Is it being dark all the time when I played GTA IV online daytime was way to short and seamed like night would last way longer even when I would set up a match to start in the morning next thing you know it's dark again I hated that just wish you can turn the cycle off

I feel you, yeah daytime feels surprisingly short..

I don't know about GTA V, maybe it will be a bit longer or maybe it will be the same.

Both night and day are interesting visually sooo can't tell.

I'm concerned that GTA IV was very dark even in a big city, Christ knows what it will be like in the countryside of V in the middle of the night.

Pitch black unless they've sorted it.

I think nighttime will look cooler in gta 5 than daytime, but gta 4 is always dark so it would seem as if there's barely any daytime in liberty city except for brief moments.

lolwut?

For the time of year GTA IV was set in (fall), there was an unrealistic number of daylight hours. Sunrise at 5 and sunset at 9. Oh please... sigh.gif

I have timed the night cycle in GTA IV before:

19:15 Streetlights turn on

20:15 Sunset

22:15 Actual darkness (no light from sun)

05:30 Sunrise

So there's approximately 7.25 game hours (14.5 minutes real time) of darkness.

Time it for RDR it should be something like that

I hope the nights in V looks better than in RDR which were way too bright. Luckily the screenshots seems to indicate they do.

Well you have to consider that GTAIV was dark and murky to begin with. I don't know what time of year this game is supposed to take place so who knows how long the days will be. Hopefully they find a balance.

I hated the fact in GTA IV it was always dark as well, but with this game being in the beautiful California, I think whether it's Day or Night it will look amazing and be fun to play!

Gotta love Cali weather!

At nighttime there's this thing called the moon which can brighten up a night sky sometimes... For god's sake, Trevor was howling like a wolf at the damn thing in his trailer. Don't worry man! Nighttime will look gorgeous in this game. Take Red Dead Redemption for example...

The moon isn't always visible every single night also sometimes these things called clouds get in the way.

I hope the night is a LOT darker in this game. I still play San Andreas online quite a bit and those nights were basically daytime it was so bright. GTA IV nights looked pretty nice on PC but weren't dark enough. Hopefully the countryside on GTA V will be nice and dark with the great night skies that RDR had.

Did you even read my comment carefully? I stated 'sometimes'... I swear the amount of idiotism on this site is fu**ing hilarious that it hurts laughing 'sometimes' sarcasm.gif

Will there be a lunar cycle? I love nights during new moon, the darker the better (especially with fog).

I repeated this a bunch of times. The reason it seems like night time in GTA games last longer is because the sky usually stays one shade of darkness until the early morning. Where as during the day, the sky is constantly changing shades. Like early morning dawn, to middle day, to late afternoon -- those are all considered "day" but it doesn't seem that way since the sky looks noticeably different in each case.

Oh yes the night in the countryside woods is dark, there is no artificial light pollution.

Listen to the silence and be afraid cityboy. Cause someone is watching You.

My bad, I've gotten in the habit of not reading anything in the V section completely.

Did no one here play RDR? Night time was beautiful in that game. In fact, the lighting cycles were all great. If they carried over an improved version of the day/night cycle from RDR and improved it I will be ecstatic. Especially the thunderstorms... looks like GTA V has the amazing thunderstorms from RDR but with lightning now. Cannot wait.

The thing is, the moon still causes some light regardless. And if not, car lights will. Maybe we can use flashlights as well? Thing is, in the country, 9/10 you will see the moon. And in the city, the lights take care of it. GTA IV was built to be dark and dreary. It went with the story.

I am excited to approach the city from the countryside during the middle of the night to see if there is light pollution. It'll be cool to see the stars slowly dissipate as you approach downtown Los Santos.

I think nighttime will be cool, especially since we can attach flash lights to our weapons now.

With that survival mode, as sick of zombies as i am, if it was actually about zombies, can you imagine how creepy it would be at midnight in the countryside against zombies?

yeah I hated that in IV just the other day I was walking down the alley way to get into the gun shop. took me 5 minutes to find the downward staircase to the shop.

are you talking about lighting or time scaling?

I'm assuming you're not a PC player, on the PC version of 4 you could change the time of day with the trainer script *there might have been a cheat code too, I might be confusing GTA4 with SR3's cheats though* and if I remember correctly, there was a time scaling option on said trainer script as well. so one hour in real life would be one hour in game time, etc.

What is it now, one hour = 2 real minutes?

Now that I think of it, have we ever seen a screenshot of Mt Chiliad or Sandy Shores area at night time?

Im pretty sure it will be slightly better than RDR. Even if its like RDR, I will be more than satisfied. The weather and day/night cycle in RDR has to be the best in any openworld game. The game looks so beautiful during thunderstorms, its like a painting came to life.

I used to live in California like last year. And the day/night skyline cycle screams "Hollywood!" Compare the skylines. L.A is amazing, you'll fall in love.

In the countryside It gonna be dark, real dark. There will be an eerie silence which will make you wait in pained anticipation..... only to fall flat on your ass from seeing Big-foot with a troll face.

For those who have played RDR you'll know it can be a nightmare playing the game at night time (in game) especially during daylight (real life) on a glossy reflective tv. Unless you crank up the brightness to max then you have no chance of seeing what your doing.

I hope they make the brightness settings a bit better for V so that the game is dark but not so dark we can't even play the game.
