MajesticJazz
Aside from Grand Theft Auto, another franchise I loved has been the midnight club racer games. I never got around to playing MC1 cause I didn't have a PS2 at the time, but when MC2 came out for the Xbox, I was hooked. I enjoyed Dub Edition and MC: LA. However, it seems that the MC franchise has been put on the sideline or even discontinued by Rockstar. Many previews about GTA V have said that aside from the large list of vehicles, the customization is on par with what we see in the Midnight Club series, if not even better and more in-depth. Additionally, it appears that street racing would play more of a role this time around than it did in GTA IV as Franklin is the "car enthusiast" and has the car slow mo special ability (which I believe was in Dub Edition). Street racing is a more prominent mini game this time around, we can own cars this time which puts more emphasis on the idea of customizing them. Then there is GTA Online which allows us to create our own races by great detail such as tracks, time of day, weather, and even soundtrack. With all that being said, do you think that the street racing in this game (single player or online) would be so deep that it could alone be considered a spiritual successor to Midnight Club: LA? I do not know if Los Santos would be the same size as LA in Midnight Club but then you also have the countryside. While GTA V in general is about heist and making money, there really is no story regarding the street racing aspect as it is just a "mini-game" or side activity in the same way tennis and bike riding is. However, do you think it will enough depth to it to be in some aspects, the spiritual successor to MCLA? Midnight Club: LA GTA 5:
anon164327
I also love midnight club. Too bad the they never fixed the online freezing problem. Your entire console would become unresponsive and you had to restart the whole system.
Hover_Mode
I did get that impression from the Gta:Online Trailer. The driving looked very Midnight Clubbish... ahhhhhhh does Gta V haves downgraded driving mechanics? sure Ive played(and beat) Midnight club but GTA IV's driving would of made the game 10x more enjoyable. Alot of people complained over GTA IVs realistic driving after coming from the quick get up of San Andreas cars(I am guilty of this as well). but I think over time people began to realize the driving in GTAIV was smooth as hell. View the cop chase cam, you will see what I mean. All in all what good is this talk, the game is already printed, or being printed..I just hope I'm wrong about Gta Vs driving. Echolex
I was certain this was going to be yet another mentally painful to read topic about how "arcadey" the driving physics look and how worried you are it's not going to be as boat-like as it was in IV I am so f*cking glad this is not the case thank you OP OT: I don't know about that. There's going to be a heavy focus on it and there will be elements taken from the series, but I don't think it can straight up trump the series that is solely focused on it. Besides that the driving is going to be much, much, more realistic than the MC series, since MC are arcade games.
ivarblaauw
Rockstar's Midnight Club is now created in GTA V. Gta V features everything from Midnight Club, so you can actually say that you get two games for the price of one. Wait... 3 games... GTA V, Midnight Club: San Andreas and GTA Online. ALL IN ONE! TiggerThaWigger
Good topic. That's one of the things I'm most excited about, the racing/driving aspect of the game. Because I personally think its going to be great, Rockstar won't let us down on something so vital to the game. I mean the whole them of the game is realism, so I'm positive the driving mechanics will be on par with the theme. I'm not sure how racing will be involved in the story but it will be a big part of the game.

Gnocchi Flip Flops
When it comes to the repossessing, vehicular customization, and the street racing aspects of the game it starts to feel like what I'd call a Midnight Club: Los Santos. Hopefully Rockstar used that one team, that did Midnight Club: Los Angeles, to help out with the car related part of GTA V -- with the exception of the handling, lets just keep it IV style please. My hopes are that there is even more customization options than what has been confirmed; I wanted decals/vinyls -- seriously Rockstar has a lot of fictional company logos that could be used on cars-- hydraulics, suspension raising/lowering, a variety of bumpers and rims, and maybe even interior customization. Wouldn't it be cool to add gauges, change the seats, remove seats, change the interior colors, and remove materials for a bare, more lighter car? We already can add bull bars similar to what was found in the Sultan RS. The racing in single player should be harder and more varied as well. I hope there are pink slip challenges and important AI characters specifically for the racing part of the game.
