The poll on the other thread was different so I thought I should make this. I'm sure it will be free. Also, will we find out this Thursday if it costs. Thanks.

Depends to what extent. If you call microtransactions/optional DLC, then if already requires money. The Collectors Edition comes with two extra online functionalities; the hybrid car and the characters from previous in the series. If you mean a subscription, then no. I'm very dubious as to something like that coming from Rockstar.

Honestly, if GTA Online is subscription based, I wouldn't pay even if I could afford it. I do not support this, especially if I'm already for a damn membership to Xbox Live. Even if it's GTA, even if it's Rockstar, I'm not doing that sh*t.

I don't think Rockstar would be that cruel to us.

It's been the ambition of the Take Two board for a while now. Just look at this interview from 2008.

During today's talk at the BMO Capital Market's conference, Take-Two head honcho Strauss Zelnick seemed very up on the idea of downloadable content, micro-transactions and even... subscriptions. "Looking ahead, the biggest opportunity that we see for the industry as well as for us is downloadable content," he said.

Zelnick went on to talk about the importance of microtransactions and how multiplayer gaming could perhaps be the solution to the growing used game market. In other words, make your online mulitplayer good enough and people won't want to sell the game back. And then he had to ruin it all by bringing up subscriptions and not, it seems, just for the typical massively multiplayer online PC game"The holy grail is taking a business, already a very large and successful business that's focused on packaged goods that you sell once and then are occasionally resold by others with new benefit to us, and turning that into a subscription business or a semi subscription business where we have an ongoing relationship with consumers, giving them products that they want," he said. "Who's better positioned to do that than the company that has the top franchises." But what games could you be thinking of doing that to Strauss? "It's our view that you won't be able to apply a subscription model to mid-tier titles," he said. "The triple-a titles that people really want to have that are really must have are in the best position for this business model."

Don't be surprised if Zelnick has got his wishes granted.

Why do people think it's going to be subscription based? This isn't a god damn MMO people, it's a single player game that has an online mode like countless other games, jesus f*cking christ.

110% sure there won't be any kind of subscription, I don't see why you guys would think that seeing as there are many games out there (including MMOs) that aren't sub based and the only time you pay is to actually BUY the game.

It's because everyone believe GTA Online will be a separate game, and the fact that they have mentioned a subscription-based Multiplayer before. I just hope they don't go through with it

@Above: That's almost just as bad...

NO! And whoever started this rumor is a dumbass.

It was probably that one Zidane idiot that trolls the forums every damn day.

I don't know of a time when the multiplayer function of single player games cost money, so no.

GTA Online will be very much F2P. I reckon if you want optional DLC like extra gamemodes, characters, skins etc...those would not be free.

I expect a freemium model -- some basic ability to engage in GTA Online for free, but the fun stuff will be a yearly season pass. confused.gif

I think it will be free to play but you can use money to buy ingame points to buy stuff like clothing or taunts.

Well, the Collector's Edition that I pre-ordered comes with GTA Online content. So, I'd expect that I shouldn't have to pay even more money to use that content. That would be ludicrous.

Uh...what console game has ever required you to PAY to play their multiplayer. That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Especially for the people who use Xbox, they already have to pay to play online.

Anyway, I really hope it doesn't offer any microtransaction things. I really think those a stupid, and I hate how other people can pay to get money for things that sort of give them an advantage over others. I see no point just make it all there. Only thing I could think is if you could pay to level up faster or something like that, or for like experience points.

Maybe have like an in game money system to unlock characters and weapons, and then if you want you can pay real money for in game money to use. But you can still earn that in game money from matches.

Dont give Rockstar any ideas. I dont think it will require for a player to pay to play, it just doesnt make sense. Sure there will be micro transactions for small dlc items.

IF they do that, which im sure they wont but if they do I will not give a sh*t about GTA Online. Im not paying for the same game twice. It should be a separate project if they want to charge extra for online.

Yeah R* will be greedy with GTAV, I can guarantee it. I'll most likely stick to GTA4 if it's full of subscriptions, premium membership, microtransactions etc.

Actually what I wouldn't mind is premium membership given to everyone who bought the game, and then premium membership gets everything free. People who don't buy the game can get a free GTAO download where they have to pay for premium membership, microtransactions etc. That way the only people who get f*cked over by R* are thoe that aren't fans of the series, and there'll be more players online.

It's probably not going to be subscription based but if it was I would get it because I think you'd get your money's worth.

I don't see the reason why Rockstar would cost for multiplayer itself. They are making billions on this game. However, I'm quite sure it will cost for DLC's and such.

Technicaly you have to pay to play multiplayer for a game because you have to pay for the game in the first place and if you didn't buy the game than you cant play multiplayer
