Next-gen Player limit

Okay, now first off if i'm wrong/being stupid no need to go rage mode on me I just asking a question.

Current gen consoles (xbox 360 & ps3) have 512mb of RAM, but next gen console will have 8gb of RAM, so does that mean if they were to port it to next-gen (which they probably will), will they be able raise the player limit since they will have 16 times more RAM then they do now or does it not make a difference (in terms of online player limit)?

Yes, Battlefield 4 will feature 64 online players and at 60 frames per second on nextgens. The only thing limiting us as a technical aspect now is mostly just bandwidth.

GTA V next gen can easily do 128 on consoles. Especially using cloud technology not taxing the system.

Cloud technology ? You mean dedicated servers ? That's nothing new

EDIT: 100 % Sure Rockstar Will have dedicated servers on current-gen too, just not official Xbox ones.

Yeah, next-gen will allow for so many more players. Rockstar exce specifically said in a recent interview that it was console memory limitations were the reason for the 16-player limit.

RAM doesn't really have anything to do with it. IIRC getting dozens of players is more limited with connection problems, which dedicated servers would be good for. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

The cloud technology being offered on the next-gen consoles is a technology much more advanced than what is being used current-gen. Are you stupid?

In the The Benz interview with 3DJuegos, there was this:

3DJ: How complicated is to make a multiplayer like this in the current generation of consoles? What are the limitations you encountered?

L. B. I think the main complication is given by the amount of memory you can use. Every single person in the game has their own clothing and vehicles, so there is a lot of data to be stored simultaneously, since there may be up to 16 players in the same game. That was the biggest factor. Had we not had that limitation would have been possible items of 32 players or more.

It will increase the player limit most definitely on next gen. They may be able to do it in current gen but it might just be 20 -24 at the very most. And has anybody noticed how they said that GTA V will not move to next gen, but they havent said anything about online? Gives us more reason to believe it will port to next gen and we will have some sort of next gen upgrade system. I honestly don't knw hoe to het in touch with the devs but if some of you can, try and squeeze that info out.

Current gen only has 512mb of ram? Ugh that is crap.

On the PS3, the system has 256 and the video is 256. It's harder to code around, which is one of the reasons why Skyrim has some framerate problems.

E: Fixed something I said that could alter the entire sentence lol

Ex Hellraiser

Yes, in the most recent The Benz interview, he said the top reason for sticking with 16 players was the lack of RAM on current gen. All the players in the lobby, their location, clothes, etc all would need to be loaded and ready at all times, so the fact that there is so little RAM on current gen directly limits the amount of players available in a single game.

I am sure that you can install GTA Online on your Xbox one or PS4. However, the player limit will still be 16. This isn't BF3. 16 is a great number of players and maybe even to much.

16 players is maybe too much? Congrats on being the first person to ever say that.

well, I always play GTA IV and GTA EFLC multiplayer with max 4/5 friends. It's funny enough and you can create enough havoc and chaos.

I think that otherwise people are going to annoy you. tounge.gif

Thats also the reason why I will only play GTA Online with my friends tounge.gif

GTA seems to be heading toward owning more stuff, so 32 or 40 players seems to be a reasonable number, not 100.

Moving to cloud tech and hosted servers can change all of this though.
