brian.
Michael is the protagonist that made it. He starts the game with money, and lots of it. You've got to play his missions to be able to unlock and play as Franklin or Trevor, and work through all three to bring them together, and so on. Trevor and Franklin probably have some money, but not like Michael. Michael starts out big time. And it's Michael who funds the heists. I believe that Michael is the patron saint to his brother in crime and to the "son he always wanted" in Trevor and Franklin, respectively. Say Michael spends 1 million dollars on a heist and all the needed things for it, and nets like 2 million dollars for 4 people - Three protagonists and one helper, 500 thousand each. In this case, Michael has lost 500 thousand dollars - or has he? His two loved ones, his friends - they gain 500 thousand. He traded 500 thousand for them each to split a mil - not bad, in the sense that they also served his need to get back in there and pull some notable heists. This line of thought ties in with the stock market aspect, right? So what I think is that there is more to Michael than feeding his need for a thrill in what he does best - I think he really wants to help his friends, and to have fun while he's at it. With Michael, it'll be all about putting opportunities for bigger money into Trevor and Franklin - if you want them to be "really" rich, it's probably with Michael - you gotta make sure Michael doesn't go broke - in the gamble in the stocks, and the gamble of heists, how much it pays off. Want to get the wheels turning in your minds for the possibility - This GTA may still be about getting money (for trevor and franklin, who will somewhat need michael at least for a while), but it seems more and more evident to me that it will also be about maintaining it and not going broke, mostly so with Michael, perhaps even extremely so with michael. What do you guys and gals think?

Tobias_Rieper
Well that would actually give money meaning for once. Sounds fun, could become tedious though. I'd hate to feel like I'm meant to go around robbing everything in sight, just because we're splitting our personal funds you know?
NeilFallonsBeard
Who says Michael is the one paying for all the expenses? What if each character pays for the equipment they need and that's it?
brian.
I don't have the source, maybe someone will remember where I heard basically "Michael is the brains and he is the funds for getting the heists set up" something to that effect, if I'm wrong than I am, not sure. I have heard that he is the brains (at least to an extent, there was that older man who in the gameplay trailer who seemed to be leading one of their heist) but never heard of him being the funds. I don't see why he would spend large amounts of money at a total loss for any reason. Just doesn't make sense.

Celr0809
I couldn't see spending 1 million for a heist, maybe 50-100 grand.
