d3ex2
I'd disconnect my console from the internet for the first few days to be safe. Won't be a problem for me. I don't plan on playing MP. Also, I only turn on my internet for certain games. Not that I'll be getting the game early. I'm buying from Amazon and not the store which OP speaks of. Subprime
What's this for? If i had somewhere i could cop mine at a few days early i would be grateful at the result, I wouldn't go on to list their seemingly somewhat questionable business practices publicly risking any future benefits i might receive. I imagine smaller companies doing this to keep the "lights on" when competing against the larger organisations with their increased buying power/special offers. Saliva
Are they in direct contact with R*? I'd guess not. I assume there is another supplier who distributes to smaller game stores.
WelcomePaladin2
another quick point folks. i see people saying that you should disconnect internet to avoid being banned. what about when u earn trophies/achievements and sign in on the17th. i know trophys save the day you collected them? could this warrant a ban
TreTheTruth
It's not illegal. They might get fined. Depends on the company. But, if you can get it early...why not?
r0eladn
Ive sent an email to mouthoff asking if you can get banned when playing the game early. Couldnt find a reason why i wouldnt ask that so..
XxPhillies26xX
I'm not too surprised that you are receiving a copy early. It happens all the time with games and of course R* understands the repercussions of releasing a big franchise like GTA. I am sure R* and Take2 will try everything to make sure a lot of information and gameplay videos won't get leaked before the release date.

d3ex2
dat join date... Irrelevant. I know the store OP speaks of. Purchased games out of it for the last 13+ years. They do sell games early. Could be a day early or months early. Basically as soon as they can get a hold of a game they will sell you it even if it means importing it. I remember getting all my Pokemon games from them about 6 months before they came out here in the UK. More recently they sold The Last of Us a few days before release. They have been around for well over a decade and it's pretty well known they do this. Nothing has stopped them yet.
jumper2011
a friend of mine got gta iv a few days early and stupidly played it while connected to xbox live. his profile got banned for 5000 years lol. if you do get the game early unplug those ethernet cables and disable your wireless connections. just a friendly warning he got banned because he played a pirated Copy.... I got Halo 4 a week early and it was fine to play.
motorider420
As those from Scotland will testify, there is a shop called g-force which is notorious for selling games early. Me and my friend per-ordered gta v from there today and were told to collect our copy on Saturday 14th September Is this not illegal? I was surprised because I thought rocks tar wouldn't have sent their product to shops with this reputation. We all know R* want to limit the possible leaks of this game so do you think they will risk losing sales and not sent gta to these kind of shops? Or do they know a leak is inevitable so won't really mind? I got the GTAIV pc version straight off the delivery truck, a whole 4 hours early. When I tried to play it on my PC, it locked me out until morning. If a game is set to release on a certain date, then be a man and go to the release party, then race home and play that sh*t. Getting a game early is just... cheating.

Any achievements would display as gotten before the release date as well.
PHOENIXZERO
No one is going to be banned for playing a legitimate copy of the game on non-modded hardware before release, period.
d3ex2
No one is going to be banned for playing a legitimate copy of the game on non-modded hardware before release, period. I agree. I don't think it's the customers fault! The blame lies with the seller as they are the ones who break the release date and any agreement with the publisher. So, if some random person goes into a shop with no clue about release dates, browses around, sees a game for sale then buys it, they should be banned? That's not right.
