I left the chat recently because the lack of any progress was frustating but uh, you kinda got tricked, fella.


The guy that asked you doesn't even know the devs, and the devs are too busy with IRL sh*t to check the chat nowadays, and voice acting is on hold, but that was spoken ages ago so I can't blame you for being confused.

Anyone know Rockstar's stance on modding the DE games?

I see opportunities but before time and effort are spent, I want to know the rules.

 

Really wishful thinking here but imagine R* provides modding tools as is common for games that run on Unreal Engine. I have some experience with Unreal Editor and we also happen to have a lot of assets that could be ported relatively easily. Half of our work was never shared with the public and being among the first to drop a major TC for the new games would be awesome. Of course unless we end up getting punished for it!

i dont think they will bother take down any mods for the DE, (unless its hot coffee 2.0) but i do think rockstar is going to make it their mission to make these games as unmoddable as possible through the engine and the rockstar launcher auto updating. It might still be worth it to continue working on the original version mods

Not only there's no reason not to considering how much work has been put into this so far, but also it's probably gonna be common knowledge that the "OG" gta games are what you're gonna be able to have mods for, and even if rockstar takes them off steam, there'll be other ways to get around that to get them.

yes, played the whole thing with classic axis, silent patch, widescreen fix and some more mods three times without problems.

play this with Second Wave mod and Vice City Big Mission Pack v1.3.6  all work, that mods only main.scm and text files replace

Does anyone know what is a method of changing vehicle sound in VC?

 

For example, I want to make Infernus sound like Cheetah (like in VCS)...

 

I opened sfx.sdt file but I couldnt find vehicle id's or any lead...

What connects sound and individual vehicle?

Imagine a community that promotes "new and upcoming" mods, instead of putting up abandoned projects front and center.

 

Gtaforums is such a poorly managed forum in regards to grand theft auto modding.

Maybe rather than reaching out in the Discord channel, I should have tried my luck here... The reason why there has been little to no progress on the coding side of things is because I'm just terrible at writing characters and especially coming up with dialogue. BEGINit wrote pretty much the entire dialogue and with Braindawg's help, we refined all of it to our best abilities. He also has a good feel for that kind of thing, contrary to myself.  I've spoken on this issue a while ago in the Discord channel.

 

I am still willing to code and continue work on the project if someone helped me with the writing. I just lack the creativity to do it well, especially after my 9-10 hour work shifts. I'd be willing to provide all the details but I need to be convinced that whoever helps out is qualified and commited.

 

I'm curious to see if the community is still involved in mods as much nowadays and although I doubt anything will come of it, I want to suggest something. If anyone knows someone that is a good writer or is talented themselves, please leave us a post with some dialogue for a generic mission concept of your choice.

 

With a solid writer on the team we would be able to actually finish the mod.

Damn... I really wish I could help. I've been practicing writing myself but I'm not quite there when it comes solid dialog. I hope you find that writer you need.

Well damn I mean you put focus on bloat like all cars being replaced and interiors yadda yadda instead of what really matters. This mod is one sad example. It could have been great but so far it's a slog with a meh story. I wrote up a few GTA stories and concepts myself and even those set in VC are not just rehashing the VC story all over.

IMO the story post-demo is actually pretty good. The plot is sorted but there's no dialogue to establish it. We had people on the team who had a feeling for characters. I can write up a mission and tie it into the story but coming up with the lines is just not something I enjoy doing. It's not particularly difficult but that was never my main role or what I was focused on from the beginning.

 

*edit: you guys are missing the point. The problem isn't the inability to come up with the story/mission objectives. Well then hit me on Discord and give me a layout of what you need, the story in itself, what the mission is about and the personality of new characters. I can help, seriously. I rewrote the entire script of Forelli Redemption and Frosted Winter for myself and been writing fanfics/GTA concepts with dialogue since ages. Not like I'm trying to brag but I just wanna lend a hand, this mod is being worked on for far too long and I think everyone would want it to be finalised than what you got so far. I mean look at 1826, this man made an entire story TC for GTA3 in under one year and he went solo.

I think sometimes, we need to sacrifice "solid" writing just to complete something. If you want to finish this mod right now, you might as well just try your best with writing the rest of the story, get it scripted sacrifice a few promised (?) features and then get it out the door. I feel it's time to give the people what they want, if you are still up for it. Plus, like Jeansowaty said, he can help! He's really amazing at what he does.

Howdy,
I would pointing out how much patient Shine O' Vice fans had been in all these years, if this project is for them, for us, then dialogues doesn't have to be perfect but near to functional, after all not even Vice City had very deep characters or meaningful dialogues only top notch voice acting and funny jokes (well, it's not a kids play to deliver funny jokes either).

 

So in this occasion of renewed opportunity i would suggest just two things: ask for help whenever it's needed  (here on GtaForums the better, Discord is overwhelming most of the times) and add a deadline, seriously folks add atleast a first deadline, even more than one, sometimes "released when it's ready" isn't always the right approach, because by that way you're dealing with a risk, the risk of never see SOV completed. 

 

let's say for example the 20th Anniversary of GTA:Vice City that is October 29th 2022, for that date you folks have to manage to release a 2° demo, this demo will be available only to people OUTSIDE the project that are willing to test, give appropriate feedback overall, all in all a "quality check" then from there start filing and smoothing to the final release.

 

I wish the best of luck, take the bull by the horns, fellas! YEEEEE HAww!!

 

P.S.
I'm willing to volunteer to test the 2° demo and give feedback (if this approach is taken into consideration).

It's because we know Take-Two monitor these forums, that's why most big projects went quiet or packed up and left. Sadly if you're working on a big project with a huge following then posting about it on GTAForums is near enough a deathwish these days.
