SammyXNA
Played GTA IV on SD and it looked some what better in terms of smoothness cause of the fake AA that CRT's deliver. Other than that, I couldn't really see that much the first time around, the pigeons for example, they just looked like red glowing balls on my screen lol. Booya818
There is no way in hell I would be happy playing V on an SD TV. I feel for ya bro. Get a cheap second hand HD TV man.
K20
i played the xbox on a standard tv and it looked sh*t. like proper sh*t. better off buying a monitor with hdmi connection. monitors are pretty cheap these days. maybe a second hand one you can pick up as well
Lil_B_The Basedgod
Well, I'm gonna play on my SD TV in my room, and I have the trailers on my xbox, and they look FANTASTIC. My only gripe is that when I watched the gamplay trailer, the HUD was off the screen a little bit, but so was RDR's. I figure their either gonna fix it, or I'm gonna play with the HUD off for once. It's not the end of the world though. GTA V is GTA V. And I wish I could afford a new TV use a computer screen and speakers. i only had to pay 5$ for the cords that connect it
tenpennyisplainevil
Graphic wise, it should just be a little less than an HD TV. Manageable to the fullest. About the square screen, though, I don't know how that's gonna turn out. It might be unplayable or it might be just fine, you're gonna have to see for yourself. waikzguy8998
At bare minimum,,,,GET AN LCD or LED TV NOW! I just rented a place for the month last month and all it has was an old CRT tv and i decided to try FIFA on it. It was around 32 inches and even with the PS3, you cannot see/read sh** Any names that were not massive print weren't legible, the character faces looked blurred, and it just wasn't enjoyable Do yourself a favor, and trust me it will be worth it (I did the same in college with a 26" LCD) is go out and get at least 26-32 inches, LCD, minimum. They're like $100 bucks nowadays. You can skip a couple of meals, right? You won't regret it but you will regret playing V on such a crappy tv

Emergency_Room
Game consoles are about the only thing technology-wise I upgrade rather quickly. I used a Windows 98 computer until 2006, and the one I replaced it with had Windows XP and I used it until last year. In fact I used a VCR to record stuff as late as 2010. The TV I am using now is about a 1996 model and both consoles look good on it.
eastriver
You'll be fine. Standard definition on a small screen are good enough, at least your pixels aren't stretched out like crazy... hell you'll probably even have a higher pixel per inch rating than most HD TVs. Sure, color reproduction won't be as great as you find in modern TVs, but it should be fine... and at least you'll get true blacks with these old SD TVs lol. Really, if you aren't that bothered by the small screen, everything should be fine. You should be able to easily make out text on your phone (I did when I played GTA IV on my old SD TV) So I highly doubt you will have trouble making out anything and it comes with extra "anti-aliasing" So you won't be that bothered by the jaggies in the game
Input
Most of the text will appear very blurry. The edges of the screen will be very slightly cut off, colors will look kind of strange. But overall the game will be playable, I played GTA IV for years on my old 90's TV and it never bothered me.
Tycek
Don't even try if it's smaller than 21 inches. It will be drag.

LaDispute
Ahh i don't know why people are telling you it will look good because it won't obviously it's an SDTV, you best buy a cheap 32'' HDTV.
Savagemessiah
Well playing on a old TV doesn't make the game any less fun, I'll tell you that! however, using smaller TV with Standard definitition might result in not being able to see the words on the screen, that happened to me.. alot! Other then that I can't really find any reason why you shouldn't use an SD TV. Of course it looks even worse if you're used to HD then it might take a while to get used to is
Zeegelano
I play on a LG TV, which isn't HD. It's a flatscreen and I play on 576i if I'm correct. It's fine for me, allthough I'll probably buy a 1080p TV in the future.

blue1
Hey guys, I just have a quick question I wanted to ask In September I am moving away and going off to school. Luckily my dorm room has a television which is awesome so I will be able to play the game come Sept 17. The thing I am wondering about is that the TV is very small (It is one of those old ones that is basically a big grey box and the screen is a square). How will the game look on this TV? It is SD (Standard definition) and like I have said before, is a small box (not a rectangle like most screens are today). Let me know if any of you play on TV's like this, maybe I am just over thinking it. Maybe some of you are in the same predicament? Basically just wondering if the game is going to look sh*tty on one of these or not Buy a cheap 27" LED Display with 1080p or a 32" HDTV, it's not that expensive and it will be totally worth it. Playing PS3 on a SDTV, which I did before, felt like PS2 in terms of graphics.. Now I have a 40" 3D Smart HDTV from Samsung, which I use as a computer-screen as well, best investment ever! I'd just bite the bullet and upgrade, cause its worth it

NikoB_in_the_house
NewEgg Monitors The link above goes to some nice 20" monitors for less than $100 (if you have that) I would go with one of those if you can swing it. just get a hdmi to dvi adapter or a vga adapter and you'd be better off. Otherwise, it's not gonna be ideal but you can play. These systems still support SD but it may be tough to enjoy it to the fullest for the reasons that have been posted already! (Unless the monitor had HDMI but I don't think by looking at it.) The DVI adapter will be cheaper and better though.

zainzombie
Lets look at this differently.. You will be blown away by the game, all new features and mechanics on Sep 17th.. then when you get to play it in HD you will be blown away AGAIN. You will be blown away in instalments but you will get that awesome feeling twice. x2
