redx165
Hey guys, I just have a quick question I wanted to ask In September I am moving away and going off to school. Luckily my dorm room has a television which is awesome so I will be able to play the game come Sept 17. The thing I am wondering about is that the TV is very small (It is one of those old ones that is basically a big grey box and the screen is a square). How will the game look on this TV? It is SD (Standard definition) and like I have said before, is a small box (not a rectangle like most screens are today). Let me know if any of you play on TV's like this, maybe I am just over thinking it. Maybe some of you are in the same predicament? Basically just wondering if the game is going to look sh*tty on one of these or not Sorry to say this but get with the times. You can pick up a cheap HD TV cheap now a days. I recommend getting it when GTA V is out. Trust me you'll see a difference.

Official General
I have a 20 inch Sony Bravia HD TV for my PS3. Based on this, all I can tell you is that graphics of the games I play look much better and more detailed on a smaller TV. I've seen the same games played on my friend's much bigger 32 inch HD TV and it just don't look as detailed as mine. However I'd recommend getting a smaller HD TV, like a 20 inch, they are not that expensive these days. GTA V will definitely look better on a smaller TV as long as it's a HD one. Choco Taco
The main problem with playing on a standard definition television is that the text on the phone can be hard to read.

I know, I have a 24 inch HDTV and I love it. Its just the right size for me. When TVs are too big they stretch out the pixels and it ends up not looking as good. Smaller TVs are more compact but pack a much nicer video quality (IMO)
Triple Vacuum Seal
It will look fine. For some time, I preferred lower definition for GTA because HDTV really just brings out the flaws of this gen's graphics (aliasing and such). The sharpness is the only thing that might bother you over time. You may have trouble reading the in-game cell phone. AuSsIeThUnDeR36
I have two tvs in my office that I use for games, I have small Sony Trinitron, seriously this is one of those 'fatback' tvs it has a 10 inch x 10 inch display bur it's perfect for SA since the display doesn't go beyond 576p anyway. My other tv is Samsung 22 inch HD plays some games in 1080p but mainly 720p like IV. I sit about 4 feet away at my desk so it's perfect for gaming. If you are playing from your bed and have the tv miles away on a 20 inch display then that's just silly. Enjoy your new glasses when you go blind! BMW1M
He must of bought his TV years ago. In 2007 I bought a 40" Samsung LCD 720p for $1500. Just last year I bought a 47" Panasonic LED 1080p for $850. That TV had a picture defect. The Samsung also had a defect that caused a class action lawsuit against Samsung. My TV wasn't effected by it and I got a capacitor change for free. Still works. You pay top dollar for a bunch of faulty sh!t. Doesn't matter which company you buy. I have a 19'' Samsung HDTV. Will that be enough to make the game look good?

BlackNoise
The best thing is a cheap PC monitor if you can find one. If not, just use what you have.

I currently have a 19" Samsung HDTV in my room and i plan on bringing it. Will 19" be enough to make this game look great? Or is it worth upgrading to something a tiny bit bigger? 19" HDTV is perfect if u sit a couple feet from the screen or so..im using a smaller 17" monitor i got for FPS games and i love it..not to mention my 1,200w Samsung surround sound in my tiny bedroom lol

Ispintechno
I wouldn't dare play this game on a SD TV. Jesus. If I was that broke I would break in somewhere, anywhere, as everyone has HDTV's. Christ steal it from a business. Upgrade with a brick to window. GTAV will be sweeter if you need to do a petty crime to play it. SD TV's are strictly junkyard crap. You will be insulting us all if you play on that. R* will likely revoke your GTA O privileges because that is bullsh*t. (or we will kill you online because you will be half blind) Buy something used that is small and 16x9 HD or just wait. For the love of god. Holey f*ck nobody should be subjected to such ass stench obsolete viewing. My gawd you will need glasses half way through the game.

LateNightNeons
Although I did have an HD 24 inch monitor, when I first played GTA IV it was on a small (17 inch I think) SD TV, because I was using the HD monitor for other things. Let me tell you, modern games are not designed for smaller TVs. You had to be really close to the TV in order to read text and see all the indicators, like minimap, health and remaining ammo. Older games, like SNES games, actually look a lot better in these small TVs. So no, old TVs don't do justice to modern games. I would rather wait to play the game properly, than play it and have an inferior experience.
