Press thinks $250 million expected off GTA Online!

Looked and couldn't find a topic about this so I wanted to share this:

Here's a quote from a recent yahoo.com finance article... (Yahoo article)

"It may be hard to imagine an MMORPG in the Grand Theft Auto context, but there may be something more than just a video game console and online experience. The report says:

The press speculates Rockstar is building a persistent, online world, similar to Second Life or World of Warcraft, and GTA Online will give each player its own online character/home to customize. At its core, we expect GTA Online will likely resemble GTA 4’s multi-player game with downloadable content enabling new single player and co-op missions, as well as competitive group play modes. ... It is unlikely that GTA Online will offer a monthly subscription service like World of Warcraft, but we would expect more opportunities for players to spend real money on character, vehicle, or weapon upgrades via micro-transactions.

The report expects a base case of $250 million in digital for GTA Online. That is after $260 million for Call of Duty in 2012 and $200 million for Battlefield 3. Borderlands 2 was $100 million. Merrill Lynch sees Grand Theft Auto 5 shipping 19 million units during this fiscal year. The call here is for Take-Two to rise to $24 based on the GTA 5 launch and the possibility that a greater visibility on the digital revenue opportunity could be a near-term catalyst for the stock."

It appears a lot of analysts are expecting GTAONlINE to have things that players pay for, whether it be a subscription or maybe just paying for items.

Who knows, but it appears that a good amount of money (30%) is being predicted to come from GTAONLINE and downloadable contents alone!

I don't know how I feel about this. Games that have mico transactions I have played before, I have never bought anything, I've only grinded my way through them. If this game does have that sort of thing, it better only be visual/personalisation and not things that can empower you in any way.

One game which really screwed up with the online pay-to-play scheme was APB. I don't know if that game is still going or not, but as far as i remember the online was dull and boring, and you had to pay top money to play it. I'm sure if R* made an online MMO then it'd be amazing and 1000/1 times better than APB. But you always have to be careful how much you charge people for the game. I'd without a doubt pay a monthly fee, if it's less than $10. If it's more than $10 then i'd struggle.

I'm not the biggest fan of subscriptions or micro-transactions, but, with it being GTA, shut up and take my money, R*.

Not hard, I think it's just new to the GTA Mp experience. If it's really an MMO, I expect it to be like RDR's MP, you had quests to do on MP, but in the case of GTA V much more quests to do.

I hope its like one of my favorite mmorpg s guild wars 2 had micro transactions but never once did I feel I need to buy anything and on top of that gw2 is 65 dollars usd and that's it no sub fee or even haveing to pay for expansions they were all just big free updates
