The Dark Passenger

I think there won't be a GTA 6. GTAO will take over now.

One thing we can be sure of, is Vice City will make a come back in a future expansion of GTAO.

As long as it displaces CoD as a shooter, I'm good giving it to the generally horrible MMO genre.

I'm really excited for the day where there's a "GTA World" with every geographical location on Earth, CGI graphics, and millions of players all playing on the same map.

That will be a great day for [GTA] gamers.

They say they have the software to do it and of course it will take TONS of time and TONS of money to do it but if they can do it, go for it! the sky is the limit....literally. I can see it now. Walk through the doors of a random airport and have a selection of major cities come up. Pick the one you want to go to and BAM your off!

This. No doubt they could have done it years ago, or now even but the reason they don't is from a business perspective. If they released what you said now, then what would they do in 20 years time? would people be bored? probably not, but as a business they can't risk it. As a business the best way to make money is not to release everything in one go, a bit like how many recording artists don't release all their best tracks on the same album.

It's a shame but it's all about money.

Yeah, I also think its partially due to insufficient resources. I mean, it takes them 5 years & millions of dollars to make LS, imagine how long before they can make all other places in the world confused.gif

It already is an MMO. CoD is an MMO, too. Many games are MMO WITHOUT many players in the same server.

Arctic Combat, Vindictus, mmos which have only a few people, very few in the case of vindictus, per "server".

Each 16 player world in GTA Online is just an inter-mingled instance of all the others.

The game is ALREADY an MMO, because of the economy, crews (guilds), questing, and so on.

And most basically, the matchmaking process in CoD and the one in GTA Online (which will be unseen, but it is matchmaking) being against the entire game population, by the definition of what an MMO is, makes them both MMO, it's just wrongly perceived by people that MMO requires many players on the same server - it is not true at all.

it does NOT take many players per instance of the overall world to be an MMO. There are MANY MMOs without graphical worlds at all, many that have only co-op and low-player-count per server. Different channels of the same economy/world/universe/blending in between starting and ending games and such.

It is a VERY wide misconception that "MMO" means "a lot of players at the exact same time, on the exact same screen" - and it is a fallacy.

"MMO consists of at least 100 players competitively gaming in an online world on a single dedicated host or server."
