Tyg0903
There are days when I feel like I work in the marketing department for Rockstar. I can not tell you how many people I work with and am friends with that have no clue this game is even coming out. And a lot of these people are so called gamers who play and talk about call of duty regularly. I know we all here are fully engaged in this game and it coming out but to be honest I have not seen a rise in interest or even knowledge of this game out there. My question to everyone out there is has anyone seen a rise in interest or knowledge of GTAV either in the workplace, school, family or friends. I have not and have a very large circle of those people. And am I the only one who gets absolutely flabbergasted at the fact that people out there who call themselves gamers don't know or show little interest in what many are considering to be a groundbreaking achievement in gaming that is only 39 days away. I am tired of marketing this game. On the other hand my brother who could care less when I used to talk about GTAV saw the gameplay video on youtube and cant stop talking about it and how he preordered and tries to tell me about details Ive known for months. So maybe there marketing is working on some level. WHAT IS YALLS EXPERIENCE IN REGARDS TO THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU AND THE HYPE YOU SEE OUTSIDE THIS FORUM. Toshio_maxoS
And a lot of these people are so called gamers who play and talk about call of duty regularly. People they call them self gamers if they only play CoD and only talk about CoD aren't real gamers. Don't worry, they're nothing. Real gamers know what GTA is, or even a Nitendo 64. Tyg0903
sh*t I dust off the Neo Geo and 3DO every once in a while. What is going to irritate me is all the people who come out of the wood work after the game comes out and they hear how great it is and pick it up and are going to want to tell you how awesome it is. I will definitely want to choke a person or two as they don't understand the obsessive frustration that checking this forum every hour knowing your going to see nothing new. Its like checking the fridge over and over knowing theres no new food in there. Yeah I dare a release day fan to try to sell me on this game. HA Even though we all get irritated at eachother on this forum we are the real deservers of this game. I sometimes wish I was one of those who didn't even know the game was coming out and could just stumble upon it after its out. Would have saved me thousands of hours spent here. NeilFallonsBeard
Who cares if the person isn't as obsessive over the game as you? As long as they play the game and enjoy it, and Rockstar make loads of money, I could care less how fanatical they are about the game.

No I think you got me wrong I don't really care what people care about. The point I was trying to make is that Iknow a lot of people who play video games and have no clue about GTAV. So my point was about the marketing reach and just wanted to hear others stories about how they have spread the word about the game. That's it. saintsrow
Several months ago when the GTAV pre-order viewers and poster came out, a group of us co-workers went out to lunch. There happened to be a GameStop next door. I said, I'll be right back, I gotta stop in here. After paying $5 to open a pre-order, I came back to the lunch group with the poster. People asked me what that was about. I told them it was a chance to get limited edition trinkets for GTAV. Everyone in the group knew about video games and most of them knew about the GTA series by reputation, knew that it was popular and / or controversial at some time in the distant past. The two gamers in the group (one Xbox 360, one PS3) also only knew about GTA as a product line, and had no clue that there was a new GTA being produced. The marketing at that time was zip nada nothing null nil absolutely zero. The general public and more particularly the general gaming demographic only have an abstract, half-conscious awareness of GTAV. The gradual appearance of GTAV displays in mainstream venues is subliminal for them - they see it and it goes into their thoughts unconsciously, in the same part of their brain as posters for perfume ads and new Android tablets or digital cameras. Ho hum. Only people like us, who are really looking for GTAV displays, actually register them consciously and evaluate the effectiveness of their presence. The rest of the world is still waiting for GTAV marketing.

People need to stop pretending GTA V is only know by the "hardcore gamers". Grand Theft Auto is one of the largest video games series ever and GTA V is one of the most anticipated games of this console generation.

The rest of the world is still waiting for GTAV marketing. You make some very good points. I know it has been talked about a lot but having taken multiple marketing classes in college I am a bit surprised by the marketing strategy or lack there of so far. I do understand that a game like GTA sells itself and that word of mouth will be effective sellers. However oen of the main goal in any marketing strategy for any product is opening up to previously un reached demographics and market audiences. We do not need to be sold. With an investment of 127 + million dollars I would think that Rockstar would be mmore aggressive in their approach to reach the demographics that don't commonly buy their product. I am sure they have invested in target marketing research and they know who they don't sell well with I just haven't seen any attempt in any media of them trying to attract new customers. They will still set sales records and make hundreds of millions of dollars, I just cant help but imagine what they could achieve in terms of sales with a more aggressive diverse marketing strategy. A billion in sales? Ya never know. I am sure it is also difficult for Rockstar to buy air time on certain networks that simply wont do business with them due to the negative attention past GTA'S have received. I guess we will see what the final tally is.

You are right I just try to compare it to things that are on par with GTAV. Any movie with a budget of 130 million dollars is mass marketed and you can ask a group of people you know if they have heard about said movie and most will say yes. I am speaking from my experience with people I work with who are a very diverse group and friends and family and literally one or two out of hundreds even knew what I was talking about and I work in Philadelphia so if the word is not wide spread here I am guessing the same is reflective elsewhere. The game will sell tons I just don't understand how something this big can be known about so little. It is easy for us here on the website to get wrapped up in the idea that there is a buzz out there for this game that is wide spread. I just don't see it. Just my opinion. If you see the buzz out there awesome. P.S. I do work with about75 people and the average age is in their 30's so that may be why I don't see the interest. I was under the impression that people my age who started with Atari are the bulk of the gaming world sadly the more I talk to people I am starting to think that it is more of a teen and 20's industry. We were the original gamers and I guess some just gre out of it. Edited August 9, 2013 by Tyg0903
gamefarter
I made one of my co-workers watch the gameplay trailer, and he said something along the lines of "its like a bunch of different games in one, im gonna get that". But it doesnt stop there, i told him yesterday theres only 39 more days to go, and told him today he should be sure to get it so we can online together. I think i sold at least 1 more copy for rockstar than the one i will get.
oblivionskate
I told my friends about GTA V back in 2011. I also told my friends how long i've been following the game and about you guys but I don't think they really understand our little "community" if that's what you want to call it and all we've been through, and all we know. I can try to explain but its a "you had to be there" thing

I will admit as I have gotten older I game much less and only buy a game or two a year. I also don't drink as much as a lot of my 30s friends as I use gaming as a get away from the stress of kids work and everything else that comes with being "old" You are probably right though. Maybe I am just searching for people out there my age who are also on board with GTAV so I can feel a little less like aloser for caring so much about a video game.
