Sort of confused about Xbox One

I've seen this commercial lately, and others like it. I chose this one because. Dude. It's the Chead. Of course this one:

I've added this one because it's very important, it shows the voice commands:

Okay, is that the xbox 1? Or is it not?

IF that is not the xbox 1, and it is instead a box for the x1 - all the xbox 1 stuff that is "exclusive to it", is actually right there, in the cable service I already have, for a likely lowish priced upgrade, why do I/would I want an xbox 1?

Over a PS4, or indeed for gaming in general, over my PC?

Are you telling me the one thing it really has over the PS4, that one thing, is already what's coming to the cable provider anyway?

I don't understand if this is a non-branded xbox commercial, like, I don't get it at all - what is the point of having an xbox *over* a PS4 if this is not an xbox 1 commercial?

I guess I MAY be in denial here? Avoiding this actually being true - that the xbox 1's big tv feature main selling point they've been pumping (and getting antigamer backlash for) is not even special - we'll all have it on our cable box anyway as an option?

Can anyone explain? It is Not the xbox one, but instead the "x1" "xfinity 1", perhaps in association with microsoft? Or does it require xbox 1 to work? why don't I see someone saying xbox in these commercials?

Dude...clarify your sh*t.

This isn't a game console. It's a DVR. It is not related to Xbox.

It's the X1 from Xfinity lol.gif

I can understand your confusion. One more reason for Microsoft to change that terrible terrible name.

The name of the Xbox1, "is" the X1 though. I read that on Kotaku a while back.

What I am assuming is that Xbox1 is the box you "own" and the X1 is the rental box from the cable company that only does the tv, no games.

It's the same operating system though, right?

So, in other words, xbox 1 is useless and brings nothing special or unique to the table?

edit: yea, I'm researching it more now. Lol. They are making this the main point of "why you should pick the x1" and doesn't even have to do with gaming, and is not even exclusive to the xbox. It's comcast's stuff lol. They pay comcast to bring the content to xbox one wtf. lol.

That is so very sad lol.

What are you on about? The Xbox One is not called the X1, it's called the Xbox One.

If you can't get that through your head, I'm sorry.

They are both the same features, same operating system, and xbox is making a big deal about something anyone can do without their box. that is what I'm on about.'

'

In all seriousness, the X1 rollout was announced exactly a year prior to the Xbox One announcement. We're not sure why Microsoft would risk the brand confusion, especially as there are likely going to be many Comcast customers that will use that service through their Xbox One.

So, they are basically ripping off and making a big deal about something comcast was already doing publicly a year before them - who knows how long they were working on it? And this is Microsoft's big feature... and everyone's gonna have it, regardless of whether they pay 400 dollars for it, or complain that they will leave comcast if they don't give it to me for free (cause I like customer retention retaining my business and do not like spending more haha)

Yea, it's not. So at this point, I'm baffled as to why microsoft thinks xbox is worth buying when its sole unique feature is something cable providers are already doing since before xbone was announced. Makes no sense to me at all that MS thinks this is special for them to support when I already have a cable box, and now it's just a matter of time before I have this one (either by paying early, or getting it free when it becomes standard, or complaining to customer retention and getting it free - I have no reason at all to buy an xbox1. For games? Nah, PC will handle that, and Sony gets better exclusives)

Oh, I don't know, maybe for those "video game" things the kids are always going on about these days.

For all you dumbsh*ts out there, no sh*t it isn't an xbox. What I think he is trying to say, is that these features make the Xbox One pointless as a cable box, basically their main selling point.

Anyone can just buy the better PS4 and have this as well, making the Xbox One's features redundant.

Personally the only feature that the Xbox One has that is kind of cool is the HDMI input that possibly I could be doing something else via HDMI, for example, on a PC or playing the Ouya or even on the PS4 but still able to get notifications that friends are online, etc.

Though I have two screens so I won't use my gaming tv for anything other than gaming.

If you want to be a sane person, buy a PS4.

While I do agree with about the HDMI input and utilizing a PC or other devices with the One being a neat feature, I think the main feature of the Xbox One is still the video games.

Sure, at their conference all they seemed to focus on was the cable box feature / kinect integration with the console. But by this point when people hear the name "Xbox" I'm sure a great majority will already know it's a video game console and so they forwent the usual "it plays video games" and went straight to the features that set it apart from the competition. That being said, even if you disagree with that opinion, some people just aren't fans of the PS4 and would rather purchase one all-in-one-system rather than two.

I get what you are saying, and obviously it plays games, but what they are trying to pass off as a "Unique experience" is no longer unique, and you are right, nobody would want to buy two systems instead of one, but for people either getting their cable box for free or already bought one, why switch to an Xbox One for those features they have already. It is not offering anything new.

Besides, with all that extra functionality they could have instead added emulators to run 360 games as well, then there would be without a doubt a decent reason to buy the Xbox One over the PS4. They could have easily secured so many current 360 users with that alone.

Today they just announced you will no longer need the Kinect plugged in to run the console. This was my last remaining gripe with it, and now I don't have a problem with getting one. However, the PS4 does seem to be more powerful and has more games announced for it.

I will eventually get both, based off the news about the no-need kinect, but probably PS4 first.
