Jimbatron
A little off topic perhaps, as V wasn't even announced back then, but I think when I'll look back at the times before V, I'll think of this first of foremost: Aye, remember that well. Link for anyone who doesn't. That was some funny goings on and no mistake. The whole DT thing has been pretty much swept under the carpet a while ago now: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=481121&hl=
Official General
The wannabe gangsters who kept saying stuff like "I don't want to play as an old fart!" and "Is that CJ at 1:06? yeah grove street nigga! yeah gangsta! yeah nigga! grove st fo life nigga!". Funny how a lot of people see Michael as their favourite protagonist now that we know more about him. What makes you automatically think that those who did not want to play as an older character were 'wannabe gangstas' ?? Did it ever occur to you that many people just simply did not want to play as an older, middle guy ? I was one of them and I still am. I was so glad that Franklin was one of the protagonists, as I get to play as a younger guy. But I'm still interested in Michael too. And you are wrong, you got it the other way round. Many people actually liked Michael as their favorite from the start because they believe he is a Mafioso kinda guy, or someone like De Niro from Heat, which they think is very cool, then next it was Trevor. In fact, Franklin was the least liked to begin with, until his stunning, action-packed individual trailer came out and blew the other two protagonist's trailers out of the water. After this, overnight Franklin became just as popular as Michael and still remains so. Trevor is probably the least liked out of the 3 now. Grand Theft Savage
You're pretty racist for assuming I'm racist just because I hold an opinion on Franklin He didn't say you were racist. I did. You're racist for assuming I'm racist. I hate Franklin because he's a slum rat gangbanger who, gameplay-wise, will most likely be a CJ clone. Don't call me racist, though, seeing as I enjoyed Vic (aside from his whining). He knew how to live the high life without senseless gangbanging. He didn't perform the shots, he CALLED the shots. You sound beyond stupid.... You're very ignorant son of a bitch but hey that is how all stupid people are. lmao "You're racist for saying I'm racist" how stupid.. and the fact you hate Franklin that much for no reason at all... A video game character makes me to believe that your either really stupid, very young, or just plain troll that doesn't know when to stop. Exactly. He's probably one of those guys that get jumped every other week and then get on his computer to rant about gangbangers.

Purely based from a story perspective, I'd say Michael is the most interesting. He's unlike any GTA character before in my opinion. However (judging from my own experience and and the people around me- NOT in general) I think the age of the players has a significant impact on who they prefer. For instance my younger brothers (triplets who are 17) look forward to playing as Franklin the most, along with a lot of their friends. Whereas for my dad (he's in his 50s - retro gamer) and my boyfriend's two brothers (they're in their early 30s) look forward to playing as Michael the most. In any event, I'm absolutely thrilled at the fact that we have 3 characters that are so different. Bodes well for variety.

I still did not really wanna play as a middle-aged guy in 40s or 50s in GTA. I just don't think a GTA protagonist should be old to the point that he's about to retire, that don't excite me. I'd rather play as relatively younger guy who has a lot to live for and achieve. However, I now don't mind playing as Michael, because I have Franklin to play as too, so I'm content. I didn't mean my opinion counted for everyone. Just from what I've observed around me. . . Like I said I'm really glad there's 3 characters. I find Trev to be the least exciting character but I'm still gonna spend some time with him cause I like variety and it looks like we'll have lots of it here. In any event, I'm absolutely thrilled at the fact that we have 3 characters that are so different. Bodes well for variety. This. I think every character is great in their own unique way. Michael, a rich ex-bank robber with a dysfunctional family. Franklin, a young and ambitious hustler from the ghetto trying to make it out alive. Trevor, an adrenaline junkie who is prone to violent outbursts and destructive rampages. @Official General A lot of people on here before were saying things like: "I hope we don't have to play as the balcony guy, hes an old fart who looks like he should be in a zimmer frame" "He dosent belong in a GTA game, he looks about 55, hes past his sell by date, its going to be boring playing as him." "That pussy looks like can't even walk without a stick, never mind running round shooting people." "Why does R* keep giving us older protagonists, we haven't had anyone decent since CJ." That's the vibe I got judging by those comments. Because V is set in Los Santos a certain section of this forum think that it should be San Andreas 2.0. Its a new era now, San Andreas is and always will be a classic, but people need to learn to move on. I know it wasn't everyone, but there was a lot of people who said that kind of stuff about Michael before we knew who he was, now they have seen the trailers, I have noticed a lot of people are looking forward to playing as Michael. Anyway, I think its good that R* have given us 3 very different characters to play as, to suit everyone. If you like playing as a rich, family man, pick Michael. If youre into playing as a younger guy and you like the fast cars (who dosent) and the gang life, pick Franklin, Or if you just want to go on a rampage and destroy everything and everyone in your sight, then Trevors your man. Bantri
With GTA 5 being a little over a month away from our grasp, we may as well take a look back on where we came from here on these forums, with all the crazy speculation, love-or-hate ideas, and steaks. How can we forget steaks? I'll look back on how I hated Franklin for being a gang banging hood-rat slum ghetto trash low-life thug, and I'll always remember all the hate mail I got from "TRU FRANKLIN OGs", calling me a racist for having an opinion. What part of the V speculation-days will you guys remember? Why don't you make a slideshow of the posts and set it to Time of Your Life by Green Day. It's funny to see previous guess though, but everyone here acts like these forums are some sort of summer camp, and the game releasing will be going home. Bullit1990
Pfff.... so many things.. but to me, the most memorable are: The Find The Blue topic The upcoming of Zee The whole debate about the game having multiple protagonists People listening to Take2's financial reports Like some others already noted, the balcony/Ned Luke guy, hispanic/red car guy The infamous words : In a few weeks or so It feels like ages ago when the first trailer came out. universetwisters
OP - One question? You seem or seemed to have "hated" (Hate is such a strong word and I find it pretty amusing how you can harbour such an explosive feeling towards a videogame character) Franklin because in your words, "he's a useless ghetto hoodrat who indulges in gangbanging." But Trevor is an unhinged drug addict without morals and he pretty much racks up body counts on a whim. You seem to dislike gangbanging because it's senseless but at this point, I feel as if Trevor's acts of violence are even more senseless than Franklin's. Why no animosity towards him? Meth makes you do crazy sh*t that you don't have much control over. You can't quit it, once you do it, you're pretty much hooked for life. On the other hand, Franklin keeps complaining about the ghetto life and wants to be more than that. Yet at the same time, he seems to be helping Lamar and his other hood rat buddies with their gang work. If you want to quit the ghetto life, just quit. Nobody's gonna kill you if you quit. Official General
@Official General A lot of people on here before were saying things like: "I hope we don't have to play as the balcony guy, hes an old fart who looks like he should be in a zimmer frame" "He dosent belong in a GTA game, he looks about 55, hes past his sell by date, its going to be boring playing as him." Michael's older, middle-aged identity was indeed a turn off for many people on this forum. However, there equally just as many, and probably more people on here who liked the fact that Michael was the probable protagonist, and they liked the fact that he was older 'wiser', 'badass' and had the look of a Mafioso/De Niro Heat character. When it was revealed for the first time that there was not one, but three protagonists in GTA V, shortly after Michael appeared to be the most popular of the three according to polls, closely followed by Trevor. The same guys who initially liked Michael and Trevor the most would continuously bash Franklin and talk about how he was boring, a CJ clone, and a "dumb gangbanger from the ghetto" and all that crap. The point I'm making is that it went both ways on an equal level, it certainly was not one-sided against Micahel like you made it out to be. As for what you said about V being seen on here by some as a San Andreas part 2, that is just a sweeping generalization and assumption on your part. Just because V is set in Los Santos and has a black protagonist it does not automatically mean it must be connected to San Andreas and CJ in any way. I'm pretty sure that a majority of those who wanted a younger protagonist did not see it that way. It is clear to see that Franklin and CJ are two different characters. @ universetwisters To be frank, you actually made a very good thread here But you have spoiled it with your continuous, obsession with hating Franklin, criticizing him and the black ghetto/gang theme that he represents. I really just don't see what your problem is. I don't wanna say you are racist, but you sure don't help your situation when others accuse you of being racist Edited August 13, 2013 by Official General

Why would I hate on Franklin or CJ, just because they're black? Look at Vic. He's black, but is he a ghettoblasting gangbanger? No. Look at the empire he built up (up until he gets killed). Do you see him drinking 40's on a house step, playing jacks and killing innumerable rival gangsters over a petty squabble (aside from takeovers). Vic wanted to get out of the gang life, and if you take the ending of VCS literally, where Vic leaves town, he's pretty much successfully gotten out of the gang life (at least in Vice City). Bikers, Triads, Yakuza, Mafia, etc. because they have to settle disputes with violence rather than talking the issue over with other "gangs" like sensible adults. Think about it, which do you think is a more effective way to settle a dispute? Like this? or like this? Then you hate every GTA protagonist to date because every single one of them worked for organisations that settled things with violence. What do you want? A non violent GTA? Are you serious? You are just hating on the black guy because it's funny to troll people right? I mean, that's clearly proven by these qoutes you made shortly after each other: but after the gameplay trailer, me and Franklin are on pretty decent terms I hate Franklin because he's a slum rat gangbanger who, gameplay-wise, will most likely be a CJ clone. So let's solve this whole issue and tell everyone you are a douchebag who thinks it's funny to troll everyone by hating on a black guy. Edit: And oh yeah, don't clutter threads with useless pics. The guy was in the army he grew up very different from Franklin. Plus had better connections than Frank at the time.

No, not at all. At the start of Vice City he is still dealing drugs and he gets killed. He dies as a drugdealer. Look it up. Bbtw, Vic is half black. His mother is white. He's like a criminal Obama lol. And Vic was exactly the same as CJ. He set up an empire where he had goons that did violent sh*t for him. CJ's rank in Grove Street also went up, and he was the leader along with Sweet at the end of the game probably.
