The game is rated M for mature, the murals are being painted advertisements on the internet everywhere, a ton of info and one month ahead. Obviously means the game has gone gold? aka development is done?

Not until R* says so, the game is out in exactly 5 weeks, R* has at The most 3 weeks to finish the game, and with such a big game like GTA V, they would take the max. Ammount of time to develope it.

You know how long it takes to ship millions of copies of a video game across the planet? IT would take atleast 3 weeks.

GTA has gotten popular in the last 5 years I think this is going to be different honestly.

GTAIV was released on April 29th 2008, and Take-Two announced only 12 days prior the release that the game went gold. The gold announcement of the predecessors Vice City and San Andreas also happened between 12 and 14 days prior the release.

Ofcourse development is done! 5 weeks away and you think they are still developing the game? Do you know how long the printing and distributing process takes? The game would already be printed and sitting in the distributor ready to go.

Maybe they are working on the first patch but nothing game breaking.

They had over 6 million copies of GTA IV shipped out around the world in less than 12 days. It doesn't take that long, and never will.

Different in what? What does popularity have to do with gold announcement?

Demand, factoring in printing times, packaging and shipment around the planet to comply with release date.

Yeah, but GTA IV and previouse GTA's went gold 2 weeks before release, and it worked, I don't think R* would have a problem with that, they may have everything planned.

I think we should separate what is really going on behinds the curtains, and what has been or will be communicated by Rockstar's genius marketing machine.

Clearly you have never had any business with arranging disc printing factories, booklet printings, assebmling all these, and then shipping. It's a much more complicated, and complex chain of events, and it took an awful lot of time of arranging those at your will (not to mention that you have to fit into those companies timeframe as well). Execution is a bit more efficient and if you are doing it right, it could get ready within a week - but still: the game probably already finished by now, and it has been submitted to Sony and Microsoft to authorize that (as you probably not that familiar with these process': the Platform Holders needs to check every game before it can relase on their consoles, and that process can really tough and bumpy - not to mention the amount of time it takes). So, if a company said their game is on "gold", probably that's only the official version, and they are waited for it only because of marketing purposes. It's usually done a 2-3 weeks before the street date of a product by the latest. I would say GTAV is already submitted for TRC which means, the development on it is already finished. Don't expect the Gold Announcement until the first week of September though.

They've got lots of time yet. The developers are probably debating whether to put in another city, based on fan demand. tounge.giftounge.gif

I thought that discs get printed all over the world. On the call of duty cases it has my local address on it even though its developed in America. I don't think every single copy comes from rockstar.

Poker2012chu

I wonder how soon it would go gold before release date? Black Ops 2 went gold 3 weeks before launch and it sold 7.6 million copies on day 1; I suspect that GTA V will have similar, if not somewhat higher figures, because 1) more people have consoles than in 2008 and 2) the GTA games are very popular. Previous R* games usually have went gold 2 weeks before launch, but I wonder whether that would be too late for the amount of sales that are expected on day 1 and week 1.

Man, it's crazy isn't it?

I can't imagine having worked on this game and knowing in 3 or 4 weeks it will go GOLD and

start to be mass-produced.

5 years of development time. 5 flippin' years. And now a month out from release. notify.gif
