rayman617
I have a 6 year old Philips HDTV that has definitely stood the test of time. It can display in 720p and 1080i nicely but not 1080p. I have noticed though that the quality of the picture is not as good as some of the more modern HDTV's. I want the absolute best experience with GTA V so would it be worth it to upgrade? What brand/model do you recommend?
lazloisdavrock
What size is the TV you have now? you wont see a picture quality increase with console graphics going to progressive resolution, but going up in TV size is always a nice idea. Its best to keep your resolution set at 720p anyway, since thats what consoles render at
rayman617
It's 32 inches.

r0eladn
What ive heard: Best for games is a plasma TV. (so no LED etc) Best plasma tv's are panasonic. And i'd say 42" or more.

rayman617
Since 2007 have games somehow increased the fidelity of their display? Will a new HDTV show this increase? Does GTA V support 1080p and does that matter since X360/PS3 outputs 720p natively?
jumper2011
What ive heard: Best for games is a plasma TV. (so no LED etc) Best plasma tv's are panasonic. And i'd say 42" or more. Not true. I have a 3D TV from phillips and its awesome for gaming. Plasma sucks.
Hodgey.
It's 32 inches. 32 is great, but 40" is a nice sweet spot! I got a 40" and i would say thats its the right size, anything bigger just doesnt looke right if you ask me, so if i was you id go for a 40". That being said, 32" is pretty small unless you're sitting like five feet away. I'd get a new TV just to go up in size.
Carlover325
I used to have a 1080i that was 32". One problem I had with it while playing GTA IV was that certain things were nearly impossible to read (such as the buttons on the in-game cell phone). Once I upgraded, I have no more problems. I have an Insignia 42" 1080p 120hz LCD TV. Insignia is Best Buy's house brand, which is supposedly built by LG. I am very happy with mine so far, it has excellent picture quality. Best part was it was less than $500.
GrlGmr
One thing people making size recommendations are forgetting... The ideal size for an HDTV is determined by how far away you sit. The bigger the screen, the further away you have to sit. An 80" screen is going to look like crap if you sit too close. The problem with large screens is their ideal viewing distance might be longer than your available space. cnet has a nice guide on how to pick the right sized TV: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7-57468...v-should-i-buy/
brickhead119
If you want to upgrade that is your choice. Technology in HD has not improved much in the past few years. Size is a big factor if you want to upgrade but other than that you should not really worry. The only difference between 1080p and 1080i is how they load the scene. P stands for Progressive I stands for Interlaced They both load a scene within a second and the number is the amount of lines on your tv screen. Each line has a number of pixels which all change or stay the same depending on the scene that comes next. Progressive loads all 1080 lines in 1 second Interlaced loads half of the lines in a half of a second and the other half in another half second. So both of them load the scene at the same time. And both look the same. Just a small lesson for Frame resolution.

GTAV92
I have a 40" 1080p Full HD TV and a 32" 1080p Full HD TV To be honest i prefer playing on my 32" TV - it's a lot more crisp and has a better contrast Also depends on how big your room is too
brickhead119
Oh and Plasma is not even close to good for anything. Plasma is an older more obsolete technology and is actually one of the worst TV's to have for gaming. LCD TV's are one of the best TV's to have for gaming. LennonNL
What ive heard: Best for games is a plasma TV. (so no LED etc) Best plasma tv's are panasonic. And i'd say 42" or more. Really? I've heard that plasma's are the worst because they have awful image burn in, which will be a problem with the still image of the HUD on gaming. Unless you're trolling, you don't know what you're on about! Just get a 40" LED or whatever OP, no one here really cares. A tele is a tele
lazloisdavrock
you only need 720p.... consoles cant render games above 720p

A tele is a tele lol, after reading some replies it looks like i was told bullsh*t. Now i didnt research very well but just asked some guy in a TV store. Could haver known it too, because by just looking and comparing plasma and LED i would go for the LED. Pretty good news for me actually, i prefer the new Samsung and LG tv's over the panasonics that i saw.

If you have a 1080p tv and put it on 720 then you will encounter latency issues
GrlGmr
id say LCD, plasma has a nasty reflection glare Glare is more a factor of the surface finish. You can have plasmas with few reflections, and LCDs with nasty glare.

rayman617
This is why I want to upgrade - I was playing a Wii U demo kiosk at Target and noticed that the picture quality on that TV was quite a bit superior to my 6 year old philips. If you look really closely at my tv you can see these vertical lines that go through something like the night sky in GTA IV.
