The west also had Nate Dogg, Eazy E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, NWA, Compton's Most Wanted, Westside Connection and also legendary producers such as DJ Quik and Dr. Dre. (I know I said Dr. Dre twice, lol). Anyways, I'm not ripping on the east, they definitely had their legends, such as the ones you pointed out and others like Public Enemy, Run DMC, KRS One, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Rakim, Gang Starr, etc. I respect both coasts immensely and believe both had their legends, but I tend prefer the west coast because that's what I grew up with. After playing IV, SA was nearly unplayable for me. The improvement was too big to ignore. Just take a taxicab and make a trip (don't skip) through Liberty City, the environment is more alive and immersive then ever before. Everywhere you look there is something going on, and it all feels organic as opposed to forced like in SA. Furthermore, the story-lines in both IV and TLAD were amazing and felt real (TBOGT was decent, too over the top and forced at points though). I agree, GTA IV was my favourite GTA simply because of that. But I still stand by as Saints Row 2 being the best open world game ever simply for the amount of stuff to do. I liked the detail and graphics of IV, but i missed the countryside and all that. Also IV's feel was too gray and negative to me. I liked SA's color and mediterran feel because it was set in California. I have the same thing with V. The overal vibe is really great, sunny LS with desert and mountains. Tried to offer a more serious story. Serious doesn't mean you have to take away, if anything you add more and really make things "realistic", in real life I can do a lot more activities than niko could've and in real life I doubt I'd get away with just about everything niko did including the very beginning of his journey on a boat into America as an illegal immigrant, without the slightest hint of border patrol, please spare us the "realism/serious tone" line, it's a false and invalid excuse(I feel) r* used to cover up the fact that they couldn't graphics and features at the same time. R* getting their feet wet with the new engine (and as a result was a major step down, understandable but I didn't like it at all, it was as dull as ditch water away from the story). And It makes sense that they would choose LC for IV since III was the next leap in the series back on the PS2 from the top down PS1 titles. It was more a symbolic choice more than anything else. This 1 is the legit GTA Sequel they were aiming for back when we switched gen and San An left the people asking for more. They could have, but they didn't choose Vice City. Why is that? because GTA San An was and still is the GOAT GTA. the setting and the features back in San An are what the majority of the fans want...And are ultimately getting on Sep 17, from the customization to the sense of getting lost in the sticks and thinking you might stumble across leatherface or Sasquatch, breaking onto area 51, finding an alien, the gang turfs/rivalries and drive by's in the city. Thats what they are trying to recapture because it was the Ultimate GTA. no if's and's but's or maybe's. I agree! IV was a lame, boring affair of laziness. I did like Niko and his story, though. The second I went to a forklift and it didn't work, that was when my eyes opened and I saw all kinds of lame sh*t in that game. It was the first GTA that I didn't play for years after. I'd probably puke if I put it in and tried to play it now. IV was a major miss for R*--two steps back. Now, lets take three steps forward with V, shall we? Graphics? That´s only hardware. What improvements, dude? A soulless city? boring and annoying characters? unbearable repetitiveness? unoriginal and generic missions? stupid minigames (bowling as a pivotal minigame in a GTA is one of the most dumbest things I've seen in a Rockstar game)? What exactly? IV was just boring and pretentious, the lowest point for Rockstar in years. The bleach greencoat of the helpless and hopefuls of the LC metro, the minute resolution of the brickwork of 2445 Mohawk Avenue had connected my spirisation to the game like none that had fought before it. San An had that cool jib of a step going back in the double 0 four. But today in the age, my self just cannot take it seriously anymust. Here is a list that my opinion employs GTA III defined what GTA is as a series and what makes an open world game. GTA VC defined what GTA is as a series and what makes an open world game. GTA SA defined what GTA is as a series and what makes an open world game. GTA IV defined what GTA is as a series and what makes an open world game. GTA V will do the same.
