Harley Posted September 3, 2013 Share Posted September 3, 2013 Basically photos taken for advertising or design, usually submitted to and searchable in online databases to purchase (although some are royalty free). So when a company needs a photo of a woman eating a salad for a diet leaflet or somesh*t, instead of finding a model and making a salad to photograph, they can search for 'woman eating salad' (http://www.istockphoto.com/search/text/wom...0eating%20salad). Although, in the context of the comp I think we're not necessarily talking a 'stock photo', but a set image we all have to start from. For the love of God though, don't make it about GTAV. Just because the theme is stock image doesn't mean the stock image will be picked from free stock images. The image can literally be picked from anywhere. SOTW #4 was a picture of a simple sheep in a field. Also there were some amazing entries for that week. So just because the stock image isn't what you want doesn't mean you can't make something out of it. I suggest anyone who doesn't fully understand what a stock image theme is, go take a look at SOTW #4 and #5. They can be found by using the simple search by at the bottom of your page. AEJY, a stock image is a great way to showcase ones skill in creating a signature.. it will weed out those who only add a 'border', instead each artist can add unique touches that ultimately will decide who's the winner. I'll more than likely revamp the topic tonight and work on the other little thread we talked about. Had a thunderstorm roll threw earlier and we lost power, but everything is good now and I should be able to get everything done. Not saying this is a solid idea but perhaps we should have an application style table for some to fill out or possibly have designated SOTW makers or designated ballot counters. I would like to tell everyone that SOTW is returning SOON! We’re working on a bigger, better SOTW than ever before. If you have any suggestions or questions, feel free to leave your remarks here. I would like to know what all of our SOTW fans want to see in the new competitions. And be sure to check back often for future announcements! (Edit No.1) Something that was brought to my attention as it is a frequently asked question. Yes, the SOTW Discussion/Guidelines page will be updating and will also be revamping with a more up-to-date look and feel. So this means if you have won a competition recently, your name along with your winning artwork will be added alongside the others. We were unable to update this for some time with the new forum updates, but thanks to the excellent staff, we are once again able to fully update the page.
