GTA V, will it have a huge impact on the industry?

As far as the GOTY argument goes. I have a legitimate question, since when does only story matter? Is gameplay not a factor anymore? TLoU might have an amazing story, but GTA V might have the better gameplay. I have yet to play either, but just wanted to throw that out there. Food for thought.

OT: It's hard to say that at this point. We'll have to see what GTA V brings to the table and what we can take away from it. Though I'm sure many developers will be following the game's development. Hell, Hideo Kojima is already doing it.

There were some amazing games this year but nothing beats V.Not because of the story but because of the amount of fun hours you get for your money.

Last of Us may have an amazing story but what is 12-15 hours compared to hundreds of hours in GTA?

Bioshock Infinite was also amazing but as I say nothing beats V when it comes to fun factor and replay value.

I'd be shocked if V doesn't win GOTY award.

As I see it the only serious competition is BF4.

TLoU is way far better in story and chapters. Yes TLoU average is 18 hours, but GTA missions are not good as TLoU, most missions will be repated. TLoU is on a higer level than BF4. Not shocked to see GTA V lose goty. TLoU replay value is better than GTA V, because missions are not repated. You can be a fanboy, but not the level to ride..

1. Is that a fact? Rockstar themselves said that the game will have tons of variety in missions.

2. Are you high? even with the game not out yet, i can say with utmost confidence that V will have way more replay value than any game coming out this year, i guaran-f*cking-tee you that.

Biased opinion.. The gameplay of missions in all GTA games i witnessed was like 100 missions, 6 big missions, i don"t feel what is excatly my goal. GTA is known for it"s Free Roam fun, but no way a story or a mission pillar in 2013. When i first played GTA IV story i got completely lost, all the missions were drive Lil jacob to his house, i want to make a deal watch over it with a sniper, when i finish the mission they call me, hey i have a friend who wants jobs done call him, i will give you his number etc... Nothing special in the story gameplay. Look at TLoU, all the missions are big... It had a goal, not just to get paid, f*ck women. Sorry but GTA V dick riders ruined the gaming industry. We know it"s a great game, but it"s not perfect, it missd 1 special thing!! The perfect story. Sorry for the grammar it"s because i am not near my PC i am using an Ipad, that"s why i did not focus on my grammar, because it"s hard to type in an ipad.

I didn't say that the previous GTAs had missions variety, the most variety seen in a GTA is in San Andreas.

GTA V V is the one with tons of mission varieties. The Last of Us had more mission varieties than the previous GTAs yes, but V? let's wait and see shall we?

Who the f*ck said about V being perfect? and for your information, The Last of Us is my second favorite game of all time. What is the first you ask? It's not Grand Theft Auto and let's leave it at that.

Triple Vacuum Seal

V won't be revolutionary. It will simply pick up where IV left off. But it will remind people of GTA's greatness and what R* has set out to do with this series. Too many people forgot because R* took too damned long to make the game. This reintroduction effect may give V the illusion of being a "game-changer". It will be convenient for the journalists and magazines to report it as such.

Will it have a huge impact on the industry? Financially speaking, yes. More GTA clones will arise after publishers get baited in by the money. And of course it will win the GOTY. That's a no-brainer.

So many hard dicks for V in this thread. It's almost unbearable. We haven't played it yet, for all we know it's terrible.

You do realise you're on GTAforums.com right?

Bias is a bad thing, no matter where you are. It clouds judgement. Just because we are on a website devoted to GTA, doesn't mean we need to devote all our love to it solely. People need to form their own rational opinions not based on bias.

I personally base my opinion of GTA V solely on what I know about the game. I've heard just a few small things that disappoint me and some things that I'm iffy about, but the vast majority of what I've heard and seen about it makes me a happy camper. I've also liked all of R*'s games I've played up to this point; even though they've all been flawed, some very much so, I've never found any of them to be terrible, personally.

I'm also in a position as a person who greatly enjoyed both GTA IV and GTA: SA, so whatever direction GTA V chooses to go into, I'm going to enjoy it. And it seems to be taking a middle ground, which I like even more. So ultimately, R* would have to f*ck up in ways they've never f*cked up before to make GTA V suck. Maybe it won't be as mindblowing as we all like to think it will be, but it's going to be a great, fun game that most of us will play for years. That's not an assumption, really, but you could say it's like an educated guess. However, I can see someone who hated GTA IV being a little more skeptical about the game. It just depends.

On Topic: R* games do tend to have a bit of an impact on the industry, but the amount is arguable. Did GTA III revolutionize the open world game, or did other developers afterward have the same idea because it's just a logical progression? Either way, I do think a lot of developers working on an open world game, especially if it's in a modern urban setting, occasionally think back to GTA, and how GTA did things, either to consider how to do something right, or how to do it differently to set itself apart.

GTA is a pretty respected brand in the industry. Not everyone loves it, but everyone is aware of the technical achievement in each game. Widely respected developers like Hideo Kojima will even compare his accomplishments to GTA and say they don't quite stack up, but his fans probably prefer his games over R*'s. It's just modesty, really, but it shows that other developers do think about how their series compares to GTA in terms of popularity & recognition, ambition, and achievement. So what GTA does, influences the industry at least to some extent.

And because of what GTA V appears to be trying to achieve with the multiple protagonists, I can see multiple protagonists and party-based games becoming more common in the industry, if it succeeds. Part of the reason is just due to how the videogame industry is becoming more and more like the film studio system, where is something is popular then everything else tries to copy that success. GTA does sometime lead in that regard because it's extremely popular and occasionally takes risks that pay off because of how successful the series is in general. I would argue that R* is among the industry leaders due to this.

The Last of Us is incredible in many aspects, gameplay, voice acting, graphics, story, animations, etc.

TLoU is not just proclaimed GOTY ONLY for its story you know...

In order to get a GOTY, the game must be amazing in all aspects. So, if GTA V had for example, the worst gameplay ever - but 10/10 in the rest, it will get like an 8.

Can't say I agree there. I can't think of any other game where you control three protagonists, can switch to them at anytime and when you are not controlling them they go about there day to day lifes. That in itself is revolutionary. I see quite a few game developers using this in there games assuming it's as good as it sounds/seems.

Was Vice City and San Andreas revolutionary? they were more like an evolution of III.

IV was revolutionary, it started everything from the ground up. So, V will be a big ass evolution to IV. because the gameplay and stuff continues mostly from IV.

I haven't played the game so I wouldn't know, not trying to demerit it. Many considered The Walking Dead game GOTY for its great story, despite the fact the game had little to offer in terms of gameplay. Some argued Far Cry 3 was rightfully GOTY since it offered an interesting story of its own and great gameplay as well. But in the end, that's all debatable.

I'll actually have to agree here. Maybe my metrics for revolutionary are a bit lofty. Even assuming this feature plays out fluidly, I had doubts that it would translate to the game itself being revolutionary. But come to think of it this still is R* we are talking about.

If V is revolutionary, I think it will be in the realm of multiplayer. I'm not a big fan of playing online; but IV was on to something. IV was only a trial run too. The biggest weakness of the GTA series is the fact that it isn't guest-friendly for when friends are over. COD is an example of how successful a game can be despite being sh*tty just from addressing this issue. Of course there is the old pass when you die procedure, but that gets stale for some folks. V can be amazing with a proper multiplayer experience.

@GOTY skeptics...

Despite the numerous 10/10 ratings for TLoU, V will win and get 10/10s as well. This TLoU acclaim comes at a time when the gaming industry is plagued with a greedy, quality-skimping, and DLC-heavy culture. It doesn't take much excitement for a game to get into the 7-9 ratings nowadays. Really anything moving in the right direction gets rewarded by critics. TLoU exceed these expectations of course. But, keep in mind that some reviews still rated IV - one of the most disappointing GTAs of all time by fanboy standards - higher than TLoU. Even if it comes close, TLoU will be hurt by the fact that the game doesn't extend its experience to the Xbox 360 gaming base (more than half of all console gamers). V will be on both consoles.

COD ghost is revolutionary because it's new engine and fps .

my gamerztag - xzxxqUick3sc00p3dxzxx

Pz3 - ywyOwn3dMUCHfaGzywy

all hail da king CAll OF DOOOODY

Are you kidding me right? COD Ghost looks like a upgrade version of MW3 engine.

BF4 is more of a revolution then COD.

60FPS, 1080p, 64 player lobbies.

I bet COD still has its free p2p servers with 12 player online.

read his post over and over again until you understand satire.

unless you had the ingenious idea of being sarcastic as well.

I read some of his posts and all he talks about is COD.

You do know its hard to tell if its sarcasm right? The internet is not friendly too it.

no, it's not hard to tell if someone is being sarcastic if it's that blatantly obvious. i mean, cmon dude.

Like I said before, trying to make sarcasm on the internet doesn't work.

it was painfully obvious when I saw it. maybe you're just a tad slow.
