I'm in my 40's. When I was a kid, there was nothing out there like GTA. So I want to ask, for those of you who did play when you were pretty young (Some of you were under ten?? holy moly)--- What was it like? Did you understand it very well? Has it affected your levels of real-life aggression and etc.? I have kids, and when they were younger I didn't play GTA or other 'mature' games when they were around, due to the swearing and violence and sexual stuff. Kids should just be kids for awhile, there's still the rest of life to get to all the rest of it. Reading through these forums, seeing the rudeness, ignorance, and negative attitude in many of the seemingly younger posts, I'm not so sure that growing up so fast is such a good thing. I'd like to hear your take on it, if you would.

I'm 18 and I played gta vice city the day it was released. I felt like I understood it pretty well but with the way I was raised I understood a lot of things I shouldn't have at that age. Like a lot kids all I wanted was to be a adult more than anything and google was my best friend then XD. When people asked me if video games affected the way I thought and if I wanted to do bad things I always felt pretty insulted actually. I also managed to turn out a pretty crappy teenager for a long time and paid a price for it. I can't decide if it was the game or just my home life. More than you than you cared to hear. Yeah I didn't believe it was influencing me but f*ck was my favorite word in middle school for sure. I guess WE WILL NEVER KNOW IF IT REALLY DOES. I'm only one in a million XD

There is nothing "legal" about it. There are no laws saying minors cant play M rated games. it's sort of the same with cigarettes no one is really going to arrest you for smoking them but for cigarettes you cant buy them under 18.

Kids with cigs are illegal enough for tickets and court appearances. Had it happen to friends while I was walking with them, undercovers rip to the side of the road, check ID, and hand my friend a nice slip of paper.

I blame the parents, Its amazing how so many users are playing games like these when they are so young and of course this is just a small minority of the actual number of underage/under educated players.

No wonder the world isn't what it once was, GTA games are 18+/ R Rated for a reason, Sadly some parents are too dense in the head to understand such things. Do I think GTA games cause violence and things in real life f*ck no, But exposing youngsters who wont have even had sex education at that age to things like this is just plain moronic.

Edit: Please excuse my language, Luckily some of the children wont know what the F word means.

18. Started playing III at 6. LOL. My friends older brother had it on PS2. Later on my other friend who was older got vice city as well. I then went on to buy all the top down gtas, then the vc and III pack, and then SA, IV, so on

20 now ...but yeah I played all the previous GTA's when they releasd and were clearly underage biggrin.gif . Though since I am not mentally ill or anything, I grew up just with GTA's and other games through previous consoles since 8bit ones.

22 here, dabbled in GTA I-II in the late 90's, but didn't really like them all that much, I was more of a C&C fanatic back then. Really got into GTA when I was 10 with III.

18, been playing since Grand Theft Auto: London on the PC (very long time ago, barely remember anything of it). I'd say I was about 4 when I first got a taste of GTA (in small doses, couldn't play long). But I'd say playing violent games at that age didn't affect me growing up. And I don't think, at the time, that I understood what was happening in the game, but it was fun to play. Not once in my life have I ever thought "they did this in GTA, let's do it in RL!" (Because at that age, I still understood that it was just a game, and you don't do those things in real life. Not to mention my parents reminding me of exactly that all the time).. I consider myself to be a pretty mellow, nice, and laid back person though, and I've had many friends describe me with those qualities. Idk I hope I answered your question.

Not entirely. I played it when I was really young but my grandma (who I lived with) never knew. I would go over to my friends house to play on is ps2 which my grandma didn't even understand what that was (shes literally that lady that still calls my xbox a gameboy) And for the other kid? He stole his copy from his older brother who was in his early 20's I believe. Kids can be sneaky little sh*ts even if they are sheltered. I wasn't actually allowed to go to the mall alone until I was a junior in high school and my parents were those parents who send you to boot camp. (been there done that). Basicly you just can't expect them to be all knowing. Sure there are a lot of terrible parents but a lot try their best. Kids have to take responsibility for their own actions at some point. I sure as hell knew I wasn't suppose to be playing that even when I was that young and I made that choice.

Sorry, rant over XD

38.

Can't brag with playing GTA underaged.

But hey I was way too young when I saw Nekromantik, Cannibal Holocaust or I spit on your Grave.

There were few controversial games for C64 like Custor's revenge, Catch the sperm, Stroker etc. No one knew though if they were 18+ or no, it was all demo scene and floppy copying smile.gif

I am 22.50 years of age, and have proudly upheld a devout 'Grand Theft Auto' tenure since 2003, the likes of when said tenure debuted with Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. I was a ripe 12 years of age at the time and had become instantaneously enthralled with the caliber of freedom that Vice City offered. smile.gif The functionality to bailout of a vehicle, continuing in motion, was undoubtedly the catalyst of much laughter, as was exclusively and mercilessly ramming the Kaufman cabs.

Unmistakably, the most dreaded side mission to undertake for me, was 'Paramedic'. smile.gif Such nostalgia. Thereafter, the progression is as follows: Grand Theft Auto: III, San Andreas, Vice City Stories, IV and now the holy grail of Grand Theft Auto: "the-in-game-commercial-was-stellar" V. biggrin.gif
