AUsername
I dont believe gta 4 sucked, but SA haters are making unfair comparisons between the two games since most if not all of their points are technical issues, so going by these arguments, all classical games suck. Personnally I judge games by the effect they made on me, and compared to other games back then san andreas was pretty revolutionary. It was the first game I played which allowed me to do many many stuff for the first time and thats why i loved it.It has nothing to do with nostalgia as this is not based on good memories but facts. I was amazed by that game and I remember how I was telling all my friends about it. GTA 4 improved the basic mechanics (graphics, driving, physics, etc) which is something taken for granted and totally expected from gta and every other game as technology improves and as time goes on.And given that many games have the same to offer and that this genre has been present for years, gta 4 had nothing new or revolutionary to offer(like gta 3 did). This again doesnt make the game suck but doesnt make it any special either. Thats why im super excited about gta 5, because its gonna be another revolutionary step for the gta series and maybe even the entire industry. oRRe13
What's funny about your argument is that you're actually defending GTA IV's flaws without realizing it. Not really. I just didn't go into detail about the flaws. If you mean the story was the downside of the game compared to the other's I think most would disagree. Reason I didn't like IV was because there is only so much messing around an empty city making my own game before it gets stale. Especially after San An offered so much The graphics were atrocious. even for back then (I get there are reasons for that but it doesn't change the fact) it had this horrible haze effect and washed out look going on. You had people phoning you up every 2 minutes to go bowling The only thing it had going for outside the story was the driving mechanics and rag doll. You can't be f*cking serious. Your arguments holds absolutly no ground in reality. I really hope you're trolling, because if not, you're f*cking crazy!

the nameless
Oh look. Another 12 year old SA fanboy/wannabe gangster. It would actually be interesting to know the age of these IV haters. Their first GTA was probably San Andreas. I hate IV. I am 31, my first GTA was GTA1. I may not have at first, but towards the end, and trying to replay, I realised I do hate it. I really do feel the only improvement in IV was the graphics. Everything else is opinion based, and can never be declared as anything other than that. Such as: I have always said that the physics went from the overly "loose" end of the scale to the far too "stiff" end of the scale. Neither were good, but I prefer loose to stiff, just like oversteer vs understeer. - My opinion, others will prefer stiffer physics/controls. Characters were far better in San An than IV. I only liked Brucie, Packie, Jacob and at times Roman from IV. In San An, I loved so many of the characters, including the antagonists. Tenpenny, Pulaski, Smoke, Catalina, Truth, Wuzi, Torino, Cesar, CJ, Kent, Macca, Rosenberg etc. All were amazing characters. My opinion, others will prefer IV's characters. I prefer the light hearted, comical, over the top style of San An to the cold, depressing, serious style of IV. Again, my opinion. That one will always be a 50/50. Gay Tony was the best thing about the IV series, and better than the whole of IV and TLaD put together. And again, this is just because I prefered the style and vibrance of BoGT, I know some will have prefered the gritty coldness of IV or TLaD. simonp92
A 13 year old version of myself would have picked SA over IV anyday, but as I matured so did GTA. That's why IV, for me, is the best GTA game to date. Narrative is more important to me than out of place features. GTA IV is quality, whereas SA is quantity. That's why IV, for me, is the best GTA game to date. Narrative is more important to me than out of place features. GTA IV is quality, whereas SA is quantity. For its time, I actually found GTA SA's features to be quite polished and functional. So, it has quality. However, I do love both games. I can see where you going with that statement though. redx165
This is my opinion of GTA IV to the rest: Did it suck? Yes it did, I played and beat the whole story twice so I think I know what I'm saying. Story - Good itself but had the most repetitive missions I've seen in a GTA game. Go here and shoot him/her or go here and drive me. Ok is there anything DIFFERENT? Completing the story - After finishing the story I was left thinking what to do next in this huge city. Can anyone guess what I could think of? I could think of nothing cause there was sh*t to do Gameplay - Just like I said about there is sh*t to do in this huge city Rockstar made for us. GTA SA had so much to do and also wasn't trapped to one city. Characters - My least favorite out of all GTA games besides for TBOGT. They were so boring and annoying. Driving - I prefer my Cartoon physics driving over the boat like driving of GTA IV Guns - All the guns to me felt the same. I was also annoyed they added a limit to Assault Rifles. Who the hell is going to use over 1000 bullets of a pistol? Feeling/Theme - Sure its good for the story but for the Open World aspect of the game its one of the WORST I've seen. I want some color. The only thing GTA did right was: - Graphics ( Which I don't give a sh*t about if the gameplay is lacking ) - Physics - Cover System - New wanted level system GTA is a open world game not a story game. I'm glad they realize that with GTA V.
meson1
My theory about the lack of things to do in IV is that they thought they could get away with not having as many side activities because they thought that the multiplayer would make up for it. Of course, they were wrong.
Paper Mario
It all comes down to opinions. I like both SA and IV. But because SA has no ragdoll/euphoria physics I sometimes can't play it. And because IV has no countryside/nature I sometimes prefer playing SA. V has both!

dewan2000
GTA SA was great harmless fun, but still everything you are saying OP is just your opinion. With GTA 4, the series grew up. Tried to offer a more serious story.
Juzt
I used to love that game, and I still do. It's a good game, but this fanboyism is what would make any fan on SA like me say f*ck that game. You sound like an idiot tbph. No game is without it's flaws including San An. Just because someone has an opinion doesn't mean they are a fan boy. a fan boy is a fag who defends blindly. I merely stated my opinion, not once have I forced my views on anyone or insulted anyone who doesn't agree with my take....like a fanboy? *looks around thread* spots quite a few. grow up guyzzzz

AJayG
san andreas was my fav GTA I also think vice city was better than gta4 but that doesn't mean it was bad I still enjoyed playing through the game a few times I think if TLAD was the main game and nikos story was an add on it would have been so much better imo of course. CRRPGMykael
The reason IV was set in Liberty City was because before that they made games set in Vice City and San Andreas, is that too simple an explanation to believe? They're going back to San Andreas because it has only been done once before and they were all done with LC and well, Vice City Stories was a thing too. So far, I consider GTA: San Andreas the best GTA because it's just a near perfect experience, but A LOT of GTA fans prefer GTA: Vice City. Also, wtf is "GOAT"? Game Of A...something? Grand Theft Savage
Whatever homie. I enjoyed the hell out of IV and just finished playing it not too long ago. If you enjoy San Andreas, that's fine. Can't speak for everyone else, but I don't give a f*ck. IMO it isn't even fair to compare them.

DJ Arrt
I like to think of this discussion as Pac is GOAT or the east coast/west coast beef. Many people think that the west coast was the best, the only great rapper they really had was Pac, and people tend to sleep on the east coast, many appreciate the little things, like other rappers like Biggie, Wu-Tang, Nas, Pun etc. It's mostly about legacy and preference, in my opinion. I love the east coast BTW
