GovtPatsy
I was recently thinking about how GTA V could have just been a next gen release. The way they're doing now I would have to pay for both Xbox live and PSN to continue to play GTA Online and I would have liked it to be on the next gen to avoid paying two subscriptions. Any thoughts as to why GTA V is being released for current generation consoles? Do you think it will be released for the next gen at a later date? Fail_At_GTA
The current gen market is obviously a much bigger market than the next gen market. Also that means it could have come out 2 months later as well.
Paper Mario
I hope they will not waste time on making GTA V a next gen title. There wouldn't be too many differences anyway besides more fancy graphics.. I want them to focus on their new game, possibly GTA VI! A true next gen focused game! jamieleng
Because they'd like to make a profit after 5 years developing the game.
helresa
I also suspect it will take some time to port the rage engine over to the next generation consoles and that would have pushed the development off a lot. Also the new consoles weren't announced and a number of years work has already been spent on the current version and to redo that work would no have been cost effective, and they would be dependant on the sales of the new systems. d3ex2
Well, about 130,000,000 people own a PS3/360 and 0 people own a PS4/One. It'll stay that way until November. GTA V is out September. But seriously, more money. Plus, Rockstar are very comfortable and familiar with current gen hardware and obviously feel it can do everything they want it to do. I hope they do release a next gen version alongside PC version but if they don't no big deal.

Rock Howard
Because GTA V is a game being released on CURRENT GEN. Plain and simple. There will be plenty of time for future GTA games to be released on next gen.
willstaruss123
Why waste a rushed project for gta5 for 2014 when they can create a better looking gta 6 by 2016? If its in Vice City it would be gorgeous.
RichyB
Firstly because it's been in development for 5 years so next gen wasn't even being thought about then. Secondly, they will release it on next gen. But the cost of making a game for 5 years is enormous and they need to saturate the market for this gen before they move on to selling next gen. They're doing it absolutely right.
TheRealBars
Porting it over to XB1/PS4 should be incredibly easy. If a PC version gets released, PS4 and XB1 will follow, the hardware on those things are identical to what they use in many gaming PCs.
voyager
how would you like to work on a game for 4 years, then hear from sony & MS that "oh yeah btw we've completely changed all the hardware" would you like to wait another few years while they migrate the game? it might not be so hard to port the current-gen game to the next-gen system, but it'll still be a current-gen game not taking advantage of the new hardware capabilities. compared to games designed for next-gen, it'll look like butt and not do half of the things it could have been capable of if it was developed for the better system. not to mention how much larger the customer base is for current gen, considering next-gen titles are limited to people shelling out 10x the price of the game for a brand new console in the first few months of its release. they can sell easily 30x as many copies of the game in the 4th quarter on current gen. And like most games the game will be running on PCs already to make development 100x simpler. I don't think they'll announce next gen version until next year but it will happen. S1LV3R_W0LF
They thought about it, and don't worry the game will be out for those platforms few months after the current gen release. All this talk about how great current gen is, that they don't need Next Gen and will be fine for many years is bullocks. Also RAGE already works on Next Gen aka Max Payne 3 PC.
