Nice mod! This seems to get even more awesome than frosted winter!

For the people who cant wait please keep in mind, the more the devs focus on their real life and just continue work when they like it and make brakes to get new ideas/solutions/motiviation the better the mod will be :santa: posting proposals/support and feedback(if needed) will get this mod faster out:

what's up guys?

 

Lots of work happening behind the scenes... The original mission script I have recieved from BEGINit is quite large. By now, I've proceeded onto editing the 6th mission and I am now very happy with all the missions up until this point. Just to clarify once again what I'm doing - I'm going over each mission in the SCM, fixing what doesn't feel quite up to standard, occasionally mixing in new concepts of my own, rewriting parts of the dialogue, and filling gaps in the story narrative.

 

Once I've gone over just below 30 missions, I will proceed to troubleshoot stability problems, and plan out porting the visual assets and this simplified SCM onto a clean install. I will transfer all cars but only the selected parts of the map that are actually made use of throughout story progression until then. If we're able to resolve the saving bug and minimize random crashes, I'd really want to discuss a potential beta release for SoV with BEGINit. It could be 'the first chapter' because the main story only truly unfolds after this point. These first 30 missions mainly focus on Flint gathering information and contacts to get a clue of the events that actually took place prior to his arrival. What do you guys think of this idea?

Well, I'm fairly certain you've seen most of the cars in this topic over the years. The one exception that comes to my mind is the final version Stierlitz's High Roller/Savanna (which is very nice!). The situation with cars will be addressed in the near future too, the same way the team is currently revising map changes. There's a around 10-15 cars that I love in this mod, but a good 5-8 that I absolutely despise and want gone (ironically, the majority are my own). The rest kind of fall in-between and will be improved, not replaced. This will make room for better models and potentially some masterpieces that Blue made for SA will could find their way into SoV! Let's harass him to get on with those bodymaps and bring us his Bullion and the Volpe!

 

Hope that gives you guys an idea of how things are going in development currently.

I really hope that the cutscenes are more than just those generic talking anims, like Frosted Winter

 

if anything since theres no voices, the cutscenes should look more fluid and even though you cant do mocap like GTA does, you could possibly make new anims just for cutscenes

About that: since Kalvin got himself banned in a roulette thread, he can't post this here.

 

He's experimenting with creating custom cutscenes. I talked about that with him and we thought a Stories approach is a good idea. Basically, we won't have a cutscene for ALL of the missions. Some early and final ones, along with important scenes in the middle should feature some cutscenes. Here's a test of one for the intro cutscene.

 

And obviously, Flint will appear on later revisions.

For those who are curious about the song, it's called "Shine Shine Shine" by Mania. Will it be included on a radio station? Also, will there be a "fade-in-fade-out" animation upon entering an interior, like in the original Vice City, or will the new interiors be always open, without any animations when entering?

Depending on how things go and if my list is appreciated by all, I'd also love to have it ingame. I'll share said list eventually here.

 

As for interiors, they're currently just placed in the world like GTA IV, no transition at all. No idea if this will be changed.

It is going to be similar to how it functions in the original game. BEGINit already implemented a system for this but it still needs some sorting out.

That cutscene test looks great! Was wondering what route you'd go with cutscenes, even the slide show route of Chinatown Wars could have been a possibility (yet very time consuming!) so this looks ideal...and loving that music haha!
Keep it up guys, really looking forward to this. :)

The whole scene is still an early draft. We might still decide to keep Shine Shine Shine for it. The most important thing is a song that fits the scene well.

 

The intro has Flint, who just arrived in Vice City, walk to his hotel room. The weather is rather bad and he's about to go to his brother's funeral. Shine Shine Shine might be slightly too upbeat for that. I'm down on keeping it as the launch trailer song. I think there still needs to be a lot more thinking for the intro song.

 

Also it's just Kalvin experimenting with different songs to see which fits best. Don't worry.

I advise not to use Tommy model for animation. Use final model, or at least model with final body proportions. Or you'll got lots of problems with anims in the future. Edited by Shagg_E
