstar but the game didn't ever betray the serious story which it was trying to tell, for which I am glad. It's a possibility that I've sunk more hours into this game than any-other, including screwing around online with friends and rampaging through the streets in single player. I think it's the greatest game of all time although that opinion is open to be challenged in a couple of weeks... Honorable mentions GTA Vice City: That soundtrack Civilization V: One of the best games I've played and own on PC

RoadRunner71
1. World in Conflict. I love the ambientation, an hypothetical Soviet-US & Nato war in 1989. The graphics and effects are awesome for being a game of 2007 and has incredible details. Another important point is that they didn't do, like in many other games, the Soviet the bad guys and the Americans the heroes, but they show the horrors of the war and that after all, in both bands, the soldiers are also humans and have their families, visions of the war and so. Last, unlike the games nowadays, from time to time they added new maps (fan made, since it came with modding tools or officials) without having to pay. 2. Assassins Creed 2. I've spent countless hours playing that game. The story, gameplay and especially, scenery and atmosphere, were beautiful. Shame about the milking that began after the next one. 3. GTA series. That's why I'm here;) 4. Bad Company 2. I had a lot of fun with a good friend of mine playing it 5. Driver Parallel Lines. The modern part of the game sucked, but the 1978 one was quite good. The big map of NYC and NJ, the vehicles and its sounds and hud, and the sublime soundtrack made my first "GTA-alike" a great gaming experience. cactus.
1. Golden Eye - countless nights spent with friends playing multiplayer and it never got old. Single player campaign was fun and memorable too. I've never been one to enjoy FPSers, but this game was special and has stuck with me ever since. 2. Contra - Pretty much the perfect side-scrolling shooter. I remember making it to the final boss of this game was such a big deal. It's aged well too, just last year a friend and I got to playing this on the emulator and had a blast. 3. FIFA soccer games - gotta show 'em some love. Been playing every iteration of the game since FIFA International back on the Genesis (that game still has the best fouling animation of any soccer game to date - the one where you can shove somebody to the ground and then the victim proceeds to roll around in agony. It's awesome. Modern soccer games deserve that kind of stuff). They've come a long way and I've had a blast playing almost all of them. 4. GTA San Andreas - what exactly can I say about this game that you don't already know? 5. Metal Gear Solid - thank god I made myself play this about two years ago. I knew I was getting into something special, but I was then blown away. Everything about it is pretty much perfect: the music, the characters, the boss fights are all so memorable and fitting. And it has what I believe to be the most badass intro of any game; I'll often watch it on youtube just to get that feeling like I'm playing it again for the first time.
