Here's the deal with the story - we are, as a matter of fact, making a completely new story. BEGINit left nothing for us to "scramble together" even if we wanted to. The reason why we are still using Flint as a main character is because (if Braindawg provides it) we have player models & outfits of the character. It would be pointless to rename him if he looks the exact same as the character in BEGINit's SoV, if that ever sees the light of day.

 

I like the prologue so we are sticking to it. We are using our assets and creating missions to suit those. My main concern is for the mod to feel like an authentic Rockstar experience. I don't want any botched cutscenes, so I must spend significant time polishing code myself. I hate to bash BEGINit's FW, but many missions had a flat and repetitive structure; drive there, kill this guy, pick up that car... In that respect, his work on SoV seemed far more promising.

 

deltaCJ is a solid coder but it will take much more effort to keep up the standard. When he mentions that the "first beta mission will be released soon", I question that as I don't see us releasing each mission one by one, with chunks of the map, to you guys. I want at least 5-10 missions before any beta containing important assets is uploaded and released. That being said, he can share his code, but the alpha script and respective models will only exist for the team until we reach a significant milestone.

I'm trying to create a mission scenario considering the scripting possibilities of the original game. But my new job f*cks my brain and free time a lot, so as I said, don't count on me much, I'm just giving it a try.

I have made a artwork poster,based on the malibu club.I don't know about the protag's looks,otherwise would have done a character artwork.

The .xcf file will be uploaded tomorrow incase any changes are needed to be made,It measures a massive 38 MB.

Imo you should make some artworks that aren't traced from screenshots. Or at least do it to where it doesn't look like a basic trace job.

Well I am not able use print screen nowadays(dunno the problem).I planned for using camhack and create nice photo graphs of various landmarks around Vice.But well,I am waiting for the info about official protagonist models and photos,so I can make character artworks. 😁

I hope there are some american fans of criminal movies from the 80's. The dialogs in the mod should feel alive and somehow sarcastic in GTA way, not mentioning the grammar...

Any artworks, sound effects and miscellaneous stuff like that should be focused on later in development... Right now the team is trying to develop some sort of script for the story. The team doesn't need any outside help as far as I can tell at the moment, unless you can script. Please stop with the unnecessary "contributions".

But wait...gta VI will come out maybe in Vice City and we will forget about this

I am sorry but this is the truth.If the next gta will be in vice city then this mod will be forgotten so fast cuz nobody will play again the old one
I know it's not your guys fault, don't worry.You waited like I did for BEGINit.but this is life :(

Fun fact, this mod was started before even GTA IV was released :D [at least a very early iteration of it]

 

Anyway, don't worry. It's not like the people behind this mod is working on it fulltime. So please don't make it a chore for them. It's much better for it to be a product of love, rather than rushed mess, just because you demand it.

We've had a massive set back due to BEGINit's abandonment of the project. I completely agree that GTA Vice City is aging and our mod is definitely not getting any more relevant as the time passes. Nonetheless, I have to stress that we have just entered a new stage of development involving the recreation of the entire script, which makes up for more fifty per cent of the overall progress. We could have just abandoned the project, as nobody has access to BEGINit's script and probably won't anytime soon, if ever.

 

At the moment, competent and active team members are working on the script and progress is being made at arguably a faster rate than ever before. I promise you a Beta of the alternative version of this mod in the next couple of months as we are busy working on this at the moment. This version of SoV is worked on independantly of BEGINit, as like you, we are tired of waiting on him. Don't complain about this here, you can forward your comments directly to BEGINit's inbox :)

Here, we can discuss progress leading up to the release of the alternative version of SoV, unless BEGINit surprises us, and a release of the original SoV comes around quicker (which I doubt will happen).

 

Long story short, a new release is planned and the mod is actively being worked upon. I can post a video demonstration of an early mission, which is being improved as I type.

Yes. Everything we have shown in this topic thus far, with exception of the occasional content by BEGINit, will be featured in this version.

It took some time for us to get organized and get things moving again. The story has been tastefully and competently reimagined by Braindawg and now, instead of relying on one person to create missions and test them, the coding task is split between deltaCJ and myself. The rest of the team is involved in this process too so I cannot imagine the alternative version being anyhow inferior to what we've been expecting from BEGINit (taking Frosted Winter as an example).
