18GB on PS3. Why only 15 on Xbox?

Why is the Xbox Version 2-3 Gigs smaller? I mean thats a lot of missing files I guess. Unless they managed to compress them way better than on PS3

They use different compression processes. Nothing is different of missing from the game.

Considering the space on a bluray they don't need to compress the files as much.

Compression, The PS3's Bluray disc doesn't require the level of compression the Xbox's disc does, Don't you worry your head, Nothing will be different.

They don't have to compress as much on the PS3 because of their blu-ray. That's all.

Why are people saying it won't make any difference.

 

2gb difference in an 18gb game is quite a lot.

 

They are squeezing out 2gb of audio fidelity and image clarity. It WILL be different.

 

 

If the extra compression made no difference then they would compress the same on both platforms surely.

 

They must think the extra compression is detrimental otherwise they wouldn't have chosen NOT to compress so much on the PS3.

Like everyone has said....

 

Rockstar have to make the game fit on 2x DVDs so they need to compress it down. Blu ray has a higher capacity so they don't need as much, if any, compression to get it to fit.

 

If anything they've just changed the format of audio/video files to take up less space.

Why bother compressing something when there is more than enough space for it to fit? DVD-DL's have a maximum size of 8.54 GB (7.96 GiB). Also, digital downloads are usually much larger in size than the amount that can be stored on the console from off the disk. So, the actual file on the PS4 disk could in fact be the same size and compression ratio as the 360 version. We won't know until we actually have the disks in our hands.

Audio Files NEVER get compressed in any game. You cant compress Audio files without making them sound like sh*t.

PS3 is bigger because of uncompressed LPCM audio (24 bit 96 KHz audio), where as 360 is stuck with compressed Dolby Digital audio (16 bit 48 KHz audio).

Why do you think Rockstar is only showing GTA V on the PS3?

 

All of their gameplay trailers and reveals, have been on the PS3.

 

This means that GTA V runs best on the PS3. That extra content is probably to enhance performance even further.

I'm not really shocked at what I'm about to expect before I click a thread where a comparison between XBOX and PS3 is warranted.

Anyway, smart person here, it's most likely the TV Video files again, they were bigger on the PS3 version (even bigger than the PC version infact!) which caused an extra 2GB of space to be taken up, if they've done the same this time, it's most likely that. Nothing different gameplay wise, or texture wise, etc, they're the same, only the audio was less compressed on PS3 (using 44.1Khz ADPCM instead of 32Khz ADPCM) and the BINK video files were a lot less compressed and had both better image and audio quality.
