What is SOTW

 

Signature of The Week is a weekly competition where GTAF artists create signatures following a specific theme,

and then the community votes on the winner. The victor receives bragging rights for that week, and virtual cookies.

 

Feel free to discuss the weekly competition here and suggestions for the next theme, or improvements to the competition.

 

 

Rules and Guidelines

• No Ripping - There will be no stealing or using someone else's work, claim it as your own, and use it in this competition.
• Renders & Backgrounds - You may use renders, backgrounds, and other resources as long as they're not copyrighted, but you must put forth effect.
• One Entry Per Person - You may only enter one signature. You can edit as many times as needed.
• Forum Size - All entries must be a size that fits this forum - 500x150 pixels and 80 kb in size.
• Voting - You may not vote for yourself. You may vote once, with a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place vote.
• Begging - There will be no begging for votes in any section of the forums or through PM.

Dude this is awesome! The only thing I'll mention (and this is a huge time-consuming process so no big deal if it isn't done) is it would be 110% gold if you linked each weeks' SOTW contest thread; or at least the ones available. That way people can see the efforts of the competition that the winners were chosen from.

 

Nontheless, sick. Love it. Prince approves.

GunWrath, thanks for the great suggestions. I think they all should be used for the next couple SOTW's.

 

Devyl, I will update it tonight and add your suggestion to the thread, thank you.

No problem, perhaps add a box with different suggestions made for themes, that way whoever makes the next SOTW can select from the table of suggestions.

 

Also, I've had an idea in mind, not sure if I'll go through with it but something like Best of The Month .. pit each signature that won throughout the month and take a vote and see who wins best sig of the month I'll put some more thought into it and see what happens.

I've noticed one of the original SOTW topics back in like '09 had a stocked image theme.

It would be nice to see that theme return. In fact, I think it would be good enough to maybe do a stock image theme once every month.

 

GunWrath, I think there were one or two Signature of the Month's or Year, can't remember which one it was, but it seemed like it really never stuck. It would be nice to see a SOTM though. I would be all for it if you'd like to maybe start it up!

I second this. It'll be like the "Caption this picture" game, except Photoshop style. I luhv it.

 

On that note, good job with the topic. It would be better if you actually linked the SOTW's though; that way we can see practically every single entry.

There's an entry week and a voting week for each SOTW comp. So a 'Best of The Month' thing would only have two signatures, which seems a bit weak.

Could tie in top 3's of each.. but I think some different competitions like Large Art and stuff would be neat. I enjoy doing more projects like that, a larger canvas is always nice and a good way for artists to pretty show their talent.

Back in the day, Piece of The Week was occasionally run. I don't really mess around with non-signature art these days, but if I'm not too busy I might be down for it.

My suggestion is stock image. If y'all would like, this stock image can be around one of y'all suggestions like animals or combat. I think stock image would be a fun theme to do for once, especially since the last time we did this theme was in 2011. SOTW has been already a competitive competition, but with everyone using the same image and making it stand out from the rest makes it even more competitive. It tests actual graphic design skills instead of just cropping a picture and adding a little ole' black border.

 

Also, I'll be doing what we talked about, GunWrath. I've been quiet busy lately but I'll be able to do it very soon. When you get the time I'll be on Skype if you would like to discuss it. Sorry for the wait but good things will be going to the Visual Arts section.
