No clue, perhaps the winners of the SOTW's should be the topic starter but since we're low on activity, the most active in these sections should be designated.

 

Kilen, you're more than welcome to attack them if you wish. I always intend to do SOTW but while I was staff I was busy running other sections and dealing with work and all that. I've stepped down from staff, so I should be a bit more active around here now, in terms of participating in contests and what not.

We need to edit the rules for the next SOTW, as results of the current votibg stage. What changes do you all think we should make?

I say there needs to be a rule that an entry can only be submitted when more than 2 mins have gone into making it. I usually spend anywhere from 5-15 mins on a project, maybe even longer depending on what it is.

I think it's clear everyone wants to see some pretty cool stuff or something with some flare. Not a comic strip, not a meme and not just a still image with nothing done to it. Perhaps we should mix up the competitions a little bit. Rather than just a set theme, perhaps add some more depth to it, like the one dude mentioned, a set number of colors, a preset size (400x125, etc), a gradient theme on top of the main theme.. you know, anything.

 

Because I have to agree that the SOTW's are getting fairly boring with just the same ol 'Okay, make a sig with the Theme 'STAR WARS'' .. I rather see some more flare added or something totally unique rather than just screenshots with a bit of brushing on it. Everyone has their skill sets or level of skill in whatever program they use but if we use a theme with some more set rules such as a color limit, or specific brush sets or something, then everyone can participate on the same level and the victor will win based on creativity and not because he has a higher level of expertise. Just my 2c.

- No riling up people to vote for you (as seen in SOTW #85, when Greasepalms got his lunch buddies to vote for his unfunny sig).

 

If any participant is seen doing this, they'll be banned from SOTW permanently. It ruins a complete competition, as was the case with SOTW 85.

 

Also going with what gunwrath said about having more in-depth themes. I find that competitions with a more complex theme translates to better entries. It allows participants to be more flexible, and having more flexibility is what allows participants to create better signatures. If we could have themes that would be more interesting I think that'd be great. Boring themes generally stir up generic entries. We don't want that.

 

If every single next SOTW stuck with that concept, there is no doubt I would enjoy it even more.

Perhaps theme that represents emotion, or how we interpret something? Instead of visual things like Summer, School, Movies, etc.

I'm kind of in the mood for another stock image SOTW. The last stock image we did was with the grizzly bear I believe, there were some awesome entires then.

Would horror and sh*t like that fall under that? or do you mean dark by contrasts and colors?

Not a big fan of the image in SOTW #91 but hey, it's whatever. In the future I suggest we use stock images that have less composition and can allow us to have more freedom to work with as opposed to a Delorean.
